Why Won't Puck and Public Health Reveal Famous Hosts?

Composite of Wolfgang Puck and the county seal of Los AngelesWhy is everybody concerned about not revealing the hosts of the parties catered by Wolfgang Puck's catering company, which exposed hundreds of guests to the Hepatitis A virus? Wolfgang Puck's people wouldn't tell us, and the head of Public Health for Los Angeles County won't tell us, despite multiple chances to do so.

And so we're wondering: What is it about these hosts that makes Puck's company and the L. A. County Department of Public Health think that it's better to keep the hosts' identities secret than to get the word out as quickly and widely as possible, using the media to help prevent the spread of the virus?

An official from Public Health told TMZ earlier in the week that some of the hosts were "very high profile people." To that we say, so what?

Dr. Jonathan Fielding, MD, MPH, the Director of Public Health for LA County, tells TMZ, "I don't believe that broad notification is the best way to reach people. It is much better for the people who hosted these parties to contact their guests directly." But why, we ask?

Fielding says that yesterday, after TMZ put pressure on County officials, the Department gave hosts of these parties a letter, warning them of their exposure. He said that his staff would work with the hosts "today and Monday" to confirm that their guests would be notified, but could not guarantee that all would get the notice.

And again, when pressed, neither Dr. Fielding nor Puck's people could provide a specific legal rationale for not revealing the names of the hosts of these parties. Dr. Fielding cited "privacy concerns" and the fact that some of the parties were held in private homes.

31. I can see not releasing guest lists, but why can't they just say "Puck catered the following parties: [Location A] on 2/4/07", etc, etc? So, at least you'd know if you were at those locations that you might have been exposed? It definitely seems like Puck is being protected more than anything, which is ridiculous.

32. You guys are hysterical. It's so obvious what the deal is. Rich hollywood wife wants everyone to think SHE cooked the dinner. Didn't even pimp the "we're being catered by Puck" info. hahahahaha What's worse - to get Hep A or let everyone know you can't cook?

:-)

33. I totally agree with Justin. I could care less to know who was at the parties, but I think they should publish a list of the events that were catered so people know. I mean what if you were brought along by a friend and you didn't know the hosts. How are they going to contact you. I think everyone has a right to know they may be infected and it seems like they could be taking more steps to notify people. They don't have to publish a list of guests.

34. I am one of the people who attended a party he catered. He does not want to take any responsibility in this. It ticks me off - I am the one who went to get a shot in the butt after sitting in a nasty health department since the state I live in requires me to report it and get the shot there and lost a days pay. I went with my 2 best friends to celebrate our birthdays which was an unbelievable time that we were talking about and laughing about up until the night we got the phone call saying we had 10 hours to go get the shot so yes, I am pissed off that these people whether they are white, black, brown, yellow or pink can't take an extra minute to wash their freekin hands. It is nasty. These employers had better start stepping up and see to it that their employees start following simple hygiene requirements. So let me be the one to say, it is not just the "pretty people" that you assume were the only ones who attended an event - there were some regular people there as well - we like to think of ourselves just as pretty as them though!!!! Most were nicer than you would think. Wolfgang Puck owes me an apology, a days pay and a pillow to comfort my butt.
