Casualty of Don? Deirdre Imus Ditches Book Tour

This won't be a pleasant week in the Imus household.

TMZ has learned that Deirdre Imus, wife of Don, has bailed out of two high-profile live appearances on "The View" and "The Martha Stewart Show," in the wake of Don's "nappy-headed ho" slur that has caused a national furor.

In fact, the whole book tour's been nixed.

A rep for Deirdre's publisher, Simon & Schuster, says that the entire promotional tour for "Green This! Volume One: Greening Your Cleaning," which was timed to coincide with the book's debut yesterday, has been postponed indefinitely. "Because of the pressure that the Imus family has been under," says the rep, "family is her first priority at this time."

This morning, several major advertisers pulled their ad dollars from the Imus show, and he's been suspended for two weeks from CBS Radio and MSNBC for his unseemly remarks about the Rutgers University women's basketball team.

61. I'm wondering how many of the girls at Rutger's would have even known what he said? I don't think college kids (of any race, gender, sports affliation) even give a hoot about his show. Plus he is one really early in the morning. I have a tendancy to believe Al Sharpton has something to do with this hoopla. Every time I see him he is hooting about something. Geez!!! IMUS apologized immediately. Give him a break!!!!

63. If you watched his show you would know he is not a biggot. It was said in comedy not like Michael richards did, not like Mel did, it was in comedy . It sounds like you did not see the show and just heard about it. Believe me they were just doing comedy. yes bad taste but different as night and day from Michael Richards

66. look at number 60 and THROW AL SHARPTON IN JAIL FOR THE FAKE RAPE HE MADE UP TO PUT IN PRISON AN INNOCENT WHITE MAN. Instead he gets air time and the media gives this fake reverend and tax exempt phoney black KKK a forum. WHAT HAS SHARPTON DONE TO STOP RAPPERS FROM DEFILING THEIR OWN SISTERS? 0 NOT ONE THING .. ZERO .. SHARPTON SHOULD BE SCRUTINIZED NOW BY US AND THROWN OUT OF THE AIRWAYS AND OFF THE MEDIA AND THROWN IN PRISON .. HE SINGULARLY BY LYING IN THE TUANA BRAWLEY FAKE RAPE CASE .. RUINED A MAN'S ENTIRE LIFE WHERE HE WENT TO JAIL FOR WHAT DIDN'T HAPPEN AT ALL, HE LOST HIS WIFE, HIS FAMILY, HIS JOB AND HAS NEVER HAD A GOOD LIFE. Let's put him on the air and interview him and give him money to live.. he is the one Al set up.

67. E.Alneda -- so eloquently put (comment #27) -- and right on target. We all need to be held accountable for our mistakes, regardless of intent -- and those in the public arena must be held to higher standards. The reverends' grandstanding is shameful because their actions and comments denigrate the very citizens they claim to advocate.

Imus' final role was as MSNBC's damage control mouthpiece. I don't buy for a minute that he's sorry. Freedom of speech - YES, I live for it -- but not if it's used to incite racial dissension. It takes a lifetime to prove yourself, and only one second to destroy that trust.

His wife is collateral damage who knew what she was getting into when she married him. There can be really no surprises here.

OK, off my platform now ...

68. MSNBC, I WILL NEVER WATCH YOUR CRAPPY SHOWS. YOU, TOO, PROMOTE SELECTIVE RACISM AND SEXISM! The ONLY reason you are firing him is because of the money. You could care less what he said! You are a bunch of WIMPS who can't stand up to Al Sharpton!

71. If Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson can't take an apology from Don Imus over such an insensitive joke because to them it was racially motivated. Then what are they going to do for the young men from Duke who were falsely accused and had their lives ruined.....oops I forgot the accused in this instance was white not black so it couldn't possibly be racist!!!

72. As far as Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson, I'll say one thing. You can lead a horse to water but you can't make him drink and you can take Salem out of the country, but you can't take the country out of Salem. In other words, you can put these guys in an elevated position but you can't take the fight out of them. You can't take the stupidity out of them and you can't make them act dignified. They want to jump on the bandwagon for the first fight available. As soon as they open their mouths, you can't understand a work they are saying, and it's laughable to all the whites of the world. That said, Imus is an ass and his wife should divorce him and find a real man.

74. This just gets more and more delicious! How ironic that after all these years of Bush bashing, it was the I-Man's own PC-looney hypocrites that slit his throat! I also love what this does to that punk Dan Abrams over at MSNBC. Talk about having the rug pulled out from under you. Oh, this is too, too funny! The folks at Fox must be popping the champagne!

75. This entire thing is ridiculous! Look at it, honestly. The media bashed and bashed and got the 3 Duke boys free and a prosecutor in trouble. What about all the other dirty prosecutors and police arrests? I would like to know why these 3 boys got so much support! Is this a race thing? Would it have happened if they were black? Ok, next: We have the bashing night after night of poor Howard K. Stern of the Anna Nicole drama. He has been called a murderer on almost every show on tv, even by these so called "attorney anchors". Yet, this is OK? Even if he is at fault, isn't he innocent until proven guilty too? Or are the rules different here? Then, let's move onto Imus.....well, is he the only radio guy that has made a comment that is distasteful? I think not. Yet, hypocritical Fox has acted! On crap, isn't this just about advertising? The thinking that better pull the show, to keep the advertising support for other shows! Do we really need all this drama over these comments, especially after Imus apolotized? This is absurd, it truly is. The black Rev. Sharpton, a "man of the cloth", what a joke. He ought to take some lessons from the Amish folks on forgiveness and use his time on tv to broadcast the beliefs he is supposedly being called Reverand for. Disgusing. Everyone on television has lost it. I am sure. Sham on all of you. Imus, hold on you will survive all of these bimbos. Soon one of them will do something wrong and your story will fade. PS. I will always believe the Duke boys did something to this woman! But someone knew one of the Daddys!!!! They just got too much support and I do not believe there has been justice for any of these folks.
