Sanjaya MalakarSanjy's grown some facial hair, and he wants the world to know it!

If you watched last night's J.Lo-mentored edition of "American Idol," you probably noticed Sanjy's freshly-fuzzed face. Our inside source tells TMZ that "It was all [Sanjaya's] idea."

Perhaps the little songbird is trying to address media scrutiny of his "masculinity" by adding his own bit of Tom Selleckness.

While it was a compelling attempt at butching it up, it looked to us like his face was a little dirty. Sanjy warbled a version of "Besame Mucho" (kiss me a lot) and batted his doe eyes at the swooping camera. Did the facial hair help? You decide.

32. Why is everyone hating on him? I just don't understand. Is it because people are voting for him? No he is not one of the strongest singers, however, somebody likes him. MTO get over it and leave him alone!

43. I think this started out as a joke and now the joke is on American Idol. The dislike for him is so bad that you lost millions of watchers. The ratings keep going down. The winner should be Dolittle, she far passes anyone else. I will no longer watch the idol till I read he is gone and I take many friends with me that can't stomach looking at this kid anymore. One would think that the parents would make him step down and let the true winners win. I know being top 10 he will be on tour this year I have a feeling that tickets sales will be down also.
Let him and Willam Hung hang together, that's the way America really see's it. He's a joke a real big joke.......

45. I don't understand why some of us are still writing cruel comments about this poor kid. He's doing his best with the opportunity given him by AI. I thought he sang "besa me mucho" quite lovely, though not as masterful as Andre Bocelli's version. Given time and self confindent, his vocal style will definitely improve.

I don't think he "flirts" with the camera. I think the producer or whoever directing the show, told him and OTHERS to do so. Stop knocking him down already! Why didn't you guys say anything when Haley flirted shamelessly all over the stage? Her ever disapperearing wardrobe? If her shorts get any shorter, I'm sure some pervert out there will jerk himself silly. Her SO-SO singing style? Well, I guess she is a white hot chick & Sanjaya just an average looking Indian/Italian guy...who is trying to do his best to please EVERYONE!!!

Who is going home tonight??? I can tell you now that it won't be SANJAYA!!!
