Celebrity Feuds
Nicole Richie's Man Strongarms Photog

Nicole Richie's boyfriend doubles as her personal bodyguard -- quick to get violent with anyone who stands in her way.

A heated Joel Madden bulldozed his way through a crowd of paparazzi as he and Nicole Richie tried to sneak out the back door of Mr. Chow Saturday night, sending photogs flying. As Madden approached his waiting ride, the Good Charlotte frontman finally lost his patience and rocked one unlucky photog with an openhanded shot to the chest. As the photog stumbled backwards, Madden and Richie quickly got into the car, and sped off into the night.

The day before this scuffle, chopstick-thin Richie was rushed to the hospital after feeling dizzy on the set of "The Simple Life" -- after 20 hours of filming. She was treated for dehydration and released. Looks like Madden was just being a bit protective of his girl.

16. For someone who seemingly doesn't eat, how come she's always going out to dinner? What does she do there while her BF is apparently eating? Or does she eat something and puke it up in the bathroom? I wonder if these Hollywood eateries are all full of these broads puking in the bathrooms. Yuck.

17. Nicole needs serious intervention. her parents know it, her "real friends know it" ( if they bother to tell her--hmm Paris, Lindasy, Britney) Her current boyfiend. When Nicole walks down kinston to purchase some new clothes-- she might not make it-- just like the skiiny model who dropped dead. she is only 85lbs. It was stated on her arrest sheet. She is seriously underweight.

Anna Nicole looked good with curves so does J LO

Nicole wake up and smell the nearest treatment center. Don't be ashamed

18. I have never figured out why these celebrities react to the paparazzi like this. Why don't they just walk to the car getting their picture taken and get in and drive away? The worst thing is that the flashbulbs are kind of blinding, but other than that why do they get so pissed off about getting their photo taken? Don't they need some publicity for their careers? Just say a simple hello, and keep walking to the car and go. Why get so heated up that you push the guy or punch the guy? It's just a photo, he's not grabbing your girlfriend. Then, you could punch the photo guy, but I dont' know why they react so much. So it's a bit annoying, it's nothing to get so worked up over if you ask me. I would just go around getting photographed and either talk a bit to them or ignore them depending on the mood I was in or if I was in a hurry or not.

19. LOL!!! That was pretty funny..... Looks to me like Nicole was enjoying every minute of that (did you see the big smile on her face) Give me a break...... I mean HELLO, what do you expect when you go to a "hot spot" like Mr. Chows???? Obviously there are going to be paprazzi there and you know they will be filming/taking pictures of you. Nicole was never shy around the paparazzi before, so why push them out of the way now??? I totally understand the aggrivation of those morons following you around all f 'ng day, but you should've known that was going to happen......Especially w/ Nicole Richie..... like I said she never shyed away before.

21. Paps need to respect the concept of 'Personal Space'. They don't.

22. Paparazzi deserve a good beat down if they stand in the way of people. take you photo and move it. they stand and purposely get in the way so you cant get by. they try to get you to react so this fool got a little of what he deserved. and then he has the balls to threaten the guy. I hope she sends a hitman after the photog and they kick the sh8t out of him in a dark alley.

23. She sure spends a lot of time entering and leaving restaurants. One would believe that little Skeletor eats. This not being true I think she only goes for the paparazzi.

The girl has such mental problems. No wonder some celebrities who know the system grab their families and beat feet out of Hollywood to raise little ones in another environment. This sense of entitlement is disgusting looking at the likes of her, Britney, Lindsey and of course Paris. Don't encourage them with press coverage for doing nothing. Write about them if they die or go to jail. Oops! All four fall into my criteria.

25. Nicole and her boorish ox of a boyfriend need to eat at home if they don't want to be photographed. Nicole was the one who ran to the media with herpes whore begging and pleading for people to snap pics of them. She was the one who wanted all this attention.

26. Well since we are approaching March Madness (perhaps Maddeness in this case), I gotta say it reminded me of a perfect offensive foul, or as we used to call it .....charging. The pap gets quickly into place and firmly plants his self and obstructs the way. So the C-lister celeb pushes him out of the way rather forcefully. Foul!!! Like in bball, a foul is something that garners a penalty. CAN YOU SAY LITIGATION boys and girls? I think ya can.

Hmmmm. Let's see. Harmful and/or offensive touching = battery. Harmful? Well maybe, with the right doctor on the stand to swear that the pap has a rare bone condition that caused a broken rib due to soft or brittle tissue, which in turn collapsed the pap's lung resulting in extreme pain and $uffering and a near death experience all of which will require extensive lifelong medical treatment in regards to both physical and mental problems as a direct result of this brazen and wanton disregard to human wellbeing and dignity. But I digress..... Tack on just a smidge more for the emotional distre$$ that is resulting in his inability to effectively perform his job as a pap and make a living, and we're looking at a conservative $1 mil claim, and that's before seeking punitive damages for acting like such a spoiled little shit in the first place . That brings us to, oh lets say 5 mil....nice round number. The pap will of course settle for of let's say 5k....if a certified cashier's check is delivered to his attorney by say Wednesday at sundown (just to be dramatic in true Hollywood fashion). All for basically filing a few papers and making a couple of calls....and getting the all important offensive foul. What I'm trying to say is, pics or papers ......Der's gold in dem dar Hill$.

I have a unique perspective in all this I suppose. I helped work my way through college and grad school by working as both a photographer and a personal security specialist (the pc way to say bodyguard....). I ended up with graduate degrees in journalism and media management and then decided to go to law school to learn entertainment and media law. So you might say I have spent a lot of time to really understand all the implications of the whole phenomena that has become what we witness in these incidents.

My take on it all is that celebs put themselves out there to become the target of the paps. I hope that it comes as no surprise that the law does differ between celebs and non-celebs in this situation. But the benefit doesn't run to celebs. Basically it's a harsher standard for them to bear....because they thrust themselves onto the public. Basically the courts say....hey you wanted fame, this comes with it. You get one... you get the other whether you want it or not. If you don't like it, well there's always barber school (hmmm maybe Brit was trying to get out?). Remember there are no rights to celebrity, rather it is a privilege that one exercises themself . They do bring it upon themselves.

#s 6 & 13 are absolutely correct in that people go to Mr. Chow to be seen. The same as they do at the Ivy where they'll only be seen on the patio....generally SO THEY CAN BE PHOTOGRAPHED (btw, the food there is way over priced and really isn't that good in my opinion - when in L.A., try Pink's Hot Dogs or Patrick's Roadhouse for good cheap eats, many many celebs do, shhhhhh). I'm sure they would have delivered to the couple if requested to.....for a nominal fee of course. This is not to say they don't a right to go there (they do more than you since they are welcomed through the door unannounced). But, they must assume that they will be accosted by the paps, because that's what the paps do and since they are very aware of this process having had to deal with it for years in many cases, they can't claim that altercations are entirely the paps fault when they arise.

#4 is absolutely on the right track here. The fame and success of celebs is derived from the public at large. More than any other segment of society, they rely on many many people to achieve the success that they seek (i.e. fame and fortune) - most do anyway. When you see one rolling a 1k$+ ride down Sunset, just think about how many nickels and dimes have been taken out of pockets around the world to put them behind the wheel. So that the public takes an interest in their lives, all level of their lives, should not be surprising. The paps merely show the way and make far less money for a living than do the celebs, partially as a result of the efforts of the paps. Remember that the public is inextricably linked to the media/press/paparazzi. They have but one reason to exist and that is to deliver their story to the public....to you.....you're here reading TMZ aren't you? Try to argue your way out of that one.

#4 is also correct in that the paps do fuel the career/fame of their subjects, which in turn runs to their benefit. The old saying goes "there's really no such thing as bad press." The paps also do yeild some good press for the subjects as well. Matt McConaughey was the first feature on TMZ this morning when I logged on. His latest film has performed under par and he could have been slammed. But it looks like our host pap here has decided to give him a shout out instead, which helps bolster him (and his paychecks) in regards to the public.

Madden should have first asked the pap to move (with a definitive moment in which the pap could have contemplated and complied). Then if the pap stood his ground, he would have had more leeway in claiming necessity (a legal affirmative defense) for the shove or he himself could brought a claim against the pap (trespass to chattels possibly - denying him possession of his property), who would be out gunned financially in regards to defending the claim. There are simply more prudent (legal standard in these types of cases) means by which to conduct oneself. If not......Der's gold in dem dar Hill$.

BTW, riddle me this. How can a ghanja queen stay stick thin. Where is she gettin' her stuff? I think she might have a defense there somehow....you know...."hey just look at me". Unfortunately she confessed and since ignorance is not a legal defense, I'm sure stupidity gets ya nowhere.

27. What is ridiculous is that the so-called stars of today make a big deal out of being annoyed at the paparazzi. What's the big deal about having your picture taken. You don't have to stop walking, just keep going to your car or wherever and let them take the pictures. I think sometimes the celebs make a fuss for publicity.

It's different if they trespass on your private property at home. All you have to do then is call the cops. But walking the city streets even if it is to go from a door to your car is no big deal. The problem is these so-called victims are afraid that these camera guys will get too many pictures of them and won't want any more.

I speak from experience having been with a superstar for years before he passed away and it never bothered him. He just smiled ond we went on our merry way. He was a much bigger star than these young kids of today and it never bothered him. They respected him more too.
