Sanjaya: Bottoming Out?

Sanjaya MalakarA source tells TMZ that 17-year-old "American Idol" contestant Sanjaya Malakar's cheery smile is simply a front ... and privately, the winsome teen is actually bumming.

A source close to Sanjaya's family revealed exclusively to TMZ that the darling hula-dancer has been devastated by recent bad press he's received over his not-so-precious singing. "He's so young and so sensitive, it's hard for him to go out on that stage and not have that devastation affect his performance," said the source.

Apparently, it's not just hard on Sanjy, but on his family as well; they are trying their best to just be a strong support system for the adorable teenager as he hulas his way through this sometimes surreal experience as one of the remaining 11 American Idols. It's unlikely that Sanjaya will have to endure it much longer. He was in the bottom two last week.

78. Sanjaya has yet to iss a note. This kid is singing effortlessly from his abdomen the way a professional singer/vocalist does. If he were white he would be in. I know this cause those who are not kids say the same thing. What he has done is continue to entertain us with elegance and excellent sound quality. Did you hear that "quality"
Sanjaya, like Diana Ross said is simply "gifted" and has the ability to walk into a song without setting up the band ... he "is" a natural. He has sung everything put before him even JAZZ and not one of the others have done it so completely. Thing is soooooooo much of the comments are kiddie. But Sunjaya is singing in a competition where adults too vote and that is what is keeping him afloat ... those that know someone that can carry a note and NOT sing through their nose, make clicking, car reeving sounds and forget their lyrics. He is singing and you know he is. His career is already going to skyrocket cause those who own studios are just waiting to rund CD's on him. The others will HAVE to win to get an ounce of that attention. SING SANJAYA and let the others wallow in their own ignorance and stupidity.
Cause ... that is the way it is ... deal with it !!!

79. He is a GREAT talented vocalist that does not sing through his nose or mis his lyrics.
He is one of the absolute TOP talents the show has ever come into.

81. Sanjaya is a sweet kid, he just cannot sing! This is a singing contest not a comedy skit. he should be embarrased to stay o the show, under these circumstances and resign! His whole life he will never live down making a fool out of himself in front of 30 million people. It's really sad!

83. I can't believe the comments tell more about the person writing them, than about Sanjaya. Well we will being hearing alot more about Sanjaya in the future, like it or not. The kid has charisma, not doubt about it, or we wouldn't be here writing about him. He will develop, as everybody knows he is 17. He will be a player, Hollywood, TV, Radio, somewhere--bet on it, going to happen--by the way--get a life of your own, he has a good one ahead of him.

84. It's simple and I'm not afraid to say it. He's being lied about by v4tw to support it's own cause. I'm also not afraid to say he sounds good when he sings. NOT every performance was good. He's NOT as good as some other singers there. But he's also NOT terrible. People assume that if there is a power belter stronger than him that he should immediately go home. Not so in the record industry.

Being a recording artist/star means being able to be enjoyable to watch while at the same time being reasonably good singer. I'm not wrong on this. In season one I absolutely knew that Kelly Clarkson was awesome and voted for her like mad. But I've learned that in other years it takes a combination of things. This year, Melinda and Lakisha are no doubt the best vocalists there are. But sometimes they can seem a bit bland. I think one of them will will the title, but again, being a star should require more than just singing. Sanjaya is said to be horrible because people repeat gossip like parrots. He's a fairly good (not awesome) singer that happens to be a lot of fun to watch. And I don't mean that he's simply a clown either. Some of the girls seem to like his moves and his personality as well. All that combines to give him staying power.
