Letterman Sick, Sandler to Host

Sandler, LettermanDavid Letterman has come down with a stomach virus and won't host "The Late Show" tonight, so Adam Sandler will take his place, TMZ has learned.

Sources tell TMZ that Letterman came into the office today, but didn't feel up to hosting. It was the last scheduled taping for the week, so Dave thought it best to get the extra rest.

Sandler's guests will be his "Reign Over Me" co-star Don Cheadle, comedian Todd Barry, race car driver Danica Patrick and singer Lucinda Williams.

Dave, who has only been off the job twice -- for heart surgery and a case of the shingles -- is expected back on Monday.

16. 35 million a year and he's done for a weeks taping on Tuesday? Nice gig.

Sandler is like Will Ferrell, always with a new movie coming out and putting his smug toddler talking mug anywhere he can.. They're both movie pushing whores.

20. The two best late-night hosts in history: Dave Letterman and Johnny Carson. Get well soon, Dave...I need your unique brand of humor (which obviously, some rubes on this post don't understand) to get me through the week!

25. Well......I watched Adam Sandler tonight he wasn't too bad , but it definitly wasn't the adam we all know and love. He didn't have enough time to prepare i don't think and his humor was kinda stale. The dog was cute and it started out funny but enough is enough, the whole show? He was better on SNL for sure. He better stick to his movies, cause he was too nervous, but it was a good attempt. Sorry Adam i have to tell the truth. I am still a fan and wish you luck in future. Get well Dave!!

26. David Letterman was cutting edge during his days at NBC. Now, it's warmed over fluff and lazy humor. Somehow some of you relate this to some a higher intellectual plain of humor. Give me a break and to those of you who need David Letterman to get you through the week, you're pathetic and get a life!. Rube

27. Ewwww, Adam Sandler?! Is that the best they could do? I absolutely cannot stand him or his so-called comedy. I know I won't watch at all! Get well SOON Dave, you will be missed. And please Dave, next time you are 'out of the office' get someone that's worth watching to take your place!

28. 7. Dave has been off plenty. His whole last week was re-runs. Why not show another tonight. I don't like Dave, but I'd rather see him than Sandler. Isn't his 15 minutes of fame over yet?

29. Sandler was horrible last night. Man. Thought I was watching a lousy Saturday Night Live Skit. The "Dog interview" went on way too long. Jack black would've been a hell of lot more entertaining...

We need you back Dave!

30. Lettermans a tired ass turning into Larry King type---where you dont do your homework before the show and just kind of arrive and read pre printed materials already prepared for you. And the late in life having a kid routine, could he not be more King like with that move?

He's grouchy, scowling looking, and acting now, and when the audience is laughing, he is rarely if ever laughing along, but rather waiting impatiently with a serious look on his face, for the audience to finish with the interruption of their laughing.

Comes across as the High almighty now, and his political leanings finding their way onto the show are far removed from comedy and what this show and time slot were all about.

Theres a reason he didnt get the Carson gig....You sir are no Johnny Carson. There is no warmth or charm or intellect or dues paying to you sir.

I love it when Madonna and Courtney and Oprah and OReilly and others who arent intimidated by you put you in your Indiana hick place.

And whomever said "stay off this post" if you dont like Letterman and called people Rubes. I dont recall this post being labeled "David Letterman Fan Club".

The guy makes way too much money for far too little work and is slowly but surely going the same way as CBS News is----downhill.

Sandler sucked last night but showed more personality than Letterman has since the 80's.

My god, look at that picture that is posted here of Letterman--typical shot of his unsmiling, you people are irritating me look.
