Imus: "There Is No Malice in My Heart"

With his suspension not taking effect until next Monday, Don Imus took to the air today for WFAN's 18th Annual Radiothon to try and raise money for a good cause -- and to apologize. Again.

"I am horribly sorry I said it," he bleated this morning. "I know how it hurt these kids and they're going to tell me. But everyone knows what I've been doing for 30 years. It was a joke." Oh yeah, he's a riot.

MSNBC announced yesterday that it was dropping its simulcast of the "Imus in the Morning" radio show, after his disparaging remarks about the Rutgers women's basketball team. CBS Radio has suspended Imus for two weeks, effective April 16.

16. People move on! It's funny how two black men got so many white people fired up! The majority of black people could care less about Don Imus, women's basketball, or Al Sharpton. The majority don't even know who Imus is or what he said. They have more important things to worry about.

17. Alright already!! Imus said something awful, he apologized and lets move on. Talk about chuzpah!! Jesse Jackson talks about "detoxofiing" the air waves. Does this mean we can expect to see BET, Chapelle and so many more taken off the air too? What started in the black community has desensitized alot of people. But Sharpton and Jackson - who died and left them in charge??

18. What about Jean Simmon's racist jackass comments toward non-jews on his show? I dont see A&E cancelling him...perhaps TMZ's readership should look in to that! Sometimes to make a point, you must get down to the same lowest common denominator as your target audience uses and if it takes utilizing ebonics utilized in oh so many high quality rap tunes, then so be it. Imus's popularity will soar, and the masses will continue to look away from whatreallyhappened.

19. DON, STOP APOLOGIZING -- ACCEPTED BY US ALL !! If I were you though - just so no one gets the wrong idea and decides to sue you, TODAY ALL minorities sick or even mostly dead children should be sent home and from today on not one thin dime of your hard erned money should be ever given to any minioity for any reason.

20. I cannot believe the way MSNBC prematurely fired Imus. I didn't realize Al Roker had so much power. ABC has managed to keep Rosie O'Donnell. How much does Imus have to apologize? No wonder MSNBC is in last place among cable news. Americans are quick to forgive and forget. This would have blown over after the two week suspension. What he said was wrong, and the basketball team does deserve an apology. But I bet none of them could even pick Imus out in a lineup! They don't care who he is or for that matter what he says...the media just made a mountain out of a ho-hill.

21. When I first head Don Imus's show I thought he was phobic about homsexuals, blacks, fat people, kids....the more I listened to him I realized that he is just a cantakorous curmudgeon with a big heart. He has done an unbelievable amount of good for kids and wounded veterans. I believe him when he says he was just joking. Unfortunately, in our politically correct world joking about stuff like this is no longer acceptable. I think he should be reprimanded and not fired. There is a double standard.

22. HE has said he was sorry, what more do you want from the guy. Man I just can't believe this. Sharpton should get his boys to stop signing those words that seem to be alright for them but not for others! What's with that????????

23. Anyone who thinks those words were an ATTACK is an ASS. He APOLOGIZED, so QUIT being a whining little baby. QUIT acting like you EVER before in your life GAVE A CRAP what Don friggin Imus said. Enough already with your ranting and raving. Big damn deal. I agree it was disrespectful, but people say stupid things sometimes. And when they apologize, you should get over it, and MOVE ON IN LIFE. My goodness.

24. Just what church or congregation are Rv Sharpton & Rv Jackson head of or are their titles gotten by mail.. As long as Sharpton & Jackson keep the Imus issue in the press the longer no one pays any attention to the Duke case and how one of their one people destroyed many lives; and if Mr Jackson recalls when the Duke case first came to light he jumped to the victims (?) defense and offered her money for her education..So Mr Jackson what happened ? I had the opportunity (?) to meet Sharpton years ago and I can tell you honestly that he hides behind his color and incites to riot.. Both Sharpton & Jackson need to get honest jobs and do something significant for their people something that they will be remembered for not start riots !!!

25. Your jokes are hilarous, too, TMZ. You are right in the same league as Imus on that score, and leave it to people with no other argument to attack the person and not what the person said. Of course, you have the power to find good or bad pictures, depending on your slant. Yes, TMZ, you are SO MUCH better than Don Imus and you are proving it right now, but no one (including me) is going to call for you to be taken off the Internet or silenced because, unlike Don Imus, YOU have freedom of expression. At least he has tried to apologize, but there is no forgiveness for some. I think it is funny now that every terrible thing Imus has ever said (and he's said many) are going to be thrown at him. Yet all these years he was allowed to express himself freely but now all of a sudden, he's run out of freedom of expression. I guess that's a real wake-up call for all Americans. WATCH OUT!!

29. Mr. Imus - I was no fan of your show and think you should get a new hair do but I think this has been blown out of all proportion by opportunists that use every excuse to stir up racial tensions! It was just a stupid joke not near as offensive as walking through a store and hearing the disgusting rap crap that is on the airwaves today! Good Luck to you.
