Sanjaya: Bottoming Out?

Sanjaya MalakarA source tells TMZ that 17-year-old "American Idol" contestant Sanjaya Malakar's cheery smile is simply a front ... and privately, the winsome teen is actually bumming.

A source close to Sanjaya's family revealed exclusively to TMZ that the darling hula-dancer has been devastated by recent bad press he's received over his not-so-precious singing. "He's so young and so sensitive, it's hard for him to go out on that stage and not have that devastation affect his performance," said the source.

Apparently, it's not just hard on Sanjy, but on his family as well; they are trying their best to just be a strong support system for the adorable teenager as he hulas his way through this sometimes surreal experience as one of the remaining 11 American Idols. It's unlikely that Sanjaya will have to endure it much longer. He was in the bottom two last week.

16. I love Sanjaya. I think you guys should leave him alone. Obviously people like him because he is in the top 11. He is different and unique. I'm sick of the same type of people always winning. He deserves it and he is so adorable.

20. It's not our fault that he can't sing. He should just suck it up and be thankful he's made it this far. I'm pretty sure he will be the one to go next.

21. If you were to listen to an mp3 of Sanjaya and then Blake or Chris R, you would realize he has the best voice of the three of them. I think he needs to grown in his performance skills, but he does have a nice singing voice.

As for the gay crap, what is with you people??? Are you all in junior high?? Going by your standards, then every rapper is gay. Have you ever seen one of them able to "sing" without a hand crammed between their legs??

23. Sanjaya must be suffering. You cannot sound that horrible and have the judges tell you every week how bad you are and not get a complex. He is young and seems like a sweet kid. He has time to practice and get better. The worst part is that other good singers have been eliminated and Sanjaya has stayed on the show. He must be dying to get voted off. I sure wouldn't want to be in his position.

24. I think I must be the only one to have perceived it this way, but last week when Sanjaya found out that he was staying, I would swear that he looked..... upset, disappointed, etc.

I think he is READY to go home.

29. He got to go. Right now he the reason why some people are tunning in to see what he is going to sing this week. I don't know what america thinks about keeping the agony of his singing going on for weeks on out. Sanjaya just quit and then you won't have to worry about the press and coments from viewers. This time we all agree with Simon that he should have never made it this far but wasn't it the judges that put him in the top 24 in the beginning?
