Lets Get This Party Started
Kate Not Fit for a Prince?

Prince William, Kate MiddletonIt's hard out there for a ... prince. Prince William and longtime girlfriend Kate Middleton have split. The 24-year-old prince and his older ladyfriend (she's 25) met while studying at St. Andrews University in Scotland, and have been seen around Britain doing all of those things regular young folks do -- you know, going to polo matches, attending fancy dress balls, and vacationing in obscure tropical locales.

According to a friend of the couple, the split was "amicable," reports People. Reps for the prince refused to comment.

Penelope Cruz to Adopt?

Penelope Cruz Poor Penelope Cruz. Now that her BFF Salma Hayek has gotten herself knocked up, Penelope is feeling left out of the baby game.

The oh-so-single Cruz told the Spanish-language edition of Marie Claire magazine that she wanted to have kids and that, like Angie Jolie and Madonna before her, "My life won't be complete if I don't adopt."

"Of course I want to have kids. I want to have my own kids, but also adopt," she said.

When asked about potential baby-daddies, Penelope was, well, mum.

Kelis "Acted Like a Diva"

KelisKelis is proving that she really is "Bossy." She pissed-off organizers of last weekend's White Party in Palm Springs, who claim that she showed up nearly two hours late, and then only performed two songs. One event producer went so far as to suggest that the IRS be called -- "Kelis demanded her $25,000 payment up front, in cash. But then she didn't perform. Someone needs to alert the IRS – because we know she won't." Event organizer Phil Lobel said that, "Kelis acted like a diva."

For her part, Kelis' rep Tracy Nguyen told the NY Post: "There were many missteps behind the scenes which created a less than suitable environment for any artist to perform. Because of her love for her fans, Kelis made the decision to take the stage, against any advice not to do so."

Party favors: Robert Evans Fire Scare...First James Bond Dies...Jon Cryer to Wed...

A raging fire engulfed three houses near Robert Evans' home in Hollywood. The fire came within inches of his property line but Evans, along with his gardener and assistant, managed to keep the flames at bay with garden hoses until the fire department came. ... Barry Nelson, the first James Bond, died this weekend at the age of 89. He played James Bond in a one-hour TV adaptation of "Casino Royale" in 1954. ..."Two and a Half Men" star Jon Cryer (we love him best as Duckie from "Pretty in Pink") will wed longtime girlfriend, TV journalist Lisa Joyner, in Mexico in June.

16. I wonder...maybe one of you royal experts can enlighten me.
What's the latest on Queen Elizabeth handing over the crown to Charles? Or is that pretty much not expected until she dies?
I like Queen Elizabeth..her mum, as well. But Charles? Not as long as he's still dragging around the Rottweiller, no way, should he ever be King. CanNOT imagine that dog sitting beside Charles on a throne. ick

17. Interesting add and perspective from you, Beth C. There's no doubt that British Upper Class mores differ from more traditional marital values, evidenced by centuries of documented royal watcher history...and odd that Diana didn't know as she too came from a moneyed lot
and her family spent time socially with the Royals and their crowd. I still would think it would bother A.P. Bowles underneath it all, no matter how high he held his head or appeared to be in the know. Perhaps not, as you think. As the end of it all unfolded I got the impression that Charles was dealing with many regrets, and seemed to look in every photo op as though he were carrying the weight of the world on his shoulders. That went away eventually. The British tabs will be all over this, and the story will come out in bits here and there; of course the reasons for the split are currentlyl just speculation. They all have people who spin things, and the palace has world class Public Relations people who are mega-sensitized to maintaining the monarchy's existence, so even then the bits that come out may or may not be entirely accurate. Also, the British paps have readers to entertain...

18. Queen Elizabeth will be 81 this month and only now is she beginning to include Charles in her most important royal "duties". She believes she was annointed by God for life to reign over the United Kingdom and will do so. I feel that even if she becomes infirmed she will retain the monarchy and make Charles a regent until her death. I believe as long as Phillip is alive she will reign with as much strength as she can. Once he is to pass, if before her, she will certainly feel the loss keenly and it may be then that she makes Charles a regent. He will only become King upon her death. The only possible change in this situation is if Charles dies before his mother, in which case William will be appointed The Prince of Wales and possible regent. One thing that has been made certain is that despite her royal status, by marriage, Camilla will NOT be given a royal funeral. It will probably be a private event, maybe televised but certainly not a state occasion. This may or may not change should Charles take the throne. And make no mistake, she can be called Princess Consort when Charles is King but she will be the Queen.

19. You know he might be future king but maybe Kate realized there some Saudi Prince out there with more money.

20. I don't want to vomit about this subject , like some self-appointed Royalty expert, but I am a Royalty writer and history teacher. Having said that, there is a history here that must be mentioned. A Royal cannot just "date" a woman for years and years without expressing intention. When Charles was courting Diana, he was told by Phillip that he must either marry or break up with her as he was building her hopes, subjecting her to the intense scrutiny and essentially "ruining" her for future relationships. I would imagine that the Royal Family put the pressure on William to marry Kate and being wary and wanting to be his own man and mindful of his mother, the decision was made to set her free. She more than likely wanted children and to have her life settled and he has made his comittment to the military life. He could not have dated Kate for another five years and then suddenly decide she is not the one or not suited to royal life. It just isn't done. I realize that the monarchy no longer requires that the bride be a virgin but the longer William leaves it the more likely he will not find a bride that may or may not have an ex come out of the woodwork to say "i had the future queen". Elizabeth 1 had it right...stay single.

21. Kate will find a fabulous guy who's handsome, rich, smart and she can lead a normal life. She will be jet setting in the same style without a powerful family controlling her life. She has the right to privacy which won't be permitted with the Royals.
Kate, cry your eyes out and then move on. You would have ended up as miserable as Diana in the long run. You're beautiful, talented and possess loads of class and style. By the way, those tiara's look look painfully heavy and will inevitably give you a migraine headache,
Good luck and be happy,
Muffy

Posted at 3:43PM on Apr 14th 2007 by Kate can do better! The Royal family would control her

22. I got the impression too that Diana had become a spin expert on her own, and was swaying public sympathy even as she was being friendly with Hewitt and others. I still think Harry looks more like Hewitt than Charles. I thought her spin had more to do with a woman scorned as opposed to A.P. Bowles winking more worldly approach. I do think Camilla was and is a much better match for Charles. She is very well like in the Royal circle, and has been painted as witty and pragmatic. Diana, on the other hand, seemed like a romantic.

23. Diana had many flaws along with her most wonderful qualities, but the "blame" rests with Charles for marrying her in the first place. Camilla is the better match but they are saying that now that the element of danger is gone from the situation he is again gettting restless. Who is to say? He does look happier than ever but Diana still looks as dead.

Posted at 3:56PM on Apr 14th 2007 by Beth C

24. She does. (look just as dead.) The question is, as always, why. I have a bit of trouble with the conspiracy theory regarding her death; sometimes if it looks like a duck, it's a duck. The driver WAS under the influence. If her boyfriend's wealthy father can't get to the bottom of it, perhaps there is no bottom, and it is what it appears. If he can't find out, we certainly never will.

25. Just an opinion but to me Diana orchestrated her own troubles when she chaffed against Royal Protection services. If there had been governmental security details on duty that night there is no way I believe she would be dead, regardless of accident or consipiracy. To entrust your life to two guys in the employ of Dodi Fayed, who was rash and impulsive and disregarded the stern suggestions of his detail, was foolish to say the least. She might have wanted her freedom and rebelled against her minders but in her position as mother of the future King she owed it to her sons to maintain her security measures.

Posted at 4:17PM on Apr 14th 2007 by Beth C

26. The disregard of the security detail surprised me at the time. I sometimes had the feeling that it was a foolish game impulsively decided upon simply to outwit the paps. In hindsight, costly. She was naive to assume that she could go back to living the life of a private citizen with no extra concerns, but again, hindsight is 20/20. Perhaps they had done this before with no repercussions. It will remain a Kennedy-esque mystery if Sr. Fayed has anything to say about it. Perhaps in 100 years info will surface. Or not. The grassy knoll thing still purports different theories so many years later, with no solidified conclusion.

27. Kelis? Who in the world is that!

28. This is my third try, why don't you publish my comments ? People are very gullible. Diana knew BEFORE the wedding that Charles was in love with Camilla. But she desperately wanted to become Queen of England. When they announced their engagement, a reporter asked them: "Are you in love?" to which Charles answered : "Whatever love means." Does that sound like a man in love ?

Diana ruined Charles' life, she made him miserable. Also the second son is the child of James Hewitt, they look like twins. What a thing to do to a royal family. I never believed Diana was sincere with her "causes", but she certainly seemed to adore being photographed. Now Charles and Camilla look so supremely happy, I am happy for them, they deserve happiness after all that misery. I hope they have a long and happy live together, maybe even as King and Queen some day, although I do not wish Queen Elizabeth to die soon.

29. Although Harry looks like Hewitt, he also looks very much like a young Prince Phillip.
You won't be seeing the three of them on Maury any time soon, though.
