Mel Goes Ballistic -- "Lady, F**k Off!"

TMZ has learned Mel Gibson exploded in anger last night on a college campus after an expert on Mayan culture accussed him of racially stereotyping the Mayans in the movie "Apocalypto."

It happened last night at Cal State University at Northridge in the San Fernando Valley. Gibson was speaking to a film class about his movies, and several members of the Mayan community came to hear the famous director.

After Gibson's presentation, the crowd was allowed to ask questions. Alicia Estrada, an Assistant Professor of Central American Studies at CSUN, challenged Gibson, asking him if he had read about the Mayan culture before shooting the controversial film. Gibson said he had.

Estrada persisted, stating that representations in the movie that the Mayans engaged in sacrificial ceremonies and had bloodthirsty tendencies were both wrong and racist. Estrada and others tell TMZ that Gibson exploded in anger, responding, "Lady, F**k off."

We're told Gibson also became extremely angry when members of the Mayan community protested on how they were portrayed in the film. The emotional Mayan members were escorted out of the room, and we're told Gibson screamed a parting shot -- "Make your own movie!"

UPDATE: Gibson's publicist, Alan Nierob, told TMZ, "This person was a heckler who was rude and disrupted the event, so much so that the event organizers had to escort her out." For the record, Nierob, not Howard Rubenstein, reps Gibson.

31. Liberals at it again!!! Its only a movie and why in America does everyone feel there is a need to complain constantly. By the way I really would like to see more family movies(good stories, no sex or extreme violence) being made. All we are getting is desensitizing junk.

32. Good Grief! It is a movie. I can't believe how many people take any movie SO seriously they feel the need to protest. It is a MOVIE, source of entertainment, not to be taken as gospel. *rolls eyes*

Mel is right! Don't like his movie, make your own or don't see it. Seems so simple, but eludes so many.

I agree with you American Girl( #8)...the race card is whipped out at every turn of controversy. Using it constantly seems to dilute the meaning.

34. I'm sick of this guy. A person states their opinion and you go all psycho on her? And the most intelligent comeback you have for her viewpoint is a swear word? Real mature Mel. Hopefully people will start seeing that this is how he really is and he's charmed you all to make money off you all for years. Can't wait to hear the excuses. Depression? Drunk again? Change in medication? Just waiting for one of the usual excuses for why this happened. How about the truth, this is simply how Mel is.

38. Welcome to the world of political correctness. Ever hear of the U of I Fighting Illini, according to the Liberal World it's not nice to be not nice but it's ok to fill up the music world with language a drunken sailor (oops, another one) doesn't even use.

42. Whatever else racism may be, it is something immoral or disreputable. The fact is that Mel Gibson is right; the Mayans were a bunch of bloodthirsty savages, along with almost every other primitive group that has ever inhabited this planet. So, Mr. Gibson is charged with being a racist for telling a truth that some find unpleasant. Doesn't it concern anybody else that telling the truth is now considered to be immoral? Should we be permitting people whose hearts and posteriors belong elsewhere to be telling Americans what they are allowed to think and say in their own country?

Go, Mel, Go!

44. Its time to give the man a break I agree. I saw the movie. Like others said, if you were attacked constantly as he is it would only seem normal to get upset. The man cant even enter public without being accused of being racist. He's had his trouble no doubt, but enough is enough...
