Matt and Penelope -- The Silence is Deafening

Matthew McConaghey and Penelope CruzAlleged superdivas Matthew McConaghey and Penelope Cruz are staying reeeeeeal quiet about an explosive report exposing the actors' high maintenance demands ... a little too quiet.

After the Los Angeles Times revealed that each star spent more than $800,000 in lavish perks to keep themselves looking tip-top on the set of the infamous box-office flop "Sahara," no one -- not the actors reps, the production companies or even Matt and Penelope themselves -- has refuted the claims. Despite several calls throughout the day, everyone seems to be circling the wagons ... and saying nothing!

So is Matt really OK with spending nearly $200K on an entourage? Does Penelope think it's normal to blow $135K on a hairstylist? And do the production companies think that the going rate for an assistant is $114,000?

The lack of words seem to be telling the story.

46. whatever #48....justify it all you want, it is ridiculous. maybe personal trainers are just as essential on the set.....matthews pecs may deflate it he doesn't keep working out with his trainer. the excess spending of hollywood is a proverbial thorn in my side. i agree with the person who said that police, teachers and firefighters should be the people making multi millions because they are our future and safety. people in this country are way too concerned with comfort and entertainment. get your priorities straight america!! i don't spend a lot of money at the theatre, and i won't because i know why ticket prices and concessions are so expensive! diva-esque demands and million dollar salaries jack up the expenses. it's a trickle-down effect, and you are the one paying!

47. Hollywood stars, premiere business execs, and sport stars are considered rare commodities, and so are paid and pampered beyond what working people enjoy.

The real question is do they add something, so premium and rare, that they actually earn what they're paid and the extra enticements they're given.

Payments to hollywood stars and sport stars are fairly closely tied to what they deliver and what money they bring-in. They're getting their share of the big pot of money. If they don't perform they start being paid less, or they disappear into oblivion.

Business execs are the biggest scammers often receiving bonuses for poor performance. If they do a crappy job, and have to lay off workers, the market rewards them by increasing the value of their stock options. There may be a big pot of money, but usually, there's more people to share in it. The execs, normally, take an unfair amount that goes beyond what they've contributed.

48. You can rent movies from the library for free or for one buck. If they don't have something they can order it for you.

51. What they spend their money on is their own business, but as far
as I'm concerned it was money well spent because it was a
fantastic movie.

54. The Hollywood game is a joke!
If I was a big celebrity, and could get away with it, I would be spending just as much on perks.
Granted, it would not be for a hairdresser.
I would have my mom and best friend put up in the ritziest hotel imaginable. Plus, I would have them both paid as my assistants!
Celebrities live in a different reality than most others.
If you do not like it, then a) stop paying to see the movies, or b) get off of your butt and become a celebrity.....

55. #14, Madonna, Angelina and Oprah have done more good in one week than your entire family will most likely do in its entire existance!

Get off of the computer and go to your local mission or food panty and volunteer. Hater...

57. my question is if you pay that much for an assistant does your assistant need an assistant ? because i would gladly do it. I am 5ft 9in. 120 lbs. 25 years 42 double D 27 one half 35. Also I thought Phen dyed her hair that clairol color natural match. You mean she does other things to it because I want to look just like her. If i could get the accent down I could be her stand in photograph me from the back. My body is better than hers. Many men have said so.....Shes too skinny and foreign looking.

59. We all know that these people get paid a huge sum of money and spend a huge sum of money. So, we ALL have the choice of either watching the movies or not watching the movies. Personally, I enjoyed the movie, it was entertaining, exactly what a movie is suppose to do. I will continue to watch movies knowing that the amount of money is huge in the movie business. What they do with their money is their business no one elses! Don't like how they spend it stop watching movies or watching sports or buying certain products or for that matter buying fuel, talk about making a huge amount of money

60. I dont care what the critics say , here or in the papers. I loved the movie, and thought it was great. It was a great story , and a great adventure film. Maybe you all should quit pretending like you are top notch movie critics , and relax a bit.
so the stars of the movie were stuck up and needy? so what! Whats so new about that. I think i one of you said the the prices of movie tickets goes up and the quality of films goes down? B/s! prices rise because of inflation and greedy corporations , not because movie stars have high demands. thats been going on since hollywood was created.
case in point ; relax and watch the movie , and have fun.
leave the reviews to the critics, who by the way , are ussually stuck up pompous a_ _'s who think that they are gods gift to the film world and that their opinions are the only opinions!
