Matt and Penelope -- The Silence is Deafening

Matthew McConaghey and Penelope CruzAlleged superdivas Matthew McConaghey and Penelope Cruz are staying reeeeeeal quiet about an explosive report exposing the actors' high maintenance demands ... a little too quiet.

After the Los Angeles Times revealed that each star spent more than $800,000 in lavish perks to keep themselves looking tip-top on the set of the infamous box-office flop "Sahara," no one -- not the actors reps, the production companies or even Matt and Penelope themselves -- has refuted the claims. Despite several calls throughout the day, everyone seems to be circling the wagons ... and saying nothing!

So is Matt really OK with spending nearly $200K on an entourage? Does Penelope think it's normal to blow $135K on a hairstylist? And do the production companies think that the going rate for an assistant is $114,000?

The lack of words seem to be telling the story.

32. THIS IS NOT NEWS

TMZ MUST HAVE A PERSONAL BONE TO PICK WITH SOMEONE... This movie was filmed 3-4 years ago!

Quite frankly, when I think of Matthew and Penelope, I think of how they acted as each others' beards for about a year or two. Boy, they were convincing....

33. On a film set, the hair stylist's job is to make sure the actor/actress looks consistent from shot to shot, even over a period of months. Hair color, length, style are part of the requirement. Bus so it matching the way the hair looked at the beginning of a scene and with the —days later—end of the scene. Continuity consumes a great deal of a day's energy. Clothing, make-up and hair have to match; not to mention the time of day, amount of sun, angle of light. A two minute scene might take a few days to shoot. So there is some skill involved in being a hair stylist for film. A personal trainer, alas is as useless on a film set as they are in a gym.

34. I have to wonder how many of these Hollywood types are going to offer physical or monetary support in the aftermath of the 4/16 tragedy at Virginia Tech?? What a devastating loss of young lives yet Hollywood has yet to speak. Just goes to show how self-absorbed they really are about the immediate CA world around them. Prayers for the survivors and the families & friends in the loss of loved ones & potential future leaders. God Bless & keep them all at VT!!

35. Oh I don't think its any one's business to know how they spend their money!!! If they are successful and have a healthy lifestyle who are we to complain. They are not hurting anyone or even themselves for that matter.

Celebrities are known to live a high life which is very different to the standard that most ordinary people live by but they haven't done anything illegal, they haven't behaved offensively in public, if they choose to remain quiet about what they do - then so be it. Leave them alone!!! I think both Matthew and Penelope make a cute couple if they are still a couple and I'm happy for them!!!

36. Considering that her $800,00 almost matched her salary - its pretty ridiculous. I still can't get over the report that Jenna Jamison weighs only 92lbs and is 5'7!

40. I just read over some of the lawsuit stuff from this movie - Clive Cussler is obviously deranged - and those numbers quoted here are complete peanuts compared to every other thing in the budget! Really. They could have paid Matt's hair stylist 10 times that amount and it wouldn't have mattered.

Anyway, I thought the movie was good.

41. #9 has hit it on the head. Publish all the movie budgets and money spent, you would see the same everywhere. Stars who make 20 million a movie is crazy. If I go to the movies here it cost $15.00 to get in not including if you buy anything to eat or drink. If I take my family it goes up to $30.00. I would come out cheaper to buy a projection device and screen with surround sound and buy the movie on dvd to watch it. First of all I could use it for my other movies and then I would own a copy even if it sucked like most movies do. And the quality is better at home too. No one there using a cell phone or talking during the movie. I can pause it to go to the bathroom too. Let's stop wasting our money at the theatre and just stay home maybe they would come down on the price. And it would also save gas to help solve this global warming before we all die. See we can kill two birds with one stone. (Sorry PETA for that phrase) They should only pay stars big money when the movie makes big money. It should be the same way in sports, if the athelete does not perform to standard he gets less pay. They have all priced the average family out of sporting events and now are working on the movies too.
