Gay Fairy Tale Weddings OK at Disneyland

Disney Fairy Tale Weddings and HoneymoonsStunning news from the Happiest Place on Earth today: Disney brass has decided that all people, both gay and straight, are now welcome to purchase the "Fairy Tale Wedding" package at Disneyland and on Disney cruise ships.

Per the AP, "The company said it made the change after being contacted by a gay couple who wanted to use the wedding service, which offers ceremonies at Disneyland in California, Walt Disney World Resort in Florida and Disney's cruise ships."

(Memo to Bob Iger: Synergy opportunity! Ordain Isaiah Washington as a Universal Life Minister, and let the healing begin!)

To tell the truth, we're disappointed, but not for the reasons you might think.

Yes, of course, we're dispiritedly bracing for the inevitable hateful and disgusting harangues from the lunatic fringe of talk radio, wherefrom disparaging and offensive punchlines will emanate.

And we're not looking forward to it, but have come accept the inexorable truth that for Bill Donohue or some other religious fulminators, Disney's decision is a not-to-be-missed opportunity to decry another rending of the fabric of American moral this or that.

Yes, we're even prepared for the South Park-ing of this uniquely fraught cultural war moment.

But really, what disappoints us most is that shows like "Queer Eye for the Straight Guy" and "The L Word" had fraudulently lead us to believe that gay people are inherently more fashionable and stylish than heterosexuals. The fact that an actual gay couple actually wanted to use Disneyland as the location of their nuptials contravenes such a noble postulate.

There is one bright spot: At last, we truly are all equal -- if only in our tackiness.

76. Hey PJ,

You are not reading correctly. The bible says that being gay is an abomination to God. That would pretty much EXCLUDE gays from not only being married, but also being in God's grace. Did the spirit that was leadng you show you that?

In the NEW TESTAMENT, it is said that if a man be a deacon of the church, he should have but one wife. The concubines as you put it from the earlier days was at a time when mankind had not evolved much as a civilization. You see, the more time goes on, the more we learn, or we should learn: being led around by unnatural or fleshy desires is something we have yet to master. But I am sure that day is coming.

ALSO, Mark 16 says that there will be a GROUP OF PEOPLE who will take up snakes, and drink poison and not be injured, some of those folks live in Georgia, they call them Snake Handlers, and you can go on any Sunday and watch them... there is NO CONTRADICTION if you read it right!

77. Look people, it is all about economics. I think it is great that Disney will nopw cater to the Gay community. But it is not that big of a deal. A wedding or commitment ceramony is nothing more than a party to celebrate an event . . . get over it! LOL . . . what I find interesting here is that bloggers have said that the 'gay lifestyle' is distroying the moral fiber of America . . . OH PLEASE! ! ! ! !
Look at the Headlines . . . these moral murderers are mainly straight.
I am tired of people blaming us (gays) on thier own faults . . . trust me ther is plenty to go around for all of us.
Just get happy with yourself . . and allow others to do the same,

78. I think it's a great move on Disney's part. By excluding gay marriages Disney was making a morality judgement that should be left for God. And all children who are priviledged enough to walk around at Disney should feel blessed that they can see all types of families there. Your children deserve to

Re: previous comments: Do any of you really believe that there were no gays at Disney in the past when you were walking around with your kids?

Studies have shown that most people who respond with disgust toward homosexuality do so because they are uncomfortable with their own homosexual tendencies. So perhaps some of you need to come to terms with your tendencies (which don't necessarily make you gay).

Also, over 90% of people who sexually abuse children are straight men, so who would you rather have staying in the hotel room next door?

79. Thank you once again disney for treating people like myself as equal as any other citizen of this great country. Your mission statement is and always will be to give equal oportunity to all to have a place to go and have fun and relax. You are the true meaning of being christian like.

80. I would much rather see happy gays at Disneyland than angry bigots.

81. I couldn't care less WHO gets married at Disneyland, DisneyWorld or on a Disney cruise ship. Disney ain't what it used to be....too plastic, too impersonal now. Don't have any desire to go again.

82. What is the problem with gays marrying at disneyland? if they are not trying to force you to marry them, then leave them alone ...

To each there own

Sex is in the bedroom, so unless you are watching them why do you care who they are with

84. This is social engineering with no regard for the consequences which will redound on the rest of society. It's purely for the gratification of the adults involved. The term "Fairy Tale" says it all.
It's a disgrace this news was released on Good Friday. This is one of the reasons the Lord went to the Cross.

85. I think this is abosolutely wrong. It's difficult to explain the facts of life to a toddler, now I have to explain this to my son. It's almost impossible to take a family on vacation and everyone knows how observant children are....I can't even begin to explain.

86. I could care less who is allowed to have a wedding at Disney. Why would that affect any of us..unless you were a guest. You don't have to care...you won't be invited to witness it. My comment is that let it be clearly understood that the last thing a Disney wedding is "tacky". Tacky only happens when the couple wants to make it tacky. On the contrary, it is extremely pricey and considered a desirable invitation to such an event. Compared to many weddings I have been to...it has to be one of the most elegant. Especially if it is held at the Beach Club Resort or Grand Floridian. I have been to weddings at The Plaza in NY and Disney put on a better event.

87. I think it's great! Gay, Straight, Black, white as long as you are in love it shouldn't matter who gets married. Disney is really breaking barriers in society with this. GO DISNEY!

88. What is with the "moral decline" comments? Get over it people. What gay men and Lesbians do is no different than what heterosexulas do. Find the right person, fall in love, and be committed for life. Is that immoral? No, but denying others happiness is.

89. “You are entitled to DISAGREE. But you are NOT entitled to HATE other people”

Correct.
Hate is wrong.
Both sides of this argument can and do exhibit hate.
Both are wrong.

90. @ #3-- Your taste in hate should be outlawed along with your mum.
