Mel Goes Ballistic -- "Lady, F**k Off!"

TMZ has learned Mel Gibson exploded in anger last night on a college campus after an expert on Mayan culture accussed him of racially stereotyping the Mayans in the movie "Apocalypto."

It happened last night at Cal State University at Northridge in the San Fernando Valley. Gibson was speaking to a film class about his movies, and several members of the Mayan community came to hear the famous director.

After Gibson's presentation, the crowd was allowed to ask questions. Alicia Estrada, an Assistant Professor of Central American Studies at CSUN, challenged Gibson, asking him if he had read about the Mayan culture before shooting the controversial film. Gibson said he had.

Estrada persisted, stating that representations in the movie that the Mayans engaged in sacrificial ceremonies and had bloodthirsty tendencies were both wrong and racist. Estrada and others tell TMZ that Gibson exploded in anger, responding, "Lady, F**k off."

We're told Gibson also became extremely angry when members of the Mayan community protested on how they were portrayed in the film. The emotional Mayan members were escorted out of the room, and we're told Gibson screamed a parting shot -- "Make your own movie!"

UPDATE: Gibson's publicist, Alan Nierob, told TMZ, "This person was a heckler who was rude and disrupted the event, so much so that the event organizers had to escort her out." For the record, Nierob, not Howard Rubenstein, reps Gibson.

46. TMZ IS A BUNCH OF JEWS OUT TO GET ANYONE WHO DOESNT FEEL THE FORCE TO LOVE JEWS.

TMZ, NO ONE IS OBLIGATED TO LOVE JEWS.

47. People are so jealous of this man. That's the only way to explain stupid moronic remarks like Davie C's. Pure jealously and envy.

Anyone to make a great movie like "The Passion of Christ", and all the others is a sheer genious. I'm a big fan. But Gibson should know better and should stay away from college campus's where liberal idiots thrive, as these same liberal dreamers can't make it in the real world.

49. Yes, it is really annoying that every little insular group is "insulted" by how they are portrayed in movies, tv, etc.

Iranians in 300, natives in King Kong, Mayans in Apocolypto, Italian Americans in mob movies, Sopranos, etc, muslim terrorists in any number of films.

Why can't people grasp a very simple concept, not all Italian Americans are mobsters, but a fair number of mobsters are Italian American, not all muslims are terrorists, but a fair number of terrorists are muslim, I am sure in the history of the Mayan culture, there were those that abhorred the practices depicted, but that does not mean that they didn't happen, so everyone just get over themselves, stop taking themselves so damn seriously and lets all keep our eyes on issues that matter, and not quibble over entertainment.

50. The mayan's are lucky some has taken the time to tell their dumm ass story. Who in the hell cares about their savage asses. The mayan's have not contributed anything to the world. Thay all want to come to America to live in the great land of the U.S.A.
Amricans have done in 200 years ,what thay couldn't do in a thousand years.
Mayans get over it. If you were so proud you would be living in your own country.
Some great warrors ,you have and will lose every war.

51. What Gibson needs right now is for people to do exactly what he suggested: f*** off!

Anger management will only make people more angry if they didn't really deserve to be there. This is Hollywood and the leftist culture proving that they consider freedom of speech to only work for them, not anyone they've decided they don't like at any given moment.

I also am willing to wager that the woman was wrong, and that the Mayans did engage in ritual sacrifice, but that would reflect negatively on her ancestry so she's in denial.

54. You little immature brats on this site!

You probably do not even know anything about this movie or even viewed the flick!

Mel Gibson has every right to make a movie and if someone doesn't like it they just need to get over it.

She was a "loon" and damn well should have been escorted out of the discussion.

57. Read: "The Lies My Teacher Told" and you will find that half the things you learned in school are not true, the book is written by a white person so you won't think that they are being bias. Like after Thanksgiving the Protestants gave the Native Americans blankets full of small pox so they would die and take the land (Bio-warfair). Native Americans did not believe in "owning the land" you took only what you needed. Or the wild dogs that ripped the Native-Americans apart because they could not be in-slave that is why they had to buy slaves from Africa. And for your information Native-Americans did not just cut someones head off to take their land. And in many cases they took on other people and excepted them in to their tribe instead of killing the captures. Sacrifice to the God's is a whole different story in which many wanted to be sacrificed to the God's. In many cases the Spanish and English did the beheading and made it seemed like Native-American tribes did the killing.

60. I saw Apocalypto and thought it was a brilliant movie, and very well done. What was in the movie was what I read and was taught when I went to school. In the USA. Of course today this type of history would be to crude to teach in our schools. Mel is one of the greatest directors of our time, it is too bad that some ignorant persons attend these functions, only to disrupt and bring down this man.
