Imus to CBS -- You Wanted "Irreverent," Now Pay Up!

Don Imus may get the last laugh -- because the contract he signed with CBS seems to court the very behavior that got him fired.

In Imus' multi-year contract with CBS Radio, seen by CNN's Jeffrey Toobin, the shock jock was told by his employer to be "irreverent" and "controversial. " CBS fired Imus for his "nappy-headed hos" comment. The question for a jury: Did Imus give CBS exactly what it wanted?

Imus is still owed $40 mil on the five-year deal. CBS is clearly in a bind, because not only does the contract require Imus to be "irreverent" and "controversial" but the document says those qualities are "desired by Company" and "consistent with Company rules and policies."

The fired shock jock has lawyered up with one of the country's top trial attorneys, Martin Garbus, who says that Imus plans to file a wrongful breach of contract suit against CBS.

31. Rev. Al the other night on Hannity and Colmes stated he didn't care if Imus came back on the radio and if the sponsors backed him again. He said "but we'll be watching Imus from now on". Al then stated that it was still right to fire Imus "from that job". Listening to that interview was just bizarre and it appeared this was just a power play to see if the TV stations and the sponsors would fold.

I'd say the joke's on CBS and NBC.

Go lana...

Just because we have a certain "tone" on our skin....

Just because we have a certain "texture" in our hair...

Just because we come from a certain "heritage-by-birth-place"....

Just because the human spirit refuses to be supressed...

Just because it is abhorent to judge people by their appearance...

Just because love is love, and it knows no boundry...

This is the Free World, is it not... ??? (all Imus marketing gimmicks aside) so let's be responsible for that freedom!

P.S. I'm a native american, french canadian, german irish person myself...

34. WTG, I-Man!

Fight back and come back. Your fans miss you!
You have done more for people and charities in one day than the 'twin reverends' have done in a lifetime combined.

We are behind you all the way - we support you and the Imus Ranch, too.

35. I agree with # 27. Everyone seems to forget all the $$$$ Imus has raised to help so many charities. He has raised millions of dollars to help kids and people. What have Sharpton and Jackson done????? Imus should of never been fired. Imus apologized over and over again! Don't throw stones Sharpton, cause you aren't innocent, nor is Jackson. You two are racist! I think Imus should get $80 mil for all the crap he went through. CBS get out your paycheck, you double crossed Imus. I also think Imus should sue Sharpton and Jackson. Both Sharpton and Jackson are racist. They are nothing but trouble makers when it comes to attacking anyone that is white and they think is out of line. Who do they think they are?!? CBS should pay through the nose, cause they let bullies like Sharpton and Jackson threaten them. Go Get Them Imus, you abided by your contract and CBS looked the other way instead of standing by you. CBS and it's sponsors stink!!! I'm sick of Sharpton and Jackson! They think they are so righteous! Where were Sharpton and Jackson (who owed them apologies) for the Duke boys? They were innocent and falsely accused? We don't hear them whining and carrying on about being falsely accused by a black woman. We didn't hear a peep from Sharpton or Jackson regarding this big issue. Good Luck Imus!!

38. Yes,

And damages too, cause I think you know the way they behaved (Corporate Masters) might have hurt his feelings...that is what the whole thing was about in the first place right cause somebody might have gotten their feelings hurt? What part of Shock Jock doesn't anybody get?

39. What are these "Tit for Tat" actions???? Imus was CLEARLY wrong for his actions and I don't think his apology was sincere just a mere action because he was FORCED to do so. Just because a CONTRACT calls for certain actions there's always your personal morals and standards. Imus should have been FIRED due to the fact that he NOT only Insulted those young women but also other People of other races and sex over the years and NO action were taken ENOUGH is ENOUGH and you need to be accountable for your own actions. You can't just fly off at the mouth and think it's ok because a CONTRACT says so u need to read between the GREY lines on what "Controversial" and just flat out Rudeness and racistness is!!!!!NO one wants to be associated with a RACIST and SEXIST. I feel Imus should be compensated a severance package due to early termination but most definately NOT the rest of his $40 millon contract. I'm sure CBS will find a way to win and get the last laugh!! They did the RIGHT thing when their sponsors pulled out they were left no schoice. This WHOLE thing just disgusts me!!! Place the blame where it's due and thats on IMUS!!!!

42.
ONE LAST POINT: the politically correct heroes FIRED Imus on the Eve of the Radiothon to raise money to cure CHILDREN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

NOT ONLY DID THEY NOT HONOR THE CONTRACT, but they showed NO honor for SICK kids. BOTH MSNBC and CBS issued a SUSPENSION, but they then caved to race chislers like SHARPTON and JACKSON and fired Imus in the middle of the fundraiser------------------------ MAKE THEM PAY!!!!!!!

43. #33 "OK" has nothing to do with it. If you signed a binding contract that said "be irreverent" and you are irreverent, you are fulfilling your side of the contract. They can't change their mind in midstream. And if they did change their mind, then you amend the contract FIRST! Don't fire the guy for doing what you paid him to do. Maybe CBS' legal department should have though about it a little more before he signed on the dotted line.
