Did Snobby "Sahara" Stars Sandbag Movie Budget?

We all know beauty isn't cheap -- but looking as good as Matthew McConaughey and Penelope Cruz costs a bloody fortune!
Penelope and Matt
According to a special report from Glenn Bunting of the Los Angeles Times, the people behind the legally troubled 2005 movie, "Sahara," shelled out more than $350,000 to keep the actors fit, fed and and fabulous -- leaving the film's budget, well, in the dust.

In the report, set to be published tomorrow, Bunting claims he has obtained official documents verifying the outrageous expenditures, which include:

Penelope's hairstylist -- $135,550
Penelope's dialogue coach -- $125,804
Matt's Personal trainer -- $67,977
Matt's Personal Chef -- $48,893

With costs like these, it's no wonder the film reportedly needed a colossal $130 million budget!

16. You know what's reallt sad? I work way harder than they do and I don't make a fraction of what Penelope's dialogue coach does. I teach preschool. Everytime I read something like this I get mad. I like in a 3 bedroom condo that I split with 4 people, I share a room with a bratty 20 year old for $500 per month. So when I take myself out on a date I have to budget it. These people don't know how that feels. I find it irritating.

17. Movies make tons of money whether they are good or bad. I really like Penelope and Matthew and I think the money was well spent. We watched the movie the other night.........GREAT movie.......we both loved it and would watch it again.

18. Seems the only reason the producers are paying these expenses is because the egos of stars demand it. These aren't, specifically, work related expenses. These are expenses like my dry cleaning - I have to pay to look presentable for work and wouldn't expect my employer to pay these costs.

19. If you know anything about the film industry, when a contract is written, celebrities almost always have a "ryder" which is a list of things that they need when they are working on a project. It is likely that all of the things written in the article were written into the ryder, so these expenses were unlikely a surprise to production. If the Producers were better at their job, then they would have taken this into consideration before hiring two huge named actors. The film did not go over budget because of these celebs. It went over budget because the Producers were incompetent.

20. Film making is a gamble, you pay your money, you take your chances. If the market demands divias like these two. Good luck with that. What kills me is that the producers could not do any better than this with a Cussler book. It is pulp fiction, not war and peace for gods sake. If the LAT wants to bitch about cost over runs have them check out the LAUSD and their history of building schools. The Sahara sandbag is a joke compared to the public ripoff going on in the bowles of LA.

21. Must be nice to be average looking people who are provided tons of money to reconstruct their thoughts to where they made to without a doubt actually believe that they are untouchably beautiful.

Reality can't be bought. And it must truly suck to live within the perimeters of our own dillusional mind.

I feel sorry for these people at large.

23. Al and Jesse, make your next target overpaid pampered movie and sports stars...right after you get the rich rappers and gangstas too.

Enough of this garbage spewing in our society, White or Black...get em all, bring it down before Rome burns and we fiddle.

24. I am not a math wiz, but I think that $350,000 is little money compared to 130 million. It is about less than 1% of the film budget.

25. Lets adress this , Cruz need a full time hair styilst ? . Can anyone tell me why ? , or was this her "personal" styilst , and if so she sould pay out of pocket for that . Also if she is a professinal actress , pray tell me why she need's a "dialogue coach" WTF as a "professional" actress she should be able to accomplish she craft without the aid of this ? !. McConaughey also , if he need a "personal, trainer/chef" those are expences he should bare , to have the privlege to work on this film .That to me is the cost of working in the industry .
And until these prducers have the guts to deny this crap they will be stuck with it . As a bussnessman you must control your costs and if you dont the costs will consume you , If I knew this when I was approached by agents to reprsent me I would have said yes to them . this beats working for a living . Besides these two "stars" are more like B actors then alot of others .
Can anyone tell me what Oscars have either one of them won ? , or even been nominated for ?, of what blocbuster , max grossing flicks have they been in ? , I'm still wating , hope I dont die before someone comes up with one , naw I figure I still have about anothe 2000 years before either one of them wins or does a max gross film , give me a break ,LOL , two frigging clowns . But more importantley a bunch of very foolish producers , wake up and act like you care about the bottom line , be bussnessmen , care .

26. I completely agree with the first post. Penelope is not beautiful at all she has the most annoying accent and her mouth is ugly. No amount of money will ever change her looks. And I have never found that guy Mathew to be hot either. In fact i didn't even finish watching that movie Sahara.

30. This movie was put out a couple of years ago. What's the big deal!
Not current info. The big deal is?????
Point of story: don't hire expensive actors if you can't afford them!
