Wrong-Way Driver Charged in Deaths of Director and Son

TMZ has learned that the L.A. District Attorney has just charged the drunk driver in the Pacific Coast Highway wreck that killed director Bob Clark and his son Ariel.

Hector Velazquez Nava, 24, was charged with two counts of gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated; one for each of the victims, and he's being held in a Los Angeles County jail in lieu of $100,000 bail. If convicted, Nava faces up to twelve years in prison.

The "Christmas Story" director, 67, and his 22-year-old son were killed in a horrific crash on PCH in the early morning hours on Wednesday, when their Infiniti was struck by Nava's GMC Yukon.

UPDATE: Nava has just pleaded "not guilty" to the charges. His bail was increased to $200,000. He remains in custody.

22. I disgusts me that a person under the influence of drugs or alcohol can kill 2 people and only get (up to) 12 years in prison. He'll be out a lot sooner..... pisses me off so bad!!

23. Ben there aren't 50 Million Illegal residents in this country you Moron! More like 3 million. In a country that has a population of over 300 million that's about 1 percent of the nation's population. News organizations are sensationalizing these crimes by Illegal residents because it's a controversial topic now. You're less likely to be a victim of a crime by an illegal resident than you are by your everyday typical Legal U.S. Resident. If memory serves me correctly, the "Son of Sam" was a legal resident.

Illegal residents, can't collect welfare because they're undocumented citizens. You can't collect welfare unless you have a legal status in this country. Poor, White, Single, Mothers, according to the U.S. Census Bureau.

What I think is so bad is that the goverment in this country is so concern about second hand smoke and ban it from public places but will not ban drinking alcohol in public places in till they start taken this matter serious there will be so many more people getting kill ! If I were the family for these people I would sue the state that allow this to happen.

29. Ben, I'm with you on that issue. If you're in this country, you should wave the American Flag. It's OK to be proud of being a part of both countries. I also don't believe in the radical, "this was our land first rhetoric." It's good to understand the past, but we have to deal with reality. You can assimilate into this country without abandoning your native culture. With that said, people have to be accepting of diversity. It's a two - way street. I'll come to a compromise with you in regards to numbers. Let's say..... 10 -15 million. Fine that works. I have to go. Great discussing this issue with all of you. God Bless. Vader.

Enough of this insanity...12 years...what a farce. These drunk/drugged out people get away with MURDER.

Everyone needs to contact their state legislators and tell them..."We are mad as hell and we won't take it anymore!"

The next person killed by a drunk/drugged person could me or you or your loved ones.
Of course the reality is is that our legislators don't have any "balls." Everytime someone is killed, everyone complains but nothing ever gets fixed.

People have to do something to fix the law so that these people have to do real time...long time. So that these people know what they face for their actions that results in harm to another.


The penalties for first time offenders has to be much, much harsher and become more so should they make the choice to drive while drunk/drugged.

We need to hold our legislators feet to the fire and remind them that they got the job by our votes, next time our vote may not be their.
