Regis -- Bypassed by Docs, Bathed by Kelly?

Regis Philbin is going under the knife this week for bypass surgery, and looks like he'll have the services of a preternaturally perky nurse -- his co-host Kelly Ripa -- should he want them.

Philbin announced on this morning's "Live with Regis and Kelly" that he's going to have heart bypass surgery after experiencing shortness of breath and chest pains. His preferred mode of treatment was angioplasty -- "Bang, bang, bang, they blow it open," as he described it -- but doctors insisted on the more invasive bypass.

Kelly obligingly offered her, er, assistance: "My primary job will be, like it or not, get your pills ready -- your sponge-bath nurse." To which Reege very quickly replied, "Why don't you give me a quick dip before I go?"

Philbin says he'll be away from the show for five weeks. No word on whether Clay Aiken will fill in for the peppy talkmaster.

62. Hey Reege First I want to wish you good speed. I myself had a 5 Arty bypass 16 yrs ago,and Im feeling great to this day, everyday after the operation you will feel better & better, even better than you ever felt before. Hurry back.

64. I just want Regis to know that I love him very much and I am wiching him a speedy recovery. My mother is only 51 yrs old and she had it dont, So Regis your doing the right thing. You are going to be fine. I will be praying for you. Kelly you are wonderful just ignore all the negatives, you are the best.

I am wishing you good luck. I love you and you will be missed. You are doing the right thing my mother is 51 and she had it done, and she is doing good. I will pray a special prayer for you.
As for Kelly you are great, just ignore all the negatives things that said about you. What people should be doing right now is to pray for Regis . I love you Kelly continue to do what you do.

68. regis, i have went threw 6 bypasses with dif. family members. you looked really stressed on monday when you informed everyone of your upcomming bypass. it's tuff, but a very good thing. this proceedure has come a very long way and you will do great. please know that our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. you are a human being, husband, and father first. please remember that. i don't know you personnaly, but you seem to be a really down to earth good person. take care! debbie from junction city kansas

Hey Regis, I've been under the knife for open heart surgery it is truly amazing what the doctors can do these days keep the faith and just know you are in our thoughts and prayers PLEASE listen to the doctors and nurses. May you have a speedy recovery! fyi i had mt operation on Tues. Aug 1,2006 and came home Fri. Aug 4th! I had valve replacement Take care and God bless!!!

you are a great person and host. i won't be watching the show until regis comes
back. i don't like kelly because she is so much into herself and doesn't give
anyone a chance to talk. she wants to be center of attraction. i agree with eddie that
joy should be with regis, love them both together.

I saw the show with Clay Aiken, thought he was funny and even Kelly was funny. I like sarcastic wit but I guess it went over Ripa's head.
