Fear Not Oprah, Tyrese Has Your Back!

TyreseAttention TMZ readers: Bizarro press release alert!

Not that anyone asked, but actor/model/rapper Tyrese aka Black Ty has issued a statement in defense of Oprah Winfrey's South African school. Earlier this week, reports surfaced claiming that Oprah Winfrey's Leadership Academy for Girls was too strict with its students. While the Big O already issued a statement denying the allegations, Tyrese has gone ahead and thrown his fitty cents into the Winfrey PR mix.

Tyrese's statement reads, "There is a staggering amount of millionaires and billionaires out in the world that do nothing to effect positive change within society. The fact that Oprah Winfrey took a monumental step to create a school in South Africa for the betterment of African children rather then (sic) just speak of change is commendable. The bible says -- 'No good deed shall go unpunished,' (sic) and there are many critics out in the world turning up negative stones (sic) to find a flaw in this wonderful gift donated to South Africa by Oprah Winfrey. I stand with Oprah in the fight for change and positive world reform and I hope that people realize there will always be struggle and without struggle there is no progression. (sic) Please leave her alone and let the blessings she is offering outshine the public scrutiny she is facing."

Oprah can sleep peacefully knowing the guy from "2 Fast 2 Furious" is on her team!

33. Ujay, you're right. How can we criticize someone for doing a good thing? The old green eyed monster sure rears it's ugly head. Bet none of the haters would have complained if she'd GIVEN you the money, right? You'd turn it down?--Really? I'd bet you wouldn't. So don't hate Tyrese or Oprah or anyone else who is actually doing something positve with their money and influence in this world. Get off the negative media bandwagon and dare to be positive in this world!

39. "There is a staggering amount . . ." is the correct use of the verb, so there is no need to place a "(sic)" after "is." "Amount" is a singular noun. The verb should agree with "amount," which is singular, not with the object of the preposition.

#28 - Your comment about Tyrese being a "monkey" could be construed as racist . I hope that's not what you meant to imply.

40. HEAR HEAR. OPRAH IS FUCKIN OVERRATED.

7. As I see it, Tyrese came down from the mountain and issued a commandant that no one is to say bad things about Oprah. He's hardly an individual that anyone should listen to or even care about. Also, don't act like Oprah is the only zillionare who ever donated money. Bill Gates and Warren Buffett billions in donations dwarf O's donation. We appreciate Oprah's philathropy; however, the kind of money she makes, it should be expected unless someone is morally bankrupt.

41. whilst molding them into what she wants

12. All you critics of Oprah's generosity for these poor girs in South Africa make me sick.

Would you rather see them starved, raped, beaten or HIV positive for the rest of there lives. She is using her own money to help educated possible leaders 30 years from now.

We pay taxes in this country for theeducation of youth sin t his country and for schools, yet they are in shambles most of them.

Instead of critizing Oprah why not take the time to visit a classroom, go to a school board meeting, write a complaint letter on behalf of your tax dollars to your cit yansd state reps.

42. yeah, she got whooped by JK Rowling who is much younger and made her money much faster. Oprah is just a control freak and celebrity whore.

24. Oprah, is the second most wealthiest female celebrity to exist. Her networt is one billion k. She is a beautiful woman with integrity. I love her because because she is a strong, warm-hearted human being that gives back to those in need. Alot of celebrities go to Africa to party but they do not build schools. Great job Oprah!

43. I agree with Tyrese and would like to ask those who are criticizing her effort, "What have you done for the less priviledged lately?"

Sadly though.... as someone already stated, the quote "No deed goes unpunished" is not from the Bible. It was made by Clare Boothe Luce. It amazes me how often people misquote the Bible.

44. #31, what about you? All you got do is get off your ass and help yourself. This a free country with alot of opportunies if you move you butt. The problem with your community is crying never gets anything solved. Most people in the New Orleans area were families who live on the government and didn't educated their children, had too many babies out-of wedlock and men cared more about themselves than about their families. Oprah built a school where education was wanted, It's just sad to say blacks are waiting for Uncle Sam or Uncle Daddy to make their lives when they can do it themselves. The five steps to help your community, #1, Strong families, #2, men who will lead with standards, #education, #4, STOP out-of wed-lock birth, #5 believe in GOD which really is the #1 thing. I know the truth hurts but remember this, MOST MEN WILL SACRAFICE THEMSELVES FOR THEIR FAMILIES, BLACKMEN HAVE SACRAFICE THEIR FAMILIES FOR THEMSELVES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

45. The first "sic" is misplaced -- the subject of the sentence is singular -- the preposition is plural. Therefore, "there is a staggering amount" IS correct. If the sentence was rewritten as "the amount of millionaires is staggering", you can see why it's right. "No good deed goes unpunished" doesn't show up anywhere in the Bible, Tyrese. A few similar things ("A prophet is despised in his own country, and in his own house, and among his own kindred" is about the closest I can think of.
