Mel Goes Ballistic -- "Lady, F**k Off!"

3/23/2007 11:40 AM PDT BY TMZ STAFF

TMZ has learned Mel Gibson exploded in anger last night on a college campus after an expert on Mayan culture accussed him of racially stereotyping the Mayans in the movie "Apocalypto."

It happened last night at Cal State University at Northridge in the San Fernando Valley. Gibson was speaking to a film class about his movies, and several members of the Mayan community came to hear the famous director.

After Gibson's presentation, the crowd was allowed to ask questions. Alicia Estrada, an Assistant Professor of Central American Studies at CSUN, challenged Gibson, asking him if he had read about the Mayan culture before shooting the controversial film. Gibson said he had.

Estrada persisted, stating that representations in the movie that the Mayans engaged in sacrificial ceremonies and had bloodthirsty tendencies were both wrong and racist. Estrada and others tell TMZ that Gibson exploded in anger, responding, "Lady, F**k off."

We're told Gibson also became extremely angry when members of the Mayan community protested on how they were portrayed in the film. The emotional Mayan members were escorted out of the room, and we're told Gibson screamed a parting shot -- "Make your own movie!"

UPDATE: Gibson's publicist, Alan Nierob, told TMZ, "This person was a heckler who was rude and disrupted the event, so much so that the event organizers had to escort her out." For the record, Nierob, not Howard Rubenstein, reps Gibson.

People are so jealous of this man. That's the only way to explain stupid moronic remarks like Davie C's. Pure jealously and envy.

Anyone to make a great movie like "The Passion of Christ", and all the others is a sheer genious. I'm a big fan. But Gibson should know better and should stay away from college campus's where liberal idiots thrive, as these same liberal dreamers can't make it in the real world.

Mel was right. This professor was just one of many in the university establishment who wish to rewrite history for political correctness, whether it is covering up a bloodthirsty history of a tribal peoples, trying to push forward a afro-centric view that the Egyptians were black (they were white/black mixed) or refusing to debate on the validity of Islam & Muhammad while bashing and deconstructing Christianity.

Yes, it is really annoying that every little insular group is "insulted" by how they are portrayed in movies, tv, etc.

Iranians in 300, natives in King Kong, Mayans in Apocolypto, Italian Americans in mob movies, Sopranos, etc, muslim terrorists in any number of films.

Why can't people grasp a very simple concept, not all Italian Americans are mobsters, but a fair number of mobsters are Italian American, not all muslims are terrorists, but a fair number of terrorists are muslim, I am sure in the history of the Mayan culture, there were those that abhorred the practices depicted, but that does not mean that they didn't happen, so everyone just get over themselves, stop taking themselves so damn seriously and lets all keep our eyes on issues that matter, and not quibble over entertainment.

Would someone at TMZ like to report David C to the authorities? Just can't agree someone needs to die for inappropriate behavior. It's so easy to be so tough (stupid) on the net.

I thought the movie was very entertaining with many thoughtful elements. The Movie humanized the small village whom I'm sure carry the same genes as the Mayan descendants. Mel made his usual violent moviie where there is good vs evil. Simple but entertaining. I did notice the Spanish came and they "saved" the hero in this movie. I would have thought that would be the contriversy and the real beef.

Way to go Mel. Most of these whiners need to be told where to get off. As to the comments about killing you, Ha, just a bunch of keyboard warriors who talk tough but pee their pants when face to face.

Read: "The Lies My Teacher Told" and you will find that half the things you learned in school are not true, the book is written by a white person so you won't think that they are being bias. Like after Thanksgiving the Protestants gave the Native Americans blankets full of small pox so they would die and take the land (Bio-warfair). Native Americans did not believe in "owning the land" you took only what you needed. Or the wild dogs that ripped the Native-Americans apart because they could not be in-slave that is why they had to buy slaves from Africa. And for your information Native-Americans did not just cut someones head off to take their land. And in many cases they took on other people and excepted them in to their tribe instead of killing the captures. Sacrifice to the God's is a whole different story in which many wanted to be sacrificed to the God's. In many cases the Spanish and English did the beheading and made it seemed like Native-American tribes did the killing.

Mexicanos Come Mierda

This taco bender is a "Mayan culture expert?"

This filthy macaca should go back to squatting on her fat ass on a dirt floor pounding tortillas on a rock.

Everyone wants to rewrite their own history and erase the bad parts. The Mayans practiced human sacrifice on a grand scale. Their own hieroglyphic writing depicts this clearly.
Were the Mayans any worse than anyone else's ancestors - NO. Europe and Asia are filled with great atrocities.
The Mayans did what they did - that's history - learn from it.

I saw Apocalypto and I thought it was very good. I don't see why this lady thought it was racial sterotyping. It was good guys vs. bad guys, simple as that. It's a movie, not a documentary. It's meant for entertainment not as a teaching tool.
