Anna Nicole -- Dissed in Death?

Anna Nicole SmithWith her killer resume packed with hit movies like "Naked Gun 33 1/3," "To the Limit" and of course, the cult classic "Wasabi Tuna," it was a complete shock when the late Anna Nicole Smith turned up missing from Oscar's annual morgue montage.

According to reps from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, a final version of the deceased reel is cut and approved by Febuary 1, and there's only room for about 25 people (last year, more than 130 bought tickets to the big movie theatre in the sky). But what if, god forbid, Tom Hanks or Steven Spielberg had kicked the bucket last week -- would they have made the clip reel?

Guess we'll have to tune in again next year to see if Anna makes the cut!

46. Who cares if they mentioned her or not. People are sick to death (no pun intended) about hearing about her death. They probably didn't want to take attention away from the show by mentioning her. She never went or was invited to the Oscars anyway.

47. #13 Bonnie (Stern?) You are an embarrassment to society!!
It would have taken the Academy 15 seconds to acknowledge Anna. I know she wasn't a "MOVIE STAR", but it would have been in extremely high taste for them to do so. I betcha she would have had a standing ovation. Not for her performances, but her love of Hollywood, the limelight, Marilyn, and her desire to be one of them. That is all she really wanted in life. TO BE ONE of THEM.

48. Anna did noithing her whole life but lie and use men for money and abuse drugs. She is lucky she is even getting this much attention in death.

49. How can anyone be surprised the Anna Nicole wasn't included in the montage of celebrities who have passed away. It is true that the cut-off is for people who have died by February 1st--but the people they show have either won an Oscar or they've contributed in some positive way to show-business--by mainly having talent. When you go over the things she did throughout her career--if you want to call it that---she didn't deserve to be included in the montage.

50. Well of course if Hanks or Spielberg kicked the bucket they would have been mentioned. They are both talented oscar winners who attend the show every year. Anna couldn't even tie her shoes without help from buttplug HKS.

51. They didn't include Chris Penn yesterday because they did so on the 2006 Oscars! Just Google it and see for yourselves. Same time they did Shelley Winters, Pat Morita, etc.

52. The girl had skills, but they didn't have anything to do with acting. More like self-promotion.

53. The memorials for the Oscars are for the year before - this year it was for the members who died in 2006 - ANS will be remembered in 2007 - when she passed away. I never noticed that she was included - I was shocked that Director Carlo Ponti (Sophia Loren's) husband was not mentioned and then remembered he passed away in 2007. They will not forget to mention her at the Oscars in 2008.

54. Much of the slop Hollywood puts out is overrated and not even acting. All its good for nowadays is remaking films and, now, those films' sequels.

Anna Nicole Smith (have Americans became THAT lazy that they can't even spell out her name??) was not an actress by any stretch of the imagination nor was she an "icon."

Let's keep the facts straight here and not get carried away.

55. ANS was not worth reflecting in such a tribute of people that had REAL impact on the medium. Naked Gun was a wide release, but her role was far less than major. THAT'S IT. Her other cinema work is too minor & worthless for such consideration. I WAS mildly surprised that C. Penn was not shown, but not having that pathetic, druggie super-whore Smith on the reel was appropriate. The show was bad enough-- without bringing it down more by heralding that trainwreck as a legitimate peer.

56. I thought the acadamy only showed people that died in 2006. Anna died in 2007 and should be in the clips for next year's show.

57. There is too much controvosy surrounding Anna Nicole Smith and the Academy is distancing itself.
She was famous for marrying an octogenarian, fleeing to the Bahahas avoiding whatever, drugs, a son predeceasing her and giving birth to her gorgeous daughter - I suppose the Academy didnt think that warranted a mention on Oscars night

58. Actually the deceased in the clip all died in 2006. Last year Don Knotts died after Jan 1st, and didn't appear in the montage until this year.

59. I believe the Academy Awards are for the calendar year of 2006. She died February 8th, 2007 -- and if she is to be included in the "In Memorian" tribute, it will be next year.

60. I'm thinking (hoping) you meant that as a joke, but I wonder how many of the lamenters who have posted, who agree she was left out, were actually sincere. I shudder at the thought.

I think the animal actors that have died in the past year deserves more of a mention than that wanna-be. The only thing sad about her passing is that she's getting so much press for it, even from legitimate news outlets like CNN. [shakes head] The world is coming to an end, my friends.
