Debra Opri has just issued the following statement regarding the legal fees she charged Larry Birkhead:
"One can only imagine from whom and for what purposes these stories were started. I cannot comment on unauthenticated documents which were disseminated to the media under suspicious circumstances, and which are covered by the attorney-client privilege. I can assure you, however, that all of the fees and expenses incurred on behalf of Mr. Birkhead were reasonable, necessary, and appropriate, given the complexity and magnitude of this very high profile case that was litigated in two different states and a foreign country. Out of respect for Mr. Birkhead, I cannot comment further at this time."

I never cared for her too much but she has finally showed her true colors.
I believe that she is a a player looking for whatever she can out of this like everyone else is .

So what if I'm a lawyer. I have found lawyers to be more honest that most of their clients. Most often a client will lie to their own lawyer and then the lawyer advances that arguement and then the lie is caught. Who told the lie? The client or the lawyer that repeated it?
As to Opri's fee. I fail to understand this obsession on this list with the failure of Birkhead to be at a dinner and still be charged for it. If Opri was working in his case and ate dinner and took someone to that dinner related to the case why is it improper to charge it to the case. The sole restaurant mentioned that I have seen is in the Bahamas, not LA. She was traveling related to the case. I am sure that her fee agreement allows her to charge expenses related to the case.
As to the ABA ethics rules. These are model rules. The ABA is a voluntary association and far less than half of the lawyers in the US belong. The ethics rules that apply are first California and second the jurisdiction in which she is practicing at the moment (think FL or Bahamas). If a lawyer is admitted pro have vice (for a single case) they agree to be bound by the local rules including ethics.
Birkhead wanted to hire a pit bull and he got one. Now he needs to pay for it. Anyway, any man who banged AN deserves what he gets.
The real interesting story is on the Marshall money side. Read the 9th Circuit opinion and you will learn the probability of success is slim at best. There are four or five solid basis listed for overturning the decision and the US Supreme Court did not address those. I doubt the baby gets a nickle from a judgment. There maybe a settlement, but just wait and see.
For over ten years the blood sucking Howard k. Stern and Anna Nicole did their best to rape the Marshal estate. now the blood sucking Howard K. Stern and who knows how many other attorneys will spend the next ten years raping Anna Nicole's estate. that poor baby will never inherit a dime from her mother.

As previously stated, Birkhead wanted the best and that cost big bucks. It's all about the retainer agreement... very unlikely a lawyer of Opri's calibre would risk her reputation for $500K.

Wow , wow,, hard to believe this bill with all the seemingly exhorbiant charges that seem to have nothing to do with what Larry needed or hired this money/publicity hungry scumbag for! I pray she never gets anywhere near that amount and that she receives what she truly deserves, and that is many stations in HELL!

she knows LB isn't the daddy---------then did some math. A percentage of nothing is nothing..........so voila LB was straight billed. I am not saying HKS is the dad, but LB isn't either............AND she probably figured out how unethical o'quinn et al were being in his so-called investigation and obtaining of affadavits (which are now being re-called by some)
Larry Birkhead chose a high profile attorney to obtain publicity. He has been chasing publicity (including strategically being photographed outside ToysRus with armfuls of toys) etc all along. He requested the law firm to register the company Goodnight Sweet Anna Baby and then when there was a hue and cry about it he then disowned it, saying he did not sign anything!
To my mind, although he comes across as being Mr Nice Guy, I consider him to be an opportunist and not as honest as most people think.
He should pay the bill!

i think it was on march 13, 2007 fox news had news flash where debra opri, larry birkhead and ron rale spoke outside in front microphones and after opri spoke, ron rale spoke for a few seconds defending stern then stated that stern, birkhead and someone else had booted him out of his hotel room one night to talk. i think this was news to opri, they ended speaking to reporters and a couple days later she is no longer representing him. anyone else see this because no one talks about it.
I do think Larry is the daddy, she looks like him. He must know something to be
fixing up the nursery!!! If by chance he isn;t and that would not surprise me at this
point, then Grandma Virgie should get her until the Daddy is found. She needs to be
with family not Stern, and he needs to get out of that house, he is a leach.
