Imus: "There Is No Malice in My Heart"

With his suspension not taking effect until next Monday, Don Imus took to the air today for WFAN's 18th Annual Radiothon to try and raise money for a good cause -- and to apologize. Again.

"I am horribly sorry I said it," he bleated this morning. "I know how it hurt these kids and they're going to tell me. But everyone knows what I've been doing for 30 years. It was a joke." Oh yeah, he's a riot.

MSNBC announced yesterday that it was dropping its simulcast of the "Imus in the Morning" radio show, after his disparaging remarks about the Rutgers women's basketball team. CBS Radio has suspended Imus for two weeks, effective April 16.

32. Not only Sharpton should be fired, but Jesse Jackson for HIS anti-semitic comments, Howard NOT-K Stern, Louis Farakhan, and the list goes on.

I do NOT condone Imus' words, however, he has been doing this for 40 years! Howard Stern and Robin Quivers have been even more vile and disgusting, ON TV as well as the radio, than anyone I've ever heard! Is it because Robin is Black that what they said was acceptable? Black on Black insult???

What Sharpton and Jackson have caused is an even greater racial divide due to the double standard and inequity. They do more harm for racial harmony in this country than any stupid sound byte aired by crass comedians.

33. #29 WHAT.EV.ER. And did you know that the Imus Ranch cost over 50 million dollars of which was donated funds and that he only takes a dozen kids a year and even with this, all the monies are donated. It wasn't even his idea. It was Dierdre's idea and she is IMO a piece of crap who ran after a RICH OLD FOOL. Paybacks are a MO FO. So is Karma baby. Sit and spin. All.Day.Long.

34. Quite frankly, not being a Don Imus fan, I haven't heard what/how he said what was said...however, I am sure I would not agree with his lauguage even if, as I suspect or think may be possible, there was no derogatory intent. Yes, he is a riot at times and there are many who enjoy his humor or lack there of.

In any event, I see absolutely NO reason to deprive him of his livelihood! That is ridiculous and it is scary to think that a select group of individuals, along with any outraged media outlet or podium holder can reek such havoc as to incite such an injustice. What really bothers me more is that the fear of anyone of us being disliked by another who can get the mainstream media behind them and raise holy heck , will have the power to destroy any of our lives. This is insane! And, those among us who think it is okay in this instance may find ourselves on the other end of the stick and then what? Oh, excuse me for forgetting........it is all about the double standard thing. Almost forgot about that.

Yeah..just look at the DUKE case to see how alive the old double standard is. Where is the outrage at the very real injustice done to those boys and their families. Oops! Forgot again...let's see ..it is a minority telling lies and destroying lives..it is the officers sworn to uphold the law and the legal community who is all about 'the truth' who, are instigating an egregious wrong. THAT makes all the difference. Pardon me for not remembering that one. Oh, and let's not forget..it was three white young men who have had over a year of their lives taken and suffered the real possibility of a lifelong imprisonment, their white families who are and have suffered financially, the white men who were kicked out of school and lost their reputations, as well as, their athletic scholarships. Never fear though, didn't I hear the minority young woman who is the front runner here has received a full scholarship? And no fear of any criminal charges, to boot. Hmmmmmm...I smell a rat. Usually, mental status is determined by psychiatric experts AFTER charges have been brought..not by legal/law authorities to protect the guilty.

Getting back to Imus, it seems to me there are appropriate measures possible to ensure punishment and, hopefully, a lesson learned. This (media onslaught) is over the top...way over the top.

Basically, can't we disagree with out spewing hatred and wishing/fighting for the complete destruction of others. No matter what or how one may believe....this is NOT the way to overall peace and understanding. It will never work. Especially when those with egregious sins are casting the stones.

For this way of allowing things to go on, as well as, the carrying on of such behavior.....this world is going to he** in a handbasket. We would all be better served to truly work together for right rather than use any perceived or real wrongs to advance our own agendas for the pleasure of a select group.

Geezz........Kat

35. Don stop saying your sorry, enough. People like Al S, and Jessie J. and that type will never stop and will just continue as they have their own agenda. They are not the moral authority over any of us. They should tend to their own problems within their own race who constantly do this kind of thing. When they get that stopped they will then have the right to judge others. You did a wrong thing. Now it is up to you to change. You and your wife both could take a hard look maybe at how you come across to the general veiwing audience who often have felt you thought you were above and better than. In spite of how much you do for others you did do what you did. Now just go and deal with the girls who you really offended. Stop saying to the world your sorry it is not making a difference with any of the so called moral authority figues who are standing in judgement of you, and espically not most of the liberals who have consistently appeared on your program to get thier own agenda out there..

Enough of the sorry it is starting to sound like a broken record. MSNBC did not let you go because of their values and most people know that so just go on from here.

37. Never fear - The I-Man will return, stronger than ever!! Also, as of late yesterday when MSNBC announced they had canned The I-Man, I quit watching. MSNBC was one of my favoritie channels - WAS. Those days are over. I do believe they are going to lose many, many viewers over this ridiculous debacle. Of Mice and Men....??? Definitely MICE the way they let Sharpton and Jackson intimidate the hell out of them.

39. I BELIEVE THAT PEOPLE SHOULD BOYCOTT MSNBC, NBC, AND REFUSE TO PURCHASE FROM P AND G, GM, AND STAPLES, AND THEN TEAR UP OR CANCEL THEIR THEIR AM. EXPRESS CARDS. I AM NOT AN IMUS FAN, BUT THIS IS RIDICULOUS AND PEOPLE NEED TO LET THE NETWORK AND SPONSORS KNOW THAT AMERICANS ARE FED UP WITH THE JACKSON'S AND SHARPTON'S HYPOCRITICAL MORAL AUTHORITY ACT. ENOUGH IS ENOUGH!!! I WONDER IF IMUS HAD BEEN SPEWING MORE COMPLIMENTARY BS ABOUT HILL & BILL, IF THIS WOULD HAVE BECOME SUCH AN OUT OF PROPORTION DEAL ... IT DOES MAKE ONE WONDER IF THOSE TWO (HILL & BILL) ARE NOT ALREADY PULLING THE LIBERAL NETWORK AND BIG BUCK LIBERAL CORPORATION STRINGS. MMMmmmmmmmmmmm.

41. what's with jesse jackson's lips--is he deformed or does he just not know how to shape a mustache?

Posted at 3:44PM on Apr 12th 2007 by pleeeze!

42. #23 is correct just because someone does a few nice things can they do anything else they want to just because they say they are sorry? I think he should apologize to the parents of these kids for callling them names. Why just apologize to grown women who you wronged? These kids are just going to a camp they don't deserve to be cursed at and I think the parents should ask their kids what names they were called by him. If he had called my children "little bastards" he would have my wrath and the news media would have reported it as much as this ho stuff.
