Don Imus Canned by CBS Radio -- Ho, Ho, Ho

Imus is firedDon Imus was just fired by CBS Radio in the wake of his "nappy-headed hos" slur, meaning he will no longer be on the air, either on television or radio, effective immediately.

Imus was originally suspended by CBS for two weeks after he made his remark last week on his radio and television shows. MSNBC took the step of pulling his TV simulcast off the air yesterday, but public outrage swelled and advertisers disappeared in droves.

In a statement announcing the firing, CBS chairman Leslie Moonves said:

"From the outset, I believe all of us have been deeply upset and revulsed by the statements that were made on our air about the young women who represented Rutgers University in the NCAA Women's Basketball Championship with such class, energy and talent. Those who have spoken with us the last few days represent people of goodwill from all segments of our society – all races, economic groups, men and women alike. In our meetings with concerned groups, there has been much discussion of the effect language like this has on our young people, particularly young women of color trying to make their way in this society. That consideration has weighed most heavily on our minds as we made our decision, as have the many emails, phone calls and personal discussions we have had with our colleagues across the CBS Corporation and our many other constituencies."

31. Okay now I want to see them go after all the rappers who say whatever the hell they want in their music.

32. This is so wrong. He made a rude remark and said "I'm sorry" a million times. Where does the Rev come off. He has certainly put race before this religion, that's for sure. My bible preaches forgiveness and not judging. Rest assured if the statement had been white trailer trash, it would just be another day. How come it's okay for the rappers to sing about it and talk to each other with those words, but Imus was punished. I firmly believe to be treated equal you have to act equal.............. There goes my morning show on and the CBS news.
What a big to do about a MISTAKE.

34. Bye bye freedom of speech. Double standards.

35. Watch out everyone. The speech police are alive and well in the United States of America. No one worse words have ever been spoken than what Don Imus said. Please. This is utterly ridiculous. That this can happen is truly frightening.

36. It's not a matter of being "unlawful," it's a matter of being horrifically racist and mysogynistic. CBS and MSNBC are both just taking care of business, responding to a huge public outrcy that would result in them losing big bucks if they didn't fire this caveman. Plus, this arse has been around the block long enough to know that you can't spew that kind of hateful garbage on the air and expect the majority of the American public to think it's funny anymore. This is 2007, not 1957. Everyone's evolved but Imus and apparently those of his listeners who find that comment funny. Maybe he'll get funding from some kindred spirits and start an "Imus and Andy" radio show. I'm sure there are some out there who would actually find that funny too!

37. cancelling HBO because of what Bill Mehr called our president. Jesse Jackson should apologize to Duke Lacross Players. Rosie ODonnel can lie about what happened to the twin towers and not apologize?

What BS!

Double Standard!
I hope Imus Goes Satelite..............and so will I....screw the advertisers who chose to cancel contract if his head wasnt served on a silver platter!

This country is goin to hell in a handbasket!

Snoop Dogg got probation for breaking the law!!! Federal charges and no jail time????? WTF!!

Outraged!!

38. It's okay, we know the game here. Make an example of him in order to quell free speech. Pretty soon , it will be a hate crime to criticize your president, practice peaceful demonstration, in general, just call a spade a spade. Do you Americans see your freedoms slowly being taken from you yet? Imus will return, trust me! Read this TMZ,ABCCBSNBCMSNVB, Subversion of the mainstream media is possible (now more than ever, it is encouraged by people who think) , as most are now going outside the mainstream media now for their information.
I'd like to see a side by side comparison of what Imus has done for people in general compared to Sharpton and Jackson? I'd bet there would be no comparison whatsoever. Sharpton and Jackson are nothing more than glorified extortionists, the world knows this, but the media are using them as their champions as they are are an exquisite diversion away from what is really happening in the world.

43. Imus fans:
He will be back. He will most definitely be picked up by someone else or satellite radio where he can go bonkers.

Everyone else:
This firing HAS TO BE part of other stuff he has said. Believe me. When they cancelled the televised portion they mentioned talks with other employees. He has insulted other races before. They didn't just use this one incident. They had other times he was out of line in the back of their minds. Yeah, yeah..FREEDOM OF SPEECH. That does not guarantee that your employee won't feel that you stepped over the line people. That's like a worker calling a customer at a store an asshole and when their boss fires them, they say "free speech". Yes, we have free speech, but that does not mean you can violate a code of ethics a job may have. In the end, it was not just this one insult. He has said some jacked up things in the past. He's meant for satellite where he can flip out.
