Gay Slur Gets "Grey's" Goof an Image Award

Isaiah WashingtonIsaiah Washington won an acting award this weekend, and no, it wasn't for his half-assed apology for using the "f-word."

The loose-lipped "Grey's Anatomy" doc, who recently left gay-slur rehab, took home Best Actor in a Television Drama at the 38th Annual NAACP Image Awards. What an image, indeed!

With Isaiah receiving this questionable honor, perhaps there's hope that Michael Richards will get a GLAAD Award ... but don't count on it.

31. @Chad

You don't know what you're talking about the NAACP does nominate other races. The NAACP gave Bono an award. If you want to say the organization discriminates then what about the Oscars? They discriminated against other races for a long time. Do you think that it's right that Paris Hilton, Andy Dick, Michael Richards can get away with saying racial slurs? You probably do.

@Richard

I don't care that Ann Coulture was supposedly kidding...she still said it and that's wrong. Why is their a double standard? IW is wrong and she said it in fun so it's okay. Whatever.

32. "Faggot" is NO more a "racial" slur than "Pig", "Bimbo, "Chauvinist", or "Left-wing". It definitely IS a slur, but NOTHING even close to what's being alleged. Grow up and get a life.

33. Bang,
Your comment was extremely ignorant. Obviously, you have just been waiting for an opportunity to use a word that you probably use all the time. Isaiah Washington was wrong and he took responsibility for his mistake. However, it seems like the n-word is the new hip thing to say.

34. I agree with Lee. For a slur to be "racial", it must refer to a persons race. Coulter and Washington's slur refer to behavior so "Fa@#ot" is not a racial slur.

Actually, Coulter use of the word wasn't a slur. It was a satirical pun at the lunacy of someone going to rehab to cure the person from saying politically incorrect words.

35. Way to go NAACP, you have done more for the stagnation of a Race moving forward than any other Organization out there. You;re leaders are satisfied with the status quo as it keeps them employed...imagine if the Advancement of Colored People wasnt needed, than there would be no need for the NAACP leaders. So keeping things the way they are (terrible) works just fine for your leadership.

Uh, nice selection by the way on the award...what is it, a way to payback for Eddie Murphy not winning?

36. MANEA.!!!!!! POST # 1 hmmmmm lets see this wasnt a racial slur, it was a discriminatory remark/word/insult...big diffrence dumb ass......and your crap ass comments " at least such and such apologized bla bla freeking bla."..how much of an idiot does one have to be to realize...gee im an acotor on a set of a very well known show....they might hear or see me do something inappropriate here...DEE DEE DEE I get so sick of double standard crap...if this were a WHITE ACTOR THEY WOULD NEVER WORK AGAIN IN HOLLYWOOD...LET ALONE FINSIH A CONTRACT W/ A MAJOR NETWORK....So as I was saying your a dumb ass on many of your points.....god i love to live in america where i can tell people just how retarded they are and nothing better then a non informed ill educated person getting on here trying to sound reasonable and intelligent....

37. @ Chad

You don't know what you're talking about the NAACP gave Bono an award. They do recognize other races. But it is an award show that honors outstanding achievements by AA. The Oscars was just like that at one time.

@ Richard

Ann Coulture says the F word but it's okay cuz she was joking right??? But IW says it and because he is black it was totally different. So you don't think Ann Coulture is homophobic? Probably not cuz she is white???? Yeah okay....and you guys say we stick together.....that's funny. I saw the golden globes and IW said he did not call him a faggot in response to a question from one of the reporters. He never said he called him that...he was denying those reports that he did.

38. To all the racist bloggers on this blog...Shut the fuck up, get over the comment, and take the white sheet off your face!

39. Yes he did get the image and it was well deserve. I watch Gray's and his personal opinion does not effect the fact he is a good actor. Just like Andy Dick calling people a nigger. Not only am I gay and black so do I after him because he is ignorant. I am gay and I don't care for Rosie at all, should I agree with her because she is gay? No She is rude very rude. This people have their werid opinion and basically say what they want and we all smile in their face because they are in the limelight truth is all of them have issues and it would take someone like me to set them straight. Nut cases but Mr. Washington deserve his award because he was not given the award because he is a good person that make smart decision, but because he is a good actor on a hit show with excellent writers.

40. The award was for acting. Is Isaiah a good actor? Yes, he is. Is he a good person? Maybe. Maybe not. I've never met him. It does not matter whether he is or isn't. What matters is when it comes to this award is whether or not he can act.

Now, if Hollywood would hire more black actors, then they would have had more people to choose from when deciding who to nominate and who to give the award. And then, maybe, someone else would have won it.

45.
Isiah Washington is not a biggot and as a black woman I could not care less what Micheal Richards had to say. Many of us live ourlives regardlesswho others think The NAACP didthe right thing. I have followed his career and has watched him grow .He is married, employed, and totally devoted to his family. To many of us that counts for something. I am honored to be a fan who has a gay uncle.
