NBC -- Oh, the Humanity. Oh, the Ratings!

4/19/2007 11:42 AM PDT BY TMZ STAFF

Minutes after the vile press kit sent from the Virginia Tech killer arrived at NBC studios in New York yesterday, one sound clearly resonated through Rockefeller Center -- cha-ching!

While the network did a great job quickly putting together riveting news packages in a short time, and making sure the tapes were rushed to the FBI rather quickly -- they also did a swell job of first making copies of all the horrific contents for themselves. Then, on the same day that it was announced that NBC was getting whooped in the ratings, the blitzkrieg promotion campaign began.

After spreading the haunting, pathetic video of the killer over the course of last night's 30-minute NBC Nightly News broadcast -- and masterfully teasing even more disgusting clips every step of the way -- Brian Williams warned a shell-shocked nation that his network would do everything in its power to "prevent any more martyrs or heroes from emerging from the tragedy" -- then, in the same breath, he teased more scumbag TV on this morning's "Today Show." Dude, we get the game -- don't try to hide it.

And they wonder why they have the lowest ratings of all news stations; well, THAT will certainly continue. Giving this scum airtime is exactly what he wanted and shame on those that do it!

You want to report on something? How about reporting on those who died by the hands of this psychopath; those heroic students and professors who protected others throughout this ordeal; those who died or those who hang on to life? No, NBC just see's that as boring. . . .I didn't watch NBC before and wouldn't dream of it now.

People tuning to watch your news show for one night, is not a cash cow. After people saw what they wanted to see, they changed the channel. NBC news and MSNBC has lost all credablity.

I saw this last night and was struck by the venom coming out of him. My reaction was that here was a complete fool living in his own fantasy world (he's not of our world), totally self-absorbed, dilusional with a holier than thou attitude. What a complete idiot. Why the hell wasn't he put away (or put down as we would a mad dog) when they had the opportunity in 2005. He is clearly off his bloody rocker. I feel sorry for the people who lost their lives at the hands of this savage. He put out enough signals for people to be concerned about his behavior. Even the police were concerned, yet they did nothing. You'd think we would have learned after Columbine to look out for such individuals. Well this was a clear case of those in the know who should have made a decision about this imbecile turning their heads and saying there is nothing we can do, he hasn't committed a crime and he is protected under the First Amendment. BS! Their inaction added to this horrific tragedy. Very, very upsetting.

didn't see ANY of it as I am sticking to my BOYCOTT of MSNBC/CBS due to their aiding & abeiting the modern day lynching of the IMAN at the hands of mediamatters.org & the right reverend Sharpton & Jackson....all though I am wondering how the "scarred for life" Rutgers atheletes feel about the REAL scarring in VA......and NO IMAN to REPORT any of this carnage.....isn't it nice to be FREE? BOYCOTT MSNBC/CBS & check out mediamatters.org....they got targets on everybody's back that they find offensive...do you have your papers in order?

TMZ, you are just as guilty! If you only wanted to point out NBC's "ratings desires" why would you also post accompanying screen shot photos yourself? We didn't need to see those, if your ONLY point was to condemn NBC.

Pot calling the kettle black, I'd say!!!

Instead of commenting on this site about your disgust for NBC, why don't you all send e-mails to NBC direct? That is what I did...NBC is ran by irresponsible pigs and I stopped watching NBC months ago because I was tired of Brian Williams smug, sarcastic delivery...

WJLA (ABC) just posted this on their web site:

Effective immediately, WJLA-TV and NewsChannel 8 will discontinue broadcasting images and videotapes provided to the media by Virginia Tech mass murderer Cho Seung-Hui. The images are very disturbing to many of our viewers and we see no positive value in continuing to broadcast them. We believe this decision serves the best interests of our community. We will continue to broadcast the yearbook style photos of Cho Seung-Hui that aired prior to the images he sent to the media.

You people are so silly and bias I am happy that NBC played those videos.I get to understand the mind of a sicko. You people glorified greta and ford shelley for showing Anna nicole's private home videos why was that?.So what happen to NBC ? They are a news outlet they report the news. Looks to me everybody is trying to bring about a widespread censorship in America. They show terorist videos all the time. So what is the big deal?

If you are so offended by NBC's airing of the video, photos, and "manifesto," then why are you exploiting the same information by posting it on your site? The "ca-ching" sound rings loud in your offices, too.

Dear TMZ,
You're just as guilty as Brian Williams. You didn't need to publish the photos or the video, but you did. So get off your high horse.

And as a member of the blog-reading public, I urge you to remove all photos and videos of him. You're right. He is pathetic. But by publishing his pictures and video you're glorifying him - giving him the infamy he craves - in the name of web traffic.

Best,
Offended Reader

There isn't a damn thing wrong with NBC giving the country the exclusive video, writings and pictures that they received from that psycho. Are you telling me any other network or media outlet wouldn't have done the same exact thing?? They are reporting the news and this IS news. People want to know what motivated that freak and NBC is just sharing what he sent to them. Get over it. If it sickens you that much then turn off the TV.

NBC...he must have know your ratings were low and sent this to you..knowing you would spread it like wildfire. How disrespectful for the parents and the students at Virginia Tech to have to see and hear this killer. Fox news has pulled this and I hope you will do the same. To give this killer 5 seconds of air time was 5 seconds to much.
