The only place Jamiroquai can get a gig these days ... is at 30,000 feet!
The funk rockers entered the Guinness Book of World Records yesterday by playing a gig in a Boeing 757 -- while mid-flight from Munich to Athens! The band had to perform through some pretty rough turbulence, with lead singer Jay Kay holding on to overhead bins to keep his balance. The band's fans aboard the flight were ordered to remain seated with their seatbelts fastened, preventing dancing in the aisles.
Content with breaking a few bizarre records -- including Highest Gig in the World -- and then quickly descending to his pre-flight obscurity, Jay Kay also announced yesterday to The Daily Mirror -- he's quitting music altogether. Please return your trays to their original upright position.
Update: Jay Kay issued the following statement on Jamiroquai's official website: "As usual they [The Daily Mirror] got it wrong for a cheap headline! All I said was that we're taking a bit of time out to get the studio refurbished and we'll be back making music in a few months time. There's no way I'm quitting the music business."

(Page 1 of 1)Maybe Jamiroquai's fans will revisit the artist after a stellar American Idol perfomance last night....otherwise, I guess the sky's the limit......lol
Jamiroquai is one of those bands known the world over, except in America where we like "singers" like Lindsay Lohan and Britney Spears and virually anyone who ever performed on the Mickey Mouse Club.
Jamiroquai was big around the world. Get your facts straight TMZ. Jay Kay is far from obscure.
Didn't Randy just say on American Idol last night that Jamiroqui was really famous everywhere EXCEPT the United States? So why is he quitting music altogther if he's so famous?

Jamiroquai isn't quitting, this from their website:
"OK, so there is a story in todayâs Mirror implying Jay is quitting the music business: Needless to say theyâve got it completely wrong! You see, in a quick chat with one of the paperâs journalists following his record breaking Gig in the Sky yesterday, Jay mentioned he was taking time out to update his home studio and take some time off before the band go back in to start writing a new album later in the year. He also talked about working on new arrangements of songs so next time they go out on tour they have fresh take on the tracks they play live perhaps incorporating strings or horns. Perhaps they should listen next time! When they gonna learn? On seeing the way his chat was reported today in the Mirror Jay said âAs usual they got it wrong for a cheap headline! All I said was that weâre taking a bit of time out to get the studio refurbished and weâll be back making music in a few months time. Thereâs no way Iâm quitting the music business - now I am out of my long contract with SonyBMG we have so many options open to us weâre just going to take our time and get it right - its just getting interesting!â "
I hope you're right Tia. Jamiroquai is a talented group and it would be a shame to loss that kind of quality music. They should be more famous in the states.
First off...yea...get your facts straight TMZ. Just because (as mentioned) its not teen sluts/wannabe music artist Lindsay Lohan and Paris, OR SOME WACK ASS MTV "rappers" etc...doesn't mean they're not big. This band is respected ALL AROUND THE GLOBE! They have a HUGE following and can still pack venues. All in all, anyone who knows their music would definitly know these guys. Please....get a smarter staff! And this time make sure they're not some jaded ass mis-educated, teeny boppin' kids.
