Sanjaya -- Sandbagged by the Media?

Sanjaya MalakarInside sources close to "American Idol" wannabe Sanjaya Malakar revealed exclusively to TMZ their concerns over the effects of negative media coverage on Sanjy's standing on the show.

According to the sources, they believe that Sanjaya's landing in the bottom two last week was due to all the negative publicity he's received from the media. "It wasn't his best performance, but it wasn't the worst."

America will have to tune in tonight and see if it really is the media dogging the moptopped bottomed-out singer, or if his singing is what's bringing him down. Tonight, the top 11 will perform songs from the 60's British Invasion. One thing's for sure: Sanjaya's got the hair thing down!

46. Gerry, you are probably right. I hear Taylor Hicks really isn't doing as well as they had thought he would. Haley did so much better last night that for the first time she really seemed like a contender. It takes the whole package and I had never thought about Jennifer Hudson, but after you brought it up, she may have a harder time from here on out unless she "re-invents" herself. Probably as far as the whole appeal package, it would be either Haley or Blake. I also can't count out Jordan, although like Sanjaya, she is still awfully young, but boy can she sing and probably has a great future ahead of her. Melinda may not have the universal appeal, but I think she could be probably as good as Roberta Flack, Gladys Knight, Aretha Franklin, and even the old great ones like Peggy Lee and Lena Horne. She is so sweet and talented, I just wish her the best of everything. I have no doubt that Sanjaya is sweet, and I wish him the best, but his appeal is VERY limited and would at the most be a one year wonder. I tend to agree also with "cc" up above. These people are not doing him any favors and will end up hurting him...

47. Well...well..well here we go again! Poor lady on a hunger strike will starve to death by the time the final 5 come about. Sanjaya knows he can't sing but, at this point there is not enough of us pulling togther to oust the offending exposure to elevated sound levels of horrific noise trauma we are suffering. His fan base of miscreants is giving AI voters a run for their money. And he's too vain to bow out. Simon how could you vote this man through the auditions? I side with Simon and believe he didn't realize the really pathetic way it would turn out.

48. I think that Sanjaya is a breath of fresh air. The media and all of the negative comments be hanged. He had the 'metal' to make it through this far and I think he should get the proper credit. This is a stressful competition and I give him the respect that every young person should reach for their dreams.

50. The self-fullfilling prophecy or heresay is that IF everyone follows along with Stern and votes for Sanjaya just to show the world what a rip American Idol is, the voters will only have proved they powered the failer. Circular Logic and completely wrong! The system can be forced to fail, so lets all vote for the worst and make sure it fails.

What a bunch of losers everyone of you are who vote just to break the system. You have less imagination than Sanjaya!

51. It is painful to hear this kid sing and boring as hell!! It's a shame that people are voting for him just to prove a point that they think the show sucks....then don't watch it! It's unfortunate that the bad press is only going to boost his notoriety when he needs to just go back home

52. SANJAYA! listen to yourself. it's painful, it's horrendous. you do not have good hair, you cannot sing, your sister sounded better. give it up, drop out of the competion. every-one is laughing at you! this time the joke is on you. realize that, real soon.

53. America keeps forgetting that AI is a singing competition. It is not a popularity although the better the singer, the greater the publicity machine. Whether America thinks its cool to vote for the worst, I think they have their priorities are little screwy. It doesn't make any difference if the singer is gay, straight, lean or heavy. They should be judged on the quality of their SINGING. Not the length of their hair, or the fact that they are Michael Jackson wannabes -- at least MJ was able to sing. He is a showman. Stephanie Edwards was a good singer. Sundance was a good singer. AJ was a good singer. Sanjaya is not a good singer. If the Producers of American Idol want to keep their Cash Cow alive and well, they best intercede, before America loses interest because credibilityy is quickly going out the window.

54. To No. 6
"he has yet to sing off key?" Man, are you deaf? He sucks and is most of the time off key......he doesn't have what it takes to be a super star. People like you make him believe he is. I would NEVER buy a CD of his and would turn my radio off if he would come on the air.

55. I hope that 'American PieHole' producers decide to have the contestants sing songs by Sinaed O'Connor, Seal, Moby, or some other skintop artist. Love to see the talentless child do his hair like theirs!
