Victim's Husband Sues Brandy Over Fatal Crash

BrandyTMZ has obtained a lawsuit filed by the husband of the woman killed in a car crash involving former "America's Got Talent" judge Brandy Norwood. It's the second lawsuit the singer is facing regarding the accident.

In the documents, filed today in Los Angeles County Superior Court, Marquane Hdidou claims that Brandy and another motorist named Mallory Ham were "recklessly and carelessly ... traveling too fast for conditions and "following too closely" on the 405 Freeway, which factored into the collision that killed his wife, Awatef Aboudihaj on December 30.

As a result of his wife's death, Hdidou claims in the lawsuit that he has, "forever been deprived the support and maintenance, services, guidance, companionship, comfort, affection, solace, moral support, society, care, love, consortium and other benefits" from his wife.

Hdidou is suing for an undisclosed amount of financial relief to cover medical and funeral expenses, as well as legal costs and other damages.

Brandy is also facing a $50 million lawsuit filed by the victim's parents.

Reps for Brandy had no comment.

31. #14 you are totally right and a very smart person. Dito to what you said!

32. She should be in JAIL for vehicular manslaughter. The victims must have been non-white. The cops in LA don't care when the victim is non-white.

This man has every right to sue for 50 million. It has to be this much money, so this careless, spoiled brat doesn't ever do this again.

33. Brandy should be held accountable for the accident she caused by tailing too close behind another vehicle. And EVERYONE on this post is guilty of doing the same thing so get off your high ass horses! I have never in my life seen anyone follow the 3 second rule while driving in rush hour traffic in CA (there should be three seconds between you and the car in front of you if you were at a finish line).

HOWEVER, I agree with everyone on this post who have said that $50 million is excessive for the following reasons:

FIRST - that woman would have never made $50 million dollars even if she lived to be 100 years old!

SECOND - unless her parents were incapacitated paraplegics requiring 100% from other, they were not her dependents.

THIRD - it's called LIFE INSURANCE people - just bite the damn bullet and shell out the $9.99 a month for a standard policy to cover your debts when you pass (AND EVERYONE WILL DIE ONE DAY).

Brandy should cover hospital, burial, car damage and a reasonable amount to the CHILDREN to provide a standard (NOT INSANELY RICH) cost of living assistant until they are 18 just as their mother would have done had she lived. The husband should be compensated for his wife's salary for the next 3-5 years but NOT BEYOND because that allows him plenty of time to get his life together.

These people are showing their true colors by cashing in on this tragic event as though they hit the lottery. That's a damn shame!

34. If she were a nobody with standard insurance you can bet there wouldn't be these lawsuits. These people are just plain greedy. It was an accident - they happen every day. If she was drunk or on drugs then I could understand sueing her personally (still not for millions because that women would have never brought in that kind of money alive) but for something. This is what you have insurance for. The insurance company will pay the medical bills, pay for the vehicle the woman was driving and pay the family for the loss of life but thats all that should be paid, whatever her insurance limits are which I would assume are at least 100/300 or 200/500.

35. The husband must have calculated his odds and considered this better than the lottery!

37. For Christ's sake people, take a little time out to research the California Vehicle Code. Regardless of whether or not Brandy was 'under the influence' or not, rear-ending ANY car in front of you is ALWAYS the fault of the driver because it is expected that [they] must maintain a safe distance in order to be able to stop the car (in this case, based on the speed she was traveling, it would be something like TEN car lengths) when on the L.A. freeways, where speeds are commonly excessive. When it results in injury or death (as in this case) , she will most likely be charged with criminal felony vehicular manslaughter. If she 'were' under the influence, they would throw away the key because this would become an enhanced felony, regardless of her previous criminal history. [The] lawsuits that have been filed by family members in connection with this fatality are civil actions only. The state has the obligation to move forward with criminal prosecution against her, regardless. Suffice it to say, this "mishap" will permanently end Brandy's career. Remember, O.J. was acquitted of criminal first degree murder charges with special circumstances, but nonetheless he subsequently was found guilty in a civil action that resulted in a judgement against him of of over $30M. Because it was only a civil matter, the Plaintiffs don't have a chance in hell in collecting a dime.

38. This is ridiculous. Yes, she should pay the family but i think if this is was truly about principle and not money why the parents, husband are suing seperatly? who is next to sue her sister, her brother , her kids, unborns sons, best friends, her estate?????????
They should have been only one lawsuit and her husband and kids would have share 50 millions.

39. Sounds like a lot of money to sue for.
They sound greedy to me. It is sad they lost a family member, but would they even have a lawsuit if Brandy made $30K a year?

Posted at 7:31PM on May 3rd 2007 by Gia

40. Sure, $50 million is a lot of money. If someone came to you and said, "I'll give you $50 million dollars in exchange for the life of the person you love more than anything in the world," how many of you would say "sure, why not?" Brandy was the cause of the accident. Brandy is still alive. That fact alone would make me sue her for everything I possibly could if my loved one were the fatality in the accident Brandy caused. If I'm hurting over the loss of my loved one, damn straight I'm going to do everything possible to make the person responsible hurt as much as I possibly can. And that pretty much means hurting them in the wallet. As for the amount - what lawyer doesn't start out with totally unbelievably large amounts. They know they won't get that much - but they should get what the person responsible can reasonably bear. I don't give a rat's ass if the person responsible is rich and famous or poor and unknown. I would totally go after as much as possible because that's the only recourse I would have. Forgive and forget is great in theory, but in real life my forgiveness is going to come at a price. I don't care if the family gives the money to charity or goes on an around the world cruise, they're still the ones who have suffered a permanent loss. Brandy can go on and make more money - those kids will never have the mother God gave them.

41. PARIS HILTON IS A FLAKE, SHE WILL NEVER DO TIME FOR DUI BECAUSE HER DADDY HAS BUCKS. THE NORMAL POOR SLOB WOULD HAVE BEEN LOCKED UP THAT NIGHT. HE WOULD HAVE BEEN DRIVEN TO THE SLAMMER THAT NIGHT

42. BRANDY HAD CAR INSURANCE AND THE MONEY WILL COME FROM THERE. THIS WHOLE STORY IS SO SAD. THINGS WILL WORK OUT WITH LOTS OF PRAYER, GOOD LUCK AND STAY STRONG GIRL.

43. This case is a fraud. He should get what her insurance pays just as a normal person. Just because it's Brandy (who is worth more money than most people know), means a wrongefull death lawsuit. She is a personal friend of my niece and she is a very good person. You have never heard about her out partying and doing anything bad. Why? Because she is really a good girl. She was a member of my church when she was a little. South Side Church of Christ in Los Angeles. She has a wonderful family and my heart goes out to her because she is distraught about the death of wife and mother and she will never forget about what happened. When all is said…it was an accident.

I'm glad he finally filed the lawsuit. Her parents have not right since she was married and they have children

44. Compared to Britney Spears, Brandy is Mother Theresa!

She appears to be totally unaffected by her celebrity and comes across as gentle, sweet, sincere.....just plain nice. What happened was an accident. We ALL exceed the posted limits! She had an accident. That doesn't make her a bad person.

The guy who is suing her....he has the right to do so. That doesn't make him a bad person either. The bottom line is that the system is working.

45. "recklessly and carelessly ... traveling too fast for conditions and "following too closely"
If this resulted in me loosing my spouse or child I would do the same thing regardless of who done it! No amount of money will make this "ok" with him but he deserves to have something to relieve any other added stress in his life, even if it is financial stress. He has enough on his plate because of her actions, it is the least she can do.
