Don Imus Canned by CBS Radio -- Ho, Ho, Ho

Imus is firedDon Imus was just fired by CBS Radio in the wake of his "nappy-headed hos" slur, meaning he will no longer be on the air, either on television or radio, effective immediately.

Imus was originally suspended by CBS for two weeks after he made his remark last week on his radio and television shows. MSNBC took the step of pulling his TV simulcast off the air yesterday, but public outrage swelled and advertisers disappeared in droves.

In a statement announcing the firing, CBS chairman Leslie Moonves said:

"From the outset, I believe all of us have been deeply upset and revulsed by the statements that were made on our air about the young women who represented Rutgers University in the NCAA Women's Basketball Championship with such class, energy and talent. Those who have spoken with us the last few days represent people of goodwill from all segments of our society – all races, economic groups, men and women alike. In our meetings with concerned groups, there has been much discussion of the effect language like this has on our young people, particularly young women of color trying to make their way in this society. That consideration has weighed most heavily on our minds as we made our decision, as have the many emails, phone calls and personal discussions we have had with our colleagues across the CBS Corporation and our many other constituencies."

92. Great news!!!!!. When will white people GET IT? What he did was very offensive to a group of young woman for no reason and simply based on thier race and sex.. What if he referred to one of your kids in this manner. Would it be okay and funny. Wake up. Also, I am sick and tired of everyone saying its okay to use language as he did because Black people use the same words IN RAP. NOT ALL BLACK PEOPLE AGREE WITH THE LANGUAGE USED IN RAP MUSIC. NOT ALL BLACK PEOPLE USE THE N WORD. Just because some Black people use it DOES NOT GIVE ANYONE THE RIGHT (ESPECIALLY WHITE PEOPLE) TO USE DEGRADING RACIAL SLURS AGAINST ANYONE.

93. What your hero said about Contessa Brewer a white woman. He hates everyone..................

On Friday morning Imus called Contessa Brewer a pig and a skank. "That skank has to spend three hours with makeup in the morning...That's why they have those big double-doors there at MSNBC, you know, so they can get her fat ass in makeup." Imus also said Contessa is "dumber than dirt.

96. What I would like to know is when are these two holyer than though individuals going to start stepping up when their "brothers/sisters" say disrespectful comments about whites, asians, etc. Seems they have a double standard going on, their own race uses the same terms in songs, etc. and thats fine, but god forbid someone uses freedom of speech to say what is on their mind and he looses his job. This country is really going down fast with these two idiots leading the African American Communities and the ALF-CIO. All they do is use an incident to create a frenzy so that they have air time. I say boycott them and the ALF-CIO, this country will be better off without their stupid asses

99. ONCE AGAIN, AMERICA BOWS TO THE MINORITY DECISIONS....NOT THE MAJORITY. DO YOU KNOW WHAT HAPPENS TO A COUNTRY WHO WHIMPS-OUT BECAUSE A FEW FOLKS GET INSULTED? NO SURPRISE.

"POLICTICALLY CORRECT " IS ANOTHER WORD FOR "UNTRUTHFULNESS."

100. I fully agree that one cannot go on the public airwaves and spout hatred and prejudicial statements..who the hell wants to listen to that? I also agree that should work both ways and include the rappers who insult and demean everyone...especially women. If they were so quickly able to fire Imus...and I agree what he said was very stupid...then the huge record companies (Sony, Arista, etc.) should immediately stop selling and promoting the rap artists who degrade women and use demeaning and slanderous language as well. You can't have it both ways! The bottom line is it is all about $$$$. Both NBC and CBS did not cancel him until just about all of their advertisers pulled out. The record companies will continue to market these "gangstas" because they make millions for the company. What a double standard and a bunch of hypocrisy.

101. For all of you that think is is ridiculous...look up some rap lyrics and post them here or send them to CBS or MNSBC, along with the artist and record label....boycott their ho bitch asses...........DOUBLE STANDS PEOPLE, DOUBLE STANDARDS...mark this day on your calander as the last day of freedom of speech....for a select few.....

102. Oh people. Get over it! He's rich. He isn't suffering because of this. He'll have another job by next week. Let it go. I'm sure you have something better to do with your time. I know I do. Bye.

103. I think he shouldn't have said that, but he did... so get over it. I feel the same way as many of you out there. why don't rappers and comedians get fired as well. Every other word that comes out of a rappers mouths are curse words. They degrade women by calling them "bitches" and "ho's" but yet everyone still listens and buys their records. why is it that black comedians can poke fun at everyone(except Suge Knight) ofcourse, but let another race poke fun at a black person here come Jesse and Al, all ass hurt. The only reason Imus was fired is because he was an old white man poking fun at black women. would he have gotten fired if they weren't black?

104. Imus had an opinion about everyone, and voiced it without regard for others' feelings. I often cringed in the way he even treated his own sports reporting staff member everyday, when commenting harshly about his "fat ass," etc. This kind of critical spirit is never a positive in the workplace or anywhere really.

There were, however, many good things about Imus' program that I did enjoy, and he did bring attention to the Veterans' needs recently, as well as being entertaining for the most part.

He probably should have been reigned in long before this...
