"A.I." Finalists Fuming Over "Sanjaya Situation"

While most of the country may have fallen in love with "American Idol" wannabe Sanjaya Malakar, there is one group that is finding his growing popularity a tad irritating -- his fellow "A.I." contestants!

An inside source revealed exclusively to TMZ that some of the remaining "Idol" hopefuls are annoyed that the vocally-challenged 17-year-old continues to advance, while other "more talented" singers get sent home. We're told the contestants are not-so-much mad at Sanjaya, but at the situation, which finds websites like votefortheworst.com and satellite radio host Howard Stern urging fans to keep Sanjaya in -- simply as a joke.

We're told the "Idols" don't find it funny, since it's their future being toyed with. Our source adds that the contestants find it troublesome that they all work so hard to pick the right song and rehearse each week, but it appears that all Sanjaya really has to do to move forward is to show up wearing a scrunchie.

TMZ contacted an "Idol" rep, who had no comment.

691. I'm sorry but I just don't believe the people voting for Sanjaya are Americans. I truely believe that this smells like the work of a organized Middle-East group trying to force (no talent) Sanjaya to be an "American" Idol. Since there not accepted in this Country they are living vicariously through him, News flash!, even if he wins thru your desperate attempts; That won't make him an American Idol (NEVER) But I can garuntee him a life-time of humiliation, and the constant (BUTT) of every late-nite T.V joke!

694. When you think about it, it doesn't really matter now. All of the contestants still in the game are going on tour no matter when they get thrown off, and all of them but three (Melinda, Blake, and Jordin) have no chance of becoming the American Idol anyway so why does it matter in what order they get thrown off?

Sanjaya is terrible, but it is kind of funny watching him butcher his song every week and then think Simon actually meant it when he said "Incredible" last week. He won't be there much longer anyway.

698. Sanjaya is a plant on the show. Most of the highest rated shows have some kind of scandal to keep people watching everyday. The young girl in the audience in the crowd that was crying for Sanjaya had been trying to get on a television show. So now, she has gotten her fifteen minutes of fame. Look at the Jerry Springer Show. Then Geraldo when he got hit in the nose. The View with Rosie and Star Jones. Greys Anatomy, Nancy Grace,even the news shows, Court Tv with the O.J. Case, O'Reilly Show, Howard Stern Show and Dr.Phil. We should be paying close attention to what our politicians in Washington are doing about the war in Iraq!

699. I for one am really disgusted with American Idol. I used to watch it everytime it came on.

I think he is making a mockery of American Idol, and it's really not fair to the people who are really talented.

701. People are so pathetically stupid. This comment: [We're told the "Idols" don't find it funny, since it's their future being toyed with]... Come again? What do you mean, "their future"? So, am I to take it that Sanjaya is controlling THEIR future? That suddenly Sanjaya is GOD?

The REALITY is if Sanjaya is continuing to win votes, then Sanjaya stays on. It has NOTHING to do with the other "idols" (which, I hate to break it to them, they AREN'T). Sanjaya would have been a HUGE idol in the 1970s (if he had been white). Back then you had cutsie, effeminate, tonally-challenged asexual things that became GIANT pop stars for a few songs or an album. Nobody cared about their "singing." And so, now, we're all supposedly "enlightened" and people are angry because cute, adorable Sanjaya is stealing focus? Get a life, freaks! IF those other "Idols" are talented, REALLY talented (in SOMETHING, even being CUTE), they have a chance to make it. Sanjaya has NOTHING to do with their futures. If another idol wins, does that mean that idol destroyed the futures of the others?

703. THIS IS THE WORST SEASON OF A.I.!!!!! I'm almost ready to pull the plug on the show altogether. I agree that perhaps the judging shoud be done by the judges as America has taken this joke way too far. When Gina was dismissed and not Sanjaya, I was truly appauled. Unfortuantely, it appears A.I. can't do anything about it as the vote is up to the american people. I still think Melinda Dollittle will win, but Sanjaya needs to go and it needs to be soon. The tryouts weren't even good this year. A.I. get a grip!!

704. I haven't voted on AI since Carrie Underwood was the pre-selected winner in Season 4. This year is just plain nuts. Sanjaya and Haley should have NEVER made it to the top 12, let alone the top 24. An AI insider told us that whoever gets the most text message votes is kept on the show because it makes money for AI and Cingular/ATT. Last year, it was Taylor who got the most text message votes each week. The big difference is that Taylor has TALENT.

Sanjaya is fun to watch, isn't afraid of anything and does make a bland season watchable. Outside of Melinda, LaKisha, Blake and Jordin, there is no really good singers. Blake is a good entertainer and a mediocre singer at best. Jordin has spunk. LaKisha oversings but is good. Melinda is awesome but seems to old for AI.

I will not attend the concert this year. I don't want to spend good money to listen to the cruise-ship warblings of Haley or Chris Richardson's poor imitation of Justin Timberlake. What a shame. I think AI has jumped the shark this year, and is going to pay dearly for it.

705. I find this to be extremely hilarious. Sanjaya is exactly what this how needed seeing as how the Idols go on to mediocre careers anyway, might as well just add a mediocre finalist as well.

I find it even funnier that the Idol finalists think they will really have a respectable career ahead of them. Underwood might have wonsome awards, but in terms of respect from her peers, I seriously doubt she has that.
