Don Imus Canned by CBS Radio -- Ho, Ho, Ho

Imus is firedDon Imus was just fired by CBS Radio in the wake of his "nappy-headed hos" slur, meaning he will no longer be on the air, either on television or radio, effective immediately.

Imus was originally suspended by CBS for two weeks after he made his remark last week on his radio and television shows. MSNBC took the step of pulling his TV simulcast off the air yesterday, but public outrage swelled and advertisers disappeared in droves.

In a statement announcing the firing, CBS chairman Leslie Moonves said:

"From the outset, I believe all of us have been deeply upset and revulsed by the statements that were made on our air about the young women who represented Rutgers University in the NCAA Women's Basketball Championship with such class, energy and talent. Those who have spoken with us the last few days represent people of goodwill from all segments of our society – all races, economic groups, men and women alike. In our meetings with concerned groups, there has been much discussion of the effect language like this has on our young people, particularly young women of color trying to make their way in this society. That consideration has weighed most heavily on our minds as we made our decision, as have the many emails, phone calls and personal discussions we have had with our colleagues across the CBS Corporation and our many other constituencies."

1187. And if you believe it`s the sponsors...............well what can I say other than Al & Jesse have won in their little charade yet again. Research those men indepth and see if it really was just a democratic choice of advertizing.

1195. more than a CROCK Mikey. typical example of abusive power.....the way I see this is media matters opened a real can of worms and everyone is positioning themselves (even TMZ wonder who their parent company is)_....everyone media matters finds offensive has a target on their backs as this is about FREE SPEECH (or lack of) and not decency ( which we never will obtain as HATE & GREED premeates this world) I am quite sure total decency exists only in the next life & only ift we live decently in this one.....Mediamatters.org (check it out) coming soon complimentary book burnings all invited & encouraged to attend...

1196. Sierra that's what you do when your a satirist.....I'm such a fan if Imus insulted me I'd be honored that he even payed attention....the man is an ICON not a RACIST....he took shots at everybody & in his defense the offended accepted his sincere apology....I guess that's not good enough, do a REAL job on somebody & don't apologize i.e. Sharpton & Tawana Brawley....do you recall that? plus deadbeat did NOT pay the damage award to Pagones....

1197. interesting question ms m. who indeed is the parent company of TMZ? And for all who are so offended by Imus why aren`t you ranting about and protesting other celebs who`ve made their fortunes off of having foul mouths like eddie murphy, richard pryor, bernie mac, chappelle, and many other comedians? Or is a white foul mouth the worst evil on the planet?

1198. And you know for a fact his ancestors owned plantations? What if he`s a second generation American with ancestors from Italy? lol Seriously, not all white family histories go back that far and not all whites back then owned plantations or slaves. But broad generalizations aside, Imus was merely a pawn in a rather warped racist game. Accusers and acusee all guilty of the same thing and we the public we`re invited in to view the insanity of it all.

1199. I am sorry that in this country free speech is no longer tolerated. Why is there a double standard between black & white cultures that allows rappers to say terrible, horrible things about women... regardless of race. It is demening to women of all races and that type of rap music should be banned by the FCC from the air waves, MTV and BET. No wonder parents have to put parental controls on their TV set. Too bad it can't be done to radio,cd sales and ipods. Saying that this is a white issue just does not cut it, you know what I mean dawg!!!
Until the black CEO and top executives who sign these rapper songsters, including white, purple, yellow or green, nothing will change except for Don Imus loosing his job. Too bad Al Sharpton has a short memory span... he is forgetting what he tried to do to 4 white men of falsing acussing them of rape. Oh yeah, Jesse Jackson was in on that deal too. He ruined the reputation of a young, promising lawyer. These 2 men have done nothing to help the community or people they represent. They both live high on the hog, while people go to bed hungry in this country. People get real... take a reality check, what Don Imus said was very negative but taking his job solved jack squat. Until the black communities stand up for themselves, they will continue to be exploited by their own kind who have no regard to who they hurt by vicious lyrics. They don't have respect for themselves. It is not right for any man or woman of any race to demoralize the women of this country who pass on their legacy to future generation.
