Simon: "I'm Not Indulgent" -- Oh, Really?

On "American Idol" last night, Simon remarked how he "wasn't indulgent." What do you call driving around in a $150,000 car? Practical?

Talent judge Simon Cowell took girlfriend Terri Seymour out for a spin in a brand new Ferrari yesterday afternoon in Beverly Hills. On last night's "Idol," Simon called hopeful Nicole Tranquillo "self-indulgent," and Ryan Seacrest shot back, "That's the pot calling the kettle black."

"I'm not indulgent," sniffed Cowell, to the sneers of Randy and Paula. Results tonight.

32. Simon is not being mean. These are the "top 24" singers out of 200,000 entrants. That is .0001 (or .01%).

At their level, they need to hear absolute brute honesty. Many of those who Simon did not like will be back next week. If they want to win, then they need to take his criticism to heart. If you're going to tackle a song by a super-diva like Celine Dion, then you'd better be able to kick her ass in your performance of it. You are competing with Celine directly when you try and sing something so fresh in our collective memories. Same goes with tackling a Whitney Houston song. Americans know every note of her top songs. If you sing it "flat" then we'll all notice.

Take note that Simon was quite generous in his praise for those he felt had sung well. He is gracious when he needs to be and honest when he needs to be. Never rude. Simply honest.

33. What a nerve, for anyone to criticize Simon on how he spends his money. He works hard for his money. I guess people are jealous. As for those thinking he is too "hard" on some contestants: It seems to me,"if it's too hot for some, they ought to get out of the kitchen." I am not in show business, but it seems one must have "tough skin" and be able to have enough self confidence if one(such as Simon) seems critical towards them. A wonderful example of one who endured is Jennifer Hudson. She endured Simon's critisism(spelling) and look where she is today... I like Simon....

35. I love Simon! So what if he is not "flowery" with his words and gets right to the point. Most of the time is right on with his comments. I have to say my respect for him grew tremendously after watching "E"s editorial on him. It was very intresting.

It is funny when those trying out during auditons get angry and ask "What have you done". They should do there homework before trying out.

Simon is Simon, but I believe alot of the words between the judges and Ryan are done just to keep the show "entertaining".

Go Simeon, I love you!!

39. He's a jerk for telling the other 23 contestants that they could get on a plane now and the competition was pretty much over last night. But not for spending some of his money on a Ferrari. And Ryan Seacrest is a fag and a drama queen.

40. The song she was performing was not Celine Dion (another girl did sing a Celine song and was pretty awful, maybe that's why everyone is confused). I actually thought that Nicole's voice was amazing and that she handled Simon's critism really well.

41. I really dig Simon. He cuts through the "niceties" and says what needs to be said. I only wish he would stop wearing the tee-shirts. He would look so much better in a suit. He is at an age where the pecs look more like "man-boobs". Lose the tee-shirts!

42. The guy is mega rich and can afford it. Yes his comments can be harsh, but he is brutally honest that's just the way he is.

45. Simon is the reason the show is so popular. Without Simon the show would last more than one season. The man tells these people what they need to hear. Some people just suck, and he can't help that they do. And most of all he's a very sexy man.....makes me forget I'm a dyke!!!!!!!!!!!
