Shop Like a "Top Model" ... at Goodwill?

America's Next Top ModelNow TV fans and homeless people everywhere can dress like "America's Next Top Model."

One would think that emulating "America's Next Top Model" would require clothes from chic designers like Gucci, Prada and Versace, but clothes seen on the show's most recent season premiere will be available for purchase at the House of Goodwill.

From March 1 - 5, fashionistas on a budget can purchase outfits and accessories from the series on Goodwill's Internet auction site, with proceeds going toward job training programs. There are twelve items up for a bid, all starting at under $50. Who knew looking like a cheap ho could do so much good?!

16. Yeah, thrift store chic!
TIP: You get the best deals at the non-profit ones like crisis centers, etc.
Goodwill and Sal. Army are overpriced.

17. I have found excellent things at thrift shops and rummage sales. I have purchased quality used clothing and household goods really cheap. Don't always strike gold, but but it is fun to look and as long as I don't tell, no one knows where it came from.

18. I hope all the money does go to people in need. Good will has been known to skim a little of the top just like the united way.

19. Hey Carrie! I bet you have never really been into a real thrift shop any way to know what it is that your even looking for. All of them take a little from the top to keep their organization running. (DUH!!!) The bigger organizations like Sal-Val, United Way, The American Red Cross will be taking a little more because...HHHMMM they are WAY BIGGER!!! The way I look at it team is that all the stores are great for everybody. They bring the needy in off the street out of the cold and help them get what they need at a very low almost free price. They also bring those of us in that may be on a budget an find really great deals. As a person that supports all my local thrift shops and the larger thrift shops as well, I try to take in something everytime I go in to buy. That way I am not only purchasing and giving them the money that they can use, I am also giving them something that someone else can use. AND cleaning out my closet!!! In the end we all win.

20. I've never felt the need to comment on anything on this site before, but the final line of this article rubbed me the wrong way. I don't shop at Goodwill, I never have, but to throw name calling at those who do seems quite tactless. With that said, it would reflect well on the respectability of this website to remove the final line of the article.

21. When I saw this article I felt like I had to leave a comment. Not only do I work for Goodwill Industries but I am in charge of our shopgoodwill.com department. A huge misconception about Goodwill is that we are here to cater to the poor and needy. In reality we cater to just about anyone. I personally have sold authenticated Louis Vuitton luggage, Tiffany vases, and some very valuable jewelry. Another shopgoodwill location recently sold an oil painting for over $150,000. I will admit, when I started working for Goodwill I had no idea what they were all about. I thought they were a second hand store..period. The truth is that all money generated from donations goes to the funding of training, teaching and helping those who may have trouble obtaining work get back into the workforce. This article does not really surprise me only because I see a lot of people having this basic misconception. But my suggestion to all media outlets is to do a little research before slamming an organization that is actually trying to do some good.

22. Hey idiots - they are saying that the clothing the models on the show wear make them look like cheap hos, NOT that people who shop at Goodwill look like cheap hos. Unless, of course, you buy the clothing that the models were wearing...then you'll look like a cheap ho.

Sheesh.

23. I went to that website and it is wonderful! Usually people with the quasi snob factor about shopping in a resale place are either new rich or rich wannabees. Just because you can buy anything you want doesn't mean you are a pushover for these tacky designers with over priced goods. If you are secure in who you are and are not out to try to impress other social climbers you shop everywhere. When you carry a Real Gucci bag and wear a Walmart white tank top who knows where the $6 shirt and the $5 bag comes from. Yes, I did see a handbag for that price. I carry real Chanel handbags and wear the basics from Walmart, Target and Resale places. It is a game to see if I can beat the system and get things cheap. Check it out!
