Sanjaya's New Look: Orphan Chic

"American Idol" "singer" Sanjaya Malakar made his way to the Record Plant recording studio in Los Angeles on Saturday, looking like he'd lost his way from an alternative high school production of "Oliver."

Wearing a bucket cap, brass medallion, and charming black purse, the ponyhawked singer recorded some tracks for this week's show, which will feature crooner legend Tony Bennett.

That's right, Tony Bennett, 80, and Sanjaya -- sharing the same stage. In 2005, Bennett received a Kennedy Center Honor, but working with Sanjy has to be a career highlight.

48. A singing competition???! This whole thing cracks me up! I totally watch American Idol for entertainment and maybe if we're lucky, there may be some talent sprinkled in there. Sanjaya probably is laughing back at everyone because he knows it's one big joke and is taking full on advantage of the publicity! That's probably why he wore the faux-hawk, ha ha! I love it that someone sings just as bad as I do!!

Who cares who votes for who, anyway? Last year's Idols were way better. Chris Daughtry is by far the best singer of all the Idols!
This year the talent is good but not great. Haley (Disney Princess McPhee clone) gets worse each week, which I totally find hilarious, Jordin is good, but reminds me of (a prettier) Ugly Betty with an Amazon body, Blake beatbox is short and not as great as he thinks, Phil is creeping me out every week with his vampire-like eyes, Chris R. (I -wanna- be- like- Justin)is cute, but that's about it, Gina's voice is a dime a dozen, and the two R&B singers (Lakisha-bad wigs, Melinda-no-neck) are good, but I am sick of that style (Dreamgirls, Jennifer Hudson, Beyonce...) of singing.
The best part of Idol, of course, are the bad auditions! So now I'll go back to my karaoke machine and practice singing my fave karaoke songs, "Livin' On a Prayer" and "Like a Virgin"so that I too, may one day be on Idol and live my dream, ha ha! I LOVE THAT THIS SHOW GETS WORSE EACH WEEK!!!

49. All you haters are just jealous, you can't compete with a 17 year old and just got to try to knock him down to your level. The dude is making $250,000 for a summer tour; what is in your wallet? He is a trendsetter, not a follower. My guess is that we will be seeing Sanjaya in other media after American Idol is over. Does it make you feel powerful to throw insults at people behind the protection of your computer monitor?

They could age Justin from the show Ugly Betty and put this mess in.. and get him off of AI. But I like the actor who plays Justin.

55. TMZ: I don't understand why everyone is bashing this young man. He has a lot of personal style. He is doing a lot more with his young life than miserable Paris Hilton, that you seem to chase and photo at every turn. Leave this guy alone.... he just might have something.
