"Vulgar" Richard Gere -- India's Most Wanted

Richard Gere is in even more hot vindaloo over that public kiss he planted on a Bollywood star last week.

Today, an Indian court issued a warrant for his arrest, and now Gere could face up to three months in prison for his PDA if convicted.

Judge Dinesh Gupta issued the warrants in Jaipur, according to the Press Trust of India, saying that Gere and actress Shilpa Shetty "transgressed all limits of vulgarity" during their appearance at an HIV/AIDS event, captured on tape. Judge Gupta also called the TV footage "highly sexually erotic," and slammed Shetty for not resisting Gere's "advances."

As we showed you last week, angry Indian throngs have burned Gere in effigy to protest the incident, though Shetty has defended Gere's behavior.

It's not clear what Gere plans to do in response, though he's been a frequent visitor to India to support a number of health and social causes.

Gere, through his rep, had no statement to make.

92. The poor girl was gracious, but Richard looked like he was just WAAYY too overbearing. It was pretty obvious she was embarrassed.

93. RIGHT ON # 10!!! Yeah I guess a man kissing a woman on the cheek is worse than the men beating their wives and treating them worse then animales!!! How about the fact that if a woman is even thought to have cheated on her husband, she gets a beating no matter what...even with no evidence. There are some cases where the husband lights their wife on fire or pours acid on them for that. I'm not saying that Richard Gere was totally right but come on burning effigies of him and protesting??? NICE!! REAL NICE!! I've come from that side of the world...(no I'm not Indian) and tell you what....NEVER EVER am I going back!!

95. Cat's an idiot who will pretty much cowtow to any belief other than ours. If that's the case, it's OK to treat women in India like 3rd class citizens, It's OK for husbands to murder their wife without any reprecussions or stone them if they look a man the wrong way. It's OK for muslim men to treat there women like animals in cage. In case you didn't notice, all the protesters in India were male. It all comes down to this, we all make mistakes in anothers country; however, there should be a certain amount of tolerance which we can all learn from.

96. Aw, TBA, actually it's Gere who's the idiot, acting the fool for the young lady, thinking he's the big, famous, rich American who's going to give this little Indian girl a thrill. It's sickening. He's an embarrassment to America, and no one is condoning horrific acts by men against women, but you cannot go to another country and impose your will just because it's what you think is right. As has been stated before, try that in some countries and it will get you killed.

97. Again CAT, you're a moron. This doesn't make America look bad, it makes countries like India an embassment because of the their intolerance and idiocy of a mistake that should be easily taken care of with an apology. Of course, you're one of those folks who condone the stoning of women, because it's their culture. Come down off your idiot perch and call a spade a spade.

98. I heart USA, are you really that stupid? Open-minded...you've GOT to be kidding me! The only open-minded people I've ever seen in this country are from the Northeast and California. The rest of the people in this country are just plain ignorant and uneducated--sorry to break it to you. And yes, that may be a sweeping generalization, but I think I've seen enough of the U.S. to realize that the midwest weighs the rest of this country down. I usually get offended by the racist comments half of you leave on here, but now I just feel pity for you. Oh, what it means to be uneducated! Hey, maybe if George Bush is done trying to "fix" Iraq, maybe he can make your education systems better. I don't know if it'll help you much though.

99. You sweet talker you, TBA, but you know what? It DOES make America look bad when some overblown American "STAR" charges in like some bull in a China shop, acting the fool and imposing himself on someone who probably didn't want any part of it, KNOWING it was going to get her into trouble. Certainly in the US, it's not a big deal, but to those who believe it is a big deal, it is OBVIOUSLY a big deal. I HATE that other countries do terrible things to their people, but I'm no so arrogant as to believe that I can just waltz into another country and tell them how to treat their people. Doesn't work, darlin. Try now, TBA , to focus on the subject which is not stoning people to death, but this Hollywood idiot embarrassing himself in front of the world, and, just for you--a spade is a spade.

100. TBA, you remind me of a stupid, ignorant redneck! You make me laugh so hard. Stoning of women?? C'mon now, you can't be that dumb, can you? Did you graduate from high school? Go to college? Since you're so adamant about fixing the wrongs of other cultures, why don't you go to Iraq? Just stand in front of a soldier who deserves to live and take the bullet for him-- one less idiot to worry about in this world.

101. On the video Richard did overdo the kiss. What's with him? Probably going through the change and trying to prove he's some kind of sex symbol. Chill out man! does he have a girlfriend? If not he needs one.

102. As a guest in a Buddhist country, he should know they're customs and respectfully adhere to them.

I find it odd he converted to Buddhism years ago, but lacks any type of social norm knowledge about the religion.

Appears he’s just like the rest of Hollywood; attaches himself half-heartedly to what ever is cliché and in vogue at the moment. And, appears his Buddhism convert was one such vogue moment.

103. That man was out of line. I can see how it offended some people. He
went completely overboard. She only down played it because she wants
to go Hollywood, or because she has something going on with him.Just
like some men, thinking they can do whatever they want to women.

I say cane his old, white ass!

104. India, you are being so ridiculous! India should come into the 21st Century, not the 7th. I agree with #5.

105. What is this REALLY all about...-I bet all the indignant men simply are jealous and wish THEY were up there on stage being the ones to kiss shilpa...creeps.
