"Idol" Producer Slams Rosie, Defends Show

Nigel Lythgoe, executive producer of "American Idol," has just released a statement in response to criticism made against the show by "View" host Rosie O'Donnell. It reads:

"Without wishing to add to the obvious self-promotion of Ms. O'Donnell, I feel as though I must refute her absurd and ridiculous claims that 'American Idol' is racist and/or weightist.

"Ms. O'Donnell has, once again, spoken without thought or knowledge. Viewers need only look at the show tonight to realize that 'American Idol' constantly confirms to America that talent has nothing to do with weight or color."

It was Rosie's comments on Tuesday's episode of "The View" that drew "Idol's" ire. Rosie called the show "weightist and racist" over the way it has handled the Antonella Barba photo scandal this season, as opposed to when it booted contestant Frenchie Davis for the same thing. Although an "Idol" spy tells us that the difference is that Frenchie was paid for her pre-Idol porn, while Antonella's photos were private, and published without her knowledge or permission.

Idol's On Vacation: Click to launch photos"Idol" has also banned "The View" from using clips from the show.

62. I used to be Rosie's biggest fan. When she came on to the View, I was so excited and tuned in every day. But over time, I saw how she had changed. She has gotten sooooo negative and nasty.....seems full of hate. I worry about her need to trash people. She picks on people relentlessly, and people only do that to build themselves up. Typical bully behavior.

I honest to God think that her antidepressant has pooped-out on her...which they all do over time. She is exhibiting the typical symptoms of AD poop-out ( irritability, argumentative, negative ). She should research this. And I wish she would stop promoting antidepressants. They are very harmful to many people, and they alter your brain chemistry. I know from experience...went through a hellacious withdrawal for over a year.
Why, if she were to stop her AD tomorrow, you would see Rosie self destruct in a matter of days. She will be WAY WAY worse than she ever was before she started taking them.

Anyway....I'm saddened by her lack of moral character she used to have. She wont allow her children to watch tv because of the bad stuff on it, but hmmmmmm....she is a very nasty person on the View, and she did a disgusting sex scene ( humping and all ) on Nip-Tuck.
Guess she doesn't want her own kids to see what a vile person she's become.

I love the old Rosie...I miss her.

64. Thank you Nygel for speaking your mind. It's about time someone did. As I last checked over 70% said that Rosie was clearly in the wrong. As for Rosie, she needs to shut her pie hole.

65. To Practical:
When I said "you people", I meant anyone who brings up the race card (not necessarily black people). My best friend is black....my apologies.

66. Lythgoe is completely full of it. Although I do think that Idol has . . . ummmmm . . . . *revised* some of its policies after getting bitten in the ass a few times, certainly in the earlier seasons weight was an absolute issue and something that Simon (and Randy and even Paula) routinely mocked and criticized. The girls took the heat much more than the guys, but even Ruben got hit with it. I don't think they're racist per se. I think Rosie meant to say it looked like discrimination -- she immediately revised her comment to "weightist" rather than racist. She made her point, she clearly hit a nerve and she’s not wrong on this one. Wasn’t it just last season that Simon had to apologize to one of the finalists (who had a hell of a voice) for nasty comments he’d made behind her back but on camera? For example, among other things he said that if they put her through they’d have to get a bigger stage. Well, of course it got back to her and hurt and embarrassed her on national television.

I found it interesting that just last night, one of the male contestants brought up that he’d dropped some pounds since his huskier high school days and when Ryan simply asked him how he’d lost the weight, Simon almost flew out of his chair and immediately cut Ryan off and told him not to talk about it. Live TV folks. Simon’s bizarre, clearly stressed out reaction to a weight related question was totally out of character and a clear sign that this issue sensitivity is a sudden and entirely new concept at that show and is only in response to this latest controversy. This sudden righteous indignation on Lythgoe’s part is total crap.

On a side note, I saw Frenchie interviewed on (ironically) The View years ago not long after she’d been kicked off Idol and at that time she said she was never nude in those pictures. She was in lingerie. So if true, she was essentially a paid lingerie model for a website. Fredericks.com, VictoriaSecret.com, what’s the difference really? So essentially Antonella and Frenchie are guilty of the same thing – youthful questionable judgment. Antonella did it just for the hell of it and it came back to bite her. Frenchie did it to pay the rent, but she gets booted for it. How is that fair?

67. Rosie is on antidepressants for depression. Obviously she needs to see if the estate of ANS has any drugs left to give her to shut her up.

68. I wish Barbara would get rid of her. She's nothing but a big mouth bitch!!! She acts like "The View" is her show when she's the newbie on the block. I can't stand to watch the show with that loud mouth bitch on it.

69.

Sexist. The show is definitely sexist. Look at the way they treated Paula Abdul, accusing her of alcoholism. Look at the photo attached to this article of Simon salaciously sizing up the crotch of a girl in a bathing suit. Look at the new fugly contestant who got breast enhancement to boost her chances of winning and possibly give her doctor some P.R. By the way, she looks like an Ethel Mertz wannabe, she is still not attractive. Also, by the way, I Love Lucy was the first TV series (extremely successful) that portrayed an interracial couple. By the way, there are no more by-the-ways from here on.

I have never watched American Idol, not even once. Why not? Because it looks hokey and boring and I don't want to be sucked in to something that is likely rigged and contrived. I did want to watch when Queen songs were performed but had more important things to do.

I'm just not into fake anything. No fake contests, fake breasts, fake people. This show is like watching high school football, but the real talent show comes afterward, in college and at the pro level. When the talent shows itself then I'll start watching. I'm suspicious of the winners though and when a new talent is pushed out there with this show attached to their names I find myself scrutinizing them and I find they aren't that talented after all. They are a product, not so much a real talent - with maybe one exception to that.

Lastly, Ryan is hot. So hot the vapors are rising above him. If I were a cloud, I'd float above him so that I could catch his vapors. (Don't steal my lines plagiarists. You vultures know who you are.)

70. Man, I am so sick and tired of Rosie. She needs to shut her trap. Why does she get her kicks razzing other people (ie, The Donald & Paula). Because of her, I will not ever watch The View (I work during the day anyway). Rosie makes me want to vomit with her trash small talk. She is doing this simply for the ratings. She should learn a thing or two about class from Ellen and Lady O. BRING BACK STAR JONES!

71. To Practical....you respect an attorney who defends a murderer?????? If it wasn't for Johnny, O.J. would be in prison. That is why I can't stand him...not b/c he's "African American". Johnny was not a public defender (they have no choice but defend their clients who are murderers/rapists etc.). Maybe by now, God showed him the videotape of that night. I hate Scott Peterson too.....oh wait he's white...never mind....white people defend white murderers and their attorneys.

72. no doubt they keep antonella barba because she is a pretty skinny white girl, vs plus size black women like frenchie, the show mirrors america, after all, who do not care too much for black women and take every opportunity to show it. however i will give idol two points, 1. french davis was dismissed when the show was early in its second second, now i think the show realizes it can weather scandal more and is willing to cut the contestants some slack. 2 . frenchie was indeed paid and gave permission, and the AB did not.
nevertheless, Frenchie has career in music, but i doubt Antonella barba has(a great adult porn star name, dont you think?) she should take the topless/porn offers she get and move on with her life.

73. Arrogant, slutty Antonella needs to go.

Ofcourse this (british) Nigel person isn't offended by the desecration of an American National Monument by this slutty Ms. Barba!

74. They are racist against Latins. They certainly are sexists. They represent the status quo. They push the pet races. They are unoriginal and afraid to be fair in representing everyone. They are stuck in a quagmire. It's apparent by the winners and by the articles about the show. It's good that people like the show and watch it religiously; you've gotta like something in life.
