Burke & Charvet, Saving the World One Burger at a Time

Brooke Burke and David Charvet bought a boxful of burgers and fries and distributed them to the homeless in glamorous Santa Monica this weekend.

The new parents were spotted with a boxful from Burger King, where they ordered forty burgers and fries from a drive-thru and proceeded to distribute them on foot to the seaside city's less fortunate.

Santa Monica, home to celebrities, is also home to approximately 2,000 homeless persons.

16. Celebs just can't win with the cynics....
You bitch when they "don't care enough to help" and bitch when they do!
So, what's it gonna be??
What they did was very thoughtful and I'm sure that it was very much appreciated.

17. The vast majority of homeless people are those released from mental institutions due to cost cut-backs. people with disabilities who cannot find work or are unable to do so, people with addictions and often families who have suffered misfortune and are struggling to climb out of the hole they find themselves in. I find it mind-boggling to see the comments from people who have no empathy or compassion and think these people chose this life for themselves and think that all of the homeless are content with their situation and do nothing to improve it. No wonder foreigners have such a dim view of us as a country. Many Americans do nothing but complain about the homeless people and do nothing to help make the situation better. They sit in their easy chairs and say that celebs should 'do something' to help and then bitch about them being publicity seekers when they actually do something. May-be this is why our social problems don't seem to ever get better and actually get worse.

18. Regardless of whether they're "copying" other celebs, they STILL did something GOOD! Good for them. I wish more celebs, and regular people in general, would do the same...including myself.

19. HEY ALL YOU HATERS!! GO SCREW YOURSELVES. YOU HAVE NO IDEA WHAT HAPPENED IN THESE PEOPLES LIVES FOR THEM TO BE HOMELESS. DO YOU THINK THEY WANT IT? OF COURSE NOT. ALL YOU PEOPLE WHO LIVE THERE, AS ONE IDIOT SAID, SCREW YOURSELF. NOT EVERYONE IS FORTUNATE IN THIS LIFETIME AND PEOPLE WHO DO "A LITTLE" THAT MEANS " A LOT". MUCH MORE THAN YOU CAN SAY FOR YOURSELVES!!

22. They'd be better serving the homeless community if they wrote a check instead of being so desperate for a photo opp. PATHETIC LOSERS.

25. Every time you give a bum a dollar or a sandwich, he laughs at you. You may think you're being "good," you may get a nice little "warm feeling" from your "act." But the bum knows you're a sap. The bum knows you're a sucker. And he knows you are very, very WEAK. The moment you turn your back, he chuckles to himself; because he's just scored again. Quit feeding pathetic bums. Quit giving them money. Quit building them "homeless shelters." Bums are bums because they WANT to be bums. Why should they work when the world is full with weak do-gooders like you? Enough with your "compassion" rhetoric. You're not compassionate, you're weak. True compassion comes only from strength, and it's reserved for those who have proven themselves worthy of your compassion, like your friends and family. You have no real strength of your own; that's why you pretend you have "compassion" for lazy, good-for-nothing, devilish bums. If you had strength, you would see right through their game. You cannot see through their game because you're playing your own game, which is, acting like you're "compassionate." Get it? No, you probably don't. This is Truth, and you hate Truth. You also hate being exposed for the fake phony that you are, and always have been. Get real. Wake up.

26. Nice selfless act...i am sure they appreciate it. Maybe with all the money they have erecting a homeless shelter might be a better idea

27. OK, it was a nice gesture. But it seems rather spontaneous and superficial. A long term commitment to cause might be nice. I'm sure they patted each other on the back all day for that, told all thier friends, blah blah blah. They ain't no Angelina Jolie!! =)

28. I'm sure the people who received the food could care less if it was a photo-op or not. They got a meal. How many of the naysayers are out there helping the less fortunate?

29. Hey all you idiot haters. When I stayed in Santa Monica, I went out on the beach and gave what I had leftover from my stay to a guy and his wife who lived on the beach. I listened to their story.

ANY of you ever do that? DOES PARIS FUCKING HILTON EVER DO THAT????

SO, next time you want to rip down these 2 celebs, LOOK IN THE MIRROR> what have YOU DONE LATELY?

30. It seems like not long ago I heard a story about a program, probably administered by L.A. County, that was placing SOME of the homeless in SanMo in $2500 a month apartments there. Have any of the locals there heard that story? I live Boston but spend 3 - 4 months out of the year in L.A. for now, and am planning on a permanent move there soon. Despite having completed studies at Harvard Law (scraping by on student loans and working on the side when and where I could - NO trust funds here folks) I cannot afford that type of a setup.... at this time anyway. Why was it that I put myself through such hell again??? Having traveled around the U.S. quite a bit I can say that the homeless vary a great deal. I grew up in a small town in the south so when I moved to the cities for school, it was rather a new experience although I had seen it in my travels from the time I was too young to even think about it. Boston is an interesting place in regards to the homeless. Some have it tough - the winters here are brutal. But we have far to many that make a good living begging in the street. There was one guy that I had to pass each morning that, not only was well groomed and dressed, but he actually had a stool to sit on - everyday. Someone told me that he actually had a car. It WAS his job. Most of the time I barely had change for the subway, so I didn't feel bad passing this guy by each day. San Francisco is the heaviest I think. I actually had a guy roll by me downhill on a bicycle, at like 20 mph, asking if "I could spare any change." I though that was a riot. Carpet begging! There are some people that you do want to help though. I remember on Fisherman's Wharf once there was a guy begging...not for money...not for you to buy him a meal....all he asked, begged, was that you not through any food away, that you leave anything you didn't want on top of the trash can. One guy in San Fran, that has to be homeless decided to become a street performer but apparently had no talent. If you've been there you know who I'm talking about.....The famous San Francisco Bushman! He got a couple of palm fawns and sits hiding behind them ....just like a bush and scares people as they walk by. He'll have a hundred people standing around, all in on the gag waiting for someone to walk by. After a few scares, he passes his bucket around for change. Hey....he's got a job. I fell in love with SanMo years ago and I'd like to live there. I can understand why so many homeless flock there. What better place to be homeless. Really....think about it. Great year round climate and probably the best beach in the continental U.S. for you front yard. I don't think I have ever been approached by the homeless there in all the times I've hung out there. At least not on the bluffs or the beach. As swank as SanMo is, what are the attitudes of the businesses in the area regarding the homeless? I love SanMo but I really like Manhattan Beach....less touristy and more laid back. For the locals, what are the downfalls of the latter over SanMo? Well I've rambled on enough for now.
