Sanjaya's New Look: Orphan Chic

"American Idol" "singer" Sanjaya Malakar made his way to the Record Plant recording studio in Los Angeles on Saturday, looking like he'd lost his way from an alternative high school production of "Oliver."

Wearing a bucket cap, brass medallion, and charming black purse, the ponyhawked singer recorded some tracks for this week's show, which will feature crooner legend Tony Bennett.

That's right, Tony Bennett, 80, and Sanjaya -- sharing the same stage. In 2005, Bennett received a Kennedy Center Honor, but working with Sanjy has to be a career highlight.

61. I love Sanjaya--hes the most interesting and colorful person in this entire competition full of boring singers, with the exception of Jordin.

He actually can sing if you watched his audition. I think he's going to bring it tonight with the Tony Bennett song.

64. I sense that the anti-Sanjaya community is very frustrated. This community claims that Sanjaya can't sing, he is humiliating himself, he will never get a recording contract, he will never sell a CD, the joke is on him, ........ etc. etc. This community doesn't seem to understand the fact that the joke is on them. Realize how frustrated you people are. You people have hatred in your hearts. It shows in your comments. Sanjaya have brought out the real you. You probably thought previously that you are not prejudice but upon reading many of your comments I could only conclude that you are. So the joke is on you. Tony Bennett thought Sanjaya is a good singer. If you watch his comment in www.youtube.com you can tell that Tony Bennett was sincere when he said it - and he is a legend who made singing his career. Surely his credibility makes him a better judge when it comes to singing - much more so than the three judges in AI and surely more qualified to judge than any of the Sanjaya haters. You haters are so frustrated - Sanjaya is eating you up and not a damn thing you can do about it. You will claim you will never watch AI again. But I will assure you right now with 100% certainty that you will continue to watch it this season and thereafter. I feel sorry for you, A 17-year old boy who has done nothing bad to anyone has brought out the real you. He has the opportunity to chase his dreams and he is doing it so with out trampling on anyone. So why hate him. If you don't like him don't vote for him. Its that simple. Don't hate anyone who hasn't done anything bad to you, and don't let this show eat you up. Its just a show.
