Matt and Penelope -- The Silence is Deafening

Matthew McConaghey and Penelope CruzAlleged superdivas Matthew McConaghey and Penelope Cruz are staying reeeeeeal quiet about an explosive report exposing the actors' high maintenance demands ... a little too quiet.

After the Los Angeles Times revealed that each star spent more than $800,000 in lavish perks to keep themselves looking tip-top on the set of the infamous box-office flop "Sahara," no one -- not the actors reps, the production companies or even Matt and Penelope themselves -- has refuted the claims. Despite several calls throughout the day, everyone seems to be circling the wagons ... and saying nothing!

So is Matt really OK with spending nearly $200K on an entourage? Does Penelope think it's normal to blow $135K on a hairstylist? And do the production companies think that the going rate for an assistant is $114,000?

The lack of words seem to be telling the story.

61. This unfortunately is a two part problem, first, it’s the executives with their fresh out of college assistants that have no spine and no guts to say no and place any limits on this kind of money waist and abuse, second is the talent them selves, you would push the limit your self had you been in that situation, don’t forget what we consider a $100 bill is not the same to these folks, we really live in a different world then they do, both from reality stand point of where our country stands to where poverty stands, and how helpful a $100K could be to people in need. These actors and actresses live in a different world so we truly, as much as we would love to blame them, Can’t. it’s all the assistants and fresh out of college executives or glorified PA’s that have no bolls to tell them exactly how it is or what is right or wrong , and since they are so terrified of loosing their job they just say yes sir , and hope to keep their job. That’s the bottom line.

62. My comment is solely in response to another "opinion" offer on April 16th, 2007 by "elija" (#14).

What planet have you been vacationing on? In case you haven't noticed, a couple of the celebrities you mentioned, and I quote, ".......how often do they help. Same goes for Madonna, Angelina,Oprah....the list is endless" have been involved in various charities and philanthropic events. Oprah is known to have donated money to various colleges and universities, she has consistently raised awareness about social, economic, and heealth issues, as well as, her higly publicized opening of the Oprah Winfrey Leadership Academy For Girls in South Africa.

Angelina Jolie has also contributed a lot of her time working as an Embassador to the UN and has traveled to Cambodia, Ethiopa, and Vietnam (to name a few).

I cannot comment on Madonna's involvement in humanitarian efforts, but for you to mention Ms. Winfrey and Ms. Jolie without doing any research is an example of someone who is severly misinformed.

63. Why should I care how expensive an actor or actresses' demands are? They're not on my tab. That's up to film execs if they want to spend that kind of money on them. Now, if I were the exec. producer of the movie, I might see things differently.
