Imus to CBS -- You Wanted "Irreverent," Now Pay Up!

Don Imus may get the last laugh -- because the contract he signed with CBS seems to court the very behavior that got him fired.

In Imus' multi-year contract with CBS Radio, seen by CNN's Jeffrey Toobin, the shock jock was told by his employer to be "irreverent" and "controversial. " CBS fired Imus for his "nappy-headed hos" comment. The question for a jury: Did Imus give CBS exactly what it wanted?

Imus is still owed $40 mil on the five-year deal. CBS is clearly in a bind, because not only does the contract require Imus to be "irreverent" and "controversial" but the document says those qualities are "desired by Company" and "consistent with Company rules and policies."

The fired shock jock has lawyered up with one of the country's top trial attorneys, Martin Garbus, who says that Imus plans to file a wrongful breach of contract suit against CBS.

106. First off, I am not and have never been a fan, but what was done was so out of line that I had problems understanding what was behind it...........at first. It was the color of his skin that was the real problem with what he had to say. There was a contract, a fairly new one at that, and CBS knew well the typr of program and what comes out of his mouth at times and so they were forwarned. They allowed the pair of worlds biggest bigots, who have said much worse in the past, pressure them into breaking the contract. I hope that he gets the remainder of the contract and additional damages as well. After all, we all know that older folks have a hard time finding a job when they have been fired......................................

107. I think he deserves to get his money ...but I would rather be listening to the show. No better quality news then from IMUS and his staff, insightful and entertaining ..

108. Good for you, Imus! Thrilled to hear you're suing them for the $40 mil PLUS! But the $120 mil is still NOT enough! MSNBC and CBS were idiots to cave in to useless hypocrites, like Sharpton and Jackson. (Or maybe better description would be: "Too Little/Too Late" Sharpton and Jackson. Where were they for the past 20 years, as Hip-Hop and Rap sunk deeper and deeper into the gutter? .... Making wimpering little squeals once in a blue moon - or more accurately....doing NOTHING).

Talk about spineless sycophants. Steve Capus is the jerk-off of the century. His "moral indignation" comes with dollar sign blinders. Ok to post narcissitic videos of a serial killer, no matter how offensive to devastated young victims and their families, but heaven forbid Sharpton and Jackson are offended by words they themselves use to describe their own. Please, don't insult your "viewing audience" with that incredibly transparent bs about NBC "standards." All it takes to get you to cave is a little bit of hot air from over-the-hill, out-dated old windbags, aka Sharpton and Jesse. You blew it, Capus. Hope they get rid of you soon too. You've got the judgement and the integrity of a box of rocks. Can't wait to see Imus back on the air. And PLEASE Imus DON"T go back to CBS or NBC/MSNBC! I don't watch those channels anymore. Can't take "Not In My House" Al Roker seriously. What planet does that man live on? Still thinks Queens is like Ozzie and Harriet days. Come to Brooklyn, Al. If you want to hear the n-word and h-word flowing out of the mouths of "nice," young school age black kids, talking to each other as they walk home from school, every day, many times a day .... this "nice," middle-class yuppie neighborhood is the place to be. (It "ain't Bed-Sty or E. New York; it's up-and-coming, Yuppiesville, USA).

Jeez. Where did those kids learn that language? Couldn't have been from Imus. Don't think they'd be watching that show, do you? By the way, Al Roker, where were you in the 60's and 70's, during the Civil Rights Movement? Oh, did you even know there was one?

Guess that's why "activists" like you and Ron Allen gotta make your stand now, over some silly little comment made on a morning talk show that neither of your daughters ever heard of. You missed the boat, Roker and Allen. Some people risked all for so much. You made your stand over something stupid and ridiculous. Way to go, Dragon Slayers!

111. Question is...how do people like Imus , Howard Stern and all the other irreverent loud mouth buffoons get a public forum in the first place? Has our culture become so bereft of decency that we think they are actually entertaining??

112. Management didn't seem to care when Mr. Imus was making money for them. That's what they contracted him to do, only fair they pay him for doing it. The remark was out of line, but he apologized in person. Aren't Mr. Sharpton and Mr. Jackson being racist by keeping the mistake constantly in the public eye? Imagine if were reversed. Mr. Imus would still be criticized for being a racist for picking on another race.
I wish him and the Rutgers' women well.

117. America wake-up. We are tired of being pushed around by this political correctness nonsense and in the future you will feel our disgust- it wil be in our buying power and we will not support anyone who does not want to be apart of the American main stream.
There is one if you are not aware and we are the ones who do not have time to protest because we are working hard to support our families and yours. What have sharpton & Jackson, done for anyone but themselves. and where are the rappers and hip-hop artist when it comes to charities. Imus has raised more money for sickle cell than anyone.
cbs &msnbc are cowards to cowtow to those hypocritical charlatans. I will never watch these channels again. And I will not buy any products that pulled the sponsorship.
Go Imus.

118. When the TV was originally designed, it had a unique feature designed right into it, in which the person watching was able to change channels if they didn't like what they were watching. Why on Gods green earth, do I have to be penalized for idiots not smart enought to change the channels? I am sick of all this political correctness. If those of you who are so smart spent as much time learning about our government as you do reading about the damm sports scores, this country would not be in the mess it is in. Get over your damn double standards and get Don Imus and his Group back where they belong. Don, how about talking to Rupert Murdock. You belong on a network that is fair and balanced.

119. I hope Don Imus gets every penny he is asking for and I also hope that he comes back to the airwaves/ television soon. He is the only broadcaster who told us the truth and he did so much good for many charities . I support www.imusranchfoods.com by purchasing items each month to help kids with cancer. And I miss Imus with all my heart.
