Gay Fairy Tale Weddings OK at Disneyland

Disney Fairy Tale Weddings and HoneymoonsStunning news from the Happiest Place on Earth today: Disney brass has decided that all people, both gay and straight, are now welcome to purchase the "Fairy Tale Wedding" package at Disneyland and on Disney cruise ships.

Per the AP, "The company said it made the change after being contacted by a gay couple who wanted to use the wedding service, which offers ceremonies at Disneyland in California, Walt Disney World Resort in Florida and Disney's cruise ships."

(Memo to Bob Iger: Synergy opportunity! Ordain Isaiah Washington as a Universal Life Minister, and let the healing begin!)

To tell the truth, we're disappointed, but not for the reasons you might think.

Yes, of course, we're dispiritedly bracing for the inevitable hateful and disgusting harangues from the lunatic fringe of talk radio, wherefrom disparaging and offensive punchlines will emanate.

And we're not looking forward to it, but have come accept the inexorable truth that for Bill Donohue or some other religious fulminators, Disney's decision is a not-to-be-missed opportunity to decry another rending of the fabric of American moral this or that.

Yes, we're even prepared for the South Park-ing of this uniquely fraught cultural war moment.

But really, what disappoints us most is that shows like "Queer Eye for the Straight Guy" and "The L Word" had fraudulently lead us to believe that gay people are inherently more fashionable and stylish than heterosexuals. The fact that an actual gay couple actually wanted to use Disneyland as the location of their nuptials contravenes such a noble postulate.

There is one bright spot: At last, we truly are all equal -- if only in our tackiness.

31. Uggghh....the moral decline continues. MILF's, Gays, seems like everything that's wilsly outside the norm on sexuality is being given free reign.

How disgusting this country is becoming. Now, I can understand why the Taliban and Al Qaeda opposes the western civilization. I still can't understand why they want to blow themselves up, but I can understand their utter hatred for our way of life. We're so shallow and all we care about is sex...gay, perverted, whatever kind of sex.

32. Would somebode who opposes gay marriage please spell out any plausible way in which it will cause harm?

Please don't say it will "damage marriage" unless you explain what that phrase means. Didn't divorce "damage marriage" considerably?

And please don't quote supernatural beings unless you can produce them to speak for themselves.

33. "...the way this country is going right now..."??? "...the moral decline..."??? Give me a break! If it were up to them, the Religious Reich (you know, the people that LOVE to define morality for everyone, while divorcing left and right and diddling little boys) would have anyone not like them put into concentration camps and quietly exterminated.

There are a lot of THINKING people in this country that are struggling to get the U.S. back on the track of freedom and equality for ALL after what will be, 8 years of the fascist "King" in the White House.

So, BRAVO Disney! No matter what the motive behind their decision, bravo!!

34. There is no place in the bible where it clearly states gay people should not get married, you have to extrapolate it from various passages. However, I would like to have the right that is clearly given in scripture. Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, David, Solomon- all the big names that God liked best, they all had lots of wives (and a few concubines on the side). No place in scripture are they condemned for this. If you say that back then there were more women than men, then you'd have to accept the logic that if there are more men than women, then women should be allowed to have multiple husbands.
If you're going to use the bible as your guide in life, then I'd like to remind you that in the book of Mark, chapter 16, it clearly states that people who truly believe in Christ can drink poison and it will not hurt them. So go mix yourself a tall glass of arsnic and chug it so you can be sure you are a Christian. If you say that passage isn't meant to be taken literally, then you are admitting that we get to interpret the bible. I'm telling you that the Holy Spirit told me how to interpret the scripture and he said gay marriage is just fine. So if you have a problem, take it up with him, he's the one who's being bipolar. I say hooray for Disneyland.

35. "You're not Christian by any chance?" LOL! The only countries in the world that even consider allowing things like this are majority christian countries. Why all the Christian bashing?

36. I can't imagine why anyone -- gay, straight, lesbian, bisexual, transgendered, whatever -- would even WANT a Disney wedding. Honeymoon, yes. Wedding, no.

37. Why not, its clear that the gay "subculture" has a place. If it were not for them we would have not have the right to choose who we want in government. We don't "have" to like them or vote for them and guess what's coming next. Those of you who think its "ok" to not rock the boat by staying quiet have only yourself to blame. 3% of the people with mental problems are leading the rest of to country. Give yourself a slap on the back!

39. Great Job Disney!

As far as where this country is headed I can only hope it is away from the Dark Ages of the Christian Taliban.

41. Like it, accept it or not folks, it's God's world and His word finds homosexuality a sin, wether gays like it or not! It's not about bigotry. Everyone absolutely has the right to choose how they live their lives. They will absolutely have to answer for their actions as well. His love is never ending and He has more than enough grace and acceptance available to all, but we have to choose His way. My prayers go out to those who know Him not. God is and always will be in absolute control.

42. I'm not gay but I completely support their decison. Why do you homophobes feel so offended? The gays arent asking you to marry them ... they are in love with someone of the same sex ... who cares. They arent hurting you ... they are people too ... they're just gay. Same sex marriage should not be prohibitted anywhere. Go Disney!

43. Fiduciary reasons or otherwise, I'm happy that Disney has made the decision to open the ceremony to people who walk less traditional paths. A little more joy and love in the world just can't be a bad thing.

44. "I don't wanna see 'them' on my family vacation"? How rediculous!! Nobody cares about your bigotry. Yes, it may be a money opportunity, but it's also admirable. Gays shouldn't be excluded from being wed just because some people are uncomfortable with them. Get over your petty insecurities.

45. And God looked down and said it was bad, then smote every Disneyland, thereby cursing all weddings that took place there so that no one could dare say that they mocked God. As we all should know, God will not be mocked, by anyone or anything.
