The Anti-Sanjy Conspiracy

Sanjaya MalakarSome serious "American Idol" viewers are still fuming over the fact that Sanjaya Malakar not only remains on the show, but that he wasn't even bottoming out. Now someone has conjured a plan that could help rid the "A.I." stage of any additional hairrific performances ... er, other than the one scheduled for next Tuesday.

At voteAGAINSTtheworst.com, viewers are assigned to contestants for voting purposes -- based on which state you live in -- every state is then assigned to a performer, leaving none dedicated to Sanjaya.

The only way to make this work is for people in these states to actually vote. Unfortunately, since it's been proven that enough people are voting for Sanjaya to keep him on, Fanjayas will have to be converted in order to boot the mildly talented Malakar, whose rendition of "Cheek to Cheek" this week caused Irving Berlin to centrifugally spin in his grave.

65. I just find it hard to believe that the people in our country are this spiteful. There have been some good people voted off the show because someone thinks this is funny. This kid is being made fun of and it doesn't bother him. It just shows you that there are more people in this world that thinks that everything should be a joke. And these are the people that will someday be running this world. When they were doing auditions for the show there were people that was "ok" but they were looking for better than "ok" so these people didn't make thru the 1st round. Now, we have people voting for a kid that has no personality and can't sing because someone wants to make a mockery out of American Idol. Well...you people doing this have no morals and you'd obviously rather do the wrong things than the right. In the end, the joke will be on you rather than Sanjaya or American Idol.

MALAKAR FAMILY OFFENDED BY CRITICISM OF SON SANJAYA

Hollywood – The parents of controversial “American Idol” contestant Sanjaya Malakar held a press conference Monday to express their outrage at criticism of their son’s talent. “We are a very successful family that own America’s biggest telephone voting services company with major clients including the Fox network,” said Malakar’s father Vivek. “It is outrageous that anyone would question the ability of our very talented son Sanjaya.”

Sanjaya’s parents Vivek and Vidhya immigrated to the U.S. from India in 1972 and started a small telecom services company called MalakarTelco. After over 25 years of modest success, the company hit it big in 1999 when it started handling telephone entries for “Who Wants to be a Millionaire?”

Since then, MalakarTelco has worked on numerous game shows and reality shows that include audience participation. Its clients include the Game Show Network, CBS, and Fox, where it tabulates phone voting for all of the networks programs with an interactive voting element.

Vivek Malakar admitted that he was surprised when his son auditioned for “American Idol.”

“We always assumed Sanjaya would join the telephone voting business like the rest of us, but he’s an independent spirit,” the contestant’s father explained. “I told him then and there that our entire family would use every resource at our disposal to help him win, no matter what it takes.”

Vivek’s wife said the Malakar family has been shocked at the reaction of some critics to her son’s success.

“When people criticize Sanjaya, saying he doesn’t have any singing ability or stage presence and his gender identity is vague at best, it’s an attack on our entire family,” said Vidhya Malakar. “But the Malakar’s have always succeeded based on merit alone. Just ask our good friends and satisfied MalakarTelco clients Peter Liguori, president of the Fox network, or Tony Cohen, CEO of Fremantle Media, the producer of hit shows including ‘American Idol.’”

In response to questions from several financial reporters, Vivek Malakar said MalakarTelco has not yet renewed its contract with Fox as many had expected.

“I want to wait until this season of ‘American Idol’ is finished before we figure out the exact terms,” he said. “So far the performance has been great and if the show ends on the right note, as we fully expect it will, I think we’ll be able to offer a steep discount to our friends at Fox in exchange for the loyalty they have shown us.”

68. Your votes hardly matter. The total vote count is never shared with the public. So the show's execs can make them whatever they want, and keep/boot whomever they want. Follow the money. It's all about marketing and publicity. The more controversy/buzz that is stirred up, the more people's attention focuses on the Idol product ... and the more exposure the ad sponsors get ... and the more Idol can charge for ads ... and the more the sponsors' product must cost to cover the advertising costs. So just remember that all your indignation, hand-wringing, whining, and frenzied support is all playing into the master plan to have you and I pay more for our products at the cash register. Thanks.
