Ex-NBA Star Hardaway: "I Hate Gay People"

Isaiah Washington has a new point-man on Team Gay-Bashers.
Tim hates gays: listen to audio
Former NBA star Tim Hardaway is catching fire today after he went on a gay-hating tirade yesterday afternoon on the radio. "I hate gay people, so I let it be known," said Hardaway. "I don't like gay people and I don't like to be around gay people. I am homophobic ... [Gay people] shouldn't be in the world or in the United States."

Hardaway spewed his venom on Miami's Sports Talk 790 The Ticket in response from a question from host Dan Le Batard about John Amaechi, the retired NBA player who has revealed in a new book that he's gay. NBA commissioner David Stern removed Hardaway from league-related appearances during this weekend's All-Star festivities in Las Vegas. Hardaway subsequently apologized, but not for his actual sentiments: "I shouldn't have said I hate gay people or anything like that. That was my mistake."

Amaechi responded last night to Hardaway's comments: "It is ridiculous, absurd, petty, bigoted and shows a lack of empathy that is gargantuan and unfathomable. But it is honest."

62. HE HAS A RIGHT TO SAY WHAT HE WANTS. I DON'T LIKE GAY PEOPLE EITHER. IT GOES AGAINST THE NATURAL ORDER OF THINGS. JUST THINKING ABOUT TWO GUYS TOGETHER MAKES MY STOMACH TURN. IT IS IN THE BIBLE THAT THESE PEOPLE WILL NOT INHERIT THE KINGDOM OF HEAVEN. IF HE DOESN'T LIKE THEM AND DOESN'T WANT TO BE AROUND THEM, THAT'S HIS BUSINESS.

66. What's the matter Markey? Did I hit a nerve? I don't recall him using derogatory slurs. I never said anything about calling other people hateful names. How are you any better calling me a stupid bitch? When did you become the expert on who is more bigoted, blacks or whites? You're an idiot. You don't know squat and it shows.

67. Funny how people are saying it's his right to say what he wants but when Michael Richards used the N word everyone wanted to boycott him! You posters are such hypocrites you don't even know. Morons.

68. Hardaway's opinion is just that-HIS OPINION. However ignorant he may sound he has the right to voice what he thinks. I am extremely disappointed to hear that kind of hate spew from his mouth especially by him being an African-American man in the United States and saying it about another African-American man. He fails to realize that there are MILLIONS of people who feel the same way about people of African descent and because it is no longer politically correct to openly say it, it is becoming more uncommon. This does not stop people from thinking it. We all know that hate stems from things we FEAR or fail to understand especially RACISM and homophobia. Most white people have no reason to hate us (African-Americans). They do however out fear or even ENVY. Considering all the events in history every “non-white” culture in the world should hate white people-but we don’t. Homophobes hate gay people because they don’t know what to make of homosexuality or they fear it because they see/sense/feel it within themselves. Think about it, unless something affects you, you rarely put energy into thinking about it. Obviously he is dealing with his own closeted homosexuality? Tolerance and Education is the only real answer to ignorance. I forgive the ignorant cowardly people who post statements on the internet. They are the sad people who waist energy in posting comments that they don’t have the balls to say a person like me to my face.

69. He is a closet homo. He is afraid of his own sexuality and that's why he lashes out at homos. He should just come out of closet already.

70. He has a right to express his ignorance and insecurities, er, opinion, alright ... but so do racists, misogynists, anti-Semites anti-Christians, anti-Muslims, and so on.

And THINKING people have a right to say, "Fuck you, dumb ass dick on a stick. Do you realize how many gay people watch your uneducated ass run around with a ball, being overpaid to act like an animal? And do you realize how many gay people and empathetic straight people can STOP paying to see your uneducated ass run around with a ball like an animal?"

Let freedom ring.

72. Being a minority himself you think he would have some compassion for the struggles other minoritys go through. Well you know the old saying "Ignorance is bliss.........................."

73. I hate ignorant people. Tim's comment was very ignorant and so is the comment made by the two uneducated fools about black people. You are entitled to your opinion, but if it is considered rude keep it to yoursef. People are people and did not ask to be what they are so the ignorant peope should just grow up and deal with it.

74. Read what the freedom of speech act says before you comment on it. It states something like as long as it doesn't impose on the rights of others. Obviously that comment imposes on the rights of homosexuals. It's not about political correctness, it's about not making others feel bad.
