Elliot Mintz No Longer on Paris Patrol

Just two days after a judge sentenced her to 45 days in jail for violating her probation, Paris Hilton's longtime publicist Elliot Mintz has announced he is no longer representing the heiress. In court Friday, Paris claimed that it was Elliot who had mistakenly assured her she was able to drive, even though she had a suspended license. The judge, however, didn't buy her claim, and sent her to the slammer.

TMZ contacted Mintz Sunday evening, who issued the following statement:

The day after the hearing, I sent an e-mail expressing my sadness over the ruling of the judge and the irrational sentence he imposed. In that e-mail I also offered my sincerest apology for any misunderstanding she received from me regarding the terms of her probation. To the extent that I have miscommunicated information I received from her attorneys......I am deeply and profoundly sorry. I told her that I assume personal responsibility for my part in this matter. I believe when stated in court that she believed it was o.k. for her to drive under certain circumstances she was being absolutely truthful. Due to this misunderstanding, I am no longer representing Paris. For the record, I have nothing but love and respect for Paris and her family. Paris is a wonderful person and does not deserve the punishment that was handed down by the court. I only wish her my best.

16. Give me a break!
It's called personal responsibility. The everyday person does not need a team of lawyers and a publicist to interpret a suspended license. She did the crime, so if she was too busy or too above finding out for herself what she can and can't do legally, then she has no one to blame but herself.
Could you imagine if everyday Mr. Joe Bluecollar pleaded "misinformed by my publicist"?
Driving drunk kills innocent people. There is never an excuse for it, EVER. If you can afford a team of high placed lackeys to read those big words for you, then you can also afford to call a cab (or text a limo)!

17. Its unfortunate that Paris had to let Elliot go. I hope he got paid big bucks to put up with all her crap. Originally I felt bad for Paris having to go to jail, but after firing Ellitot, I hope she doesnt appear at the sentencing and gets 90 days. Blaming other people is not the way to take responsibility for your actions. Her license was SUSPENDED. Does she not understand what that means?

Paris believes the sentence was "unwarranted". Well I hate to brake it to you Paris but DUI's are a major offense. I would rather pay my tax money to put people who risk other peoples lives in danger in jail for a little bit so they can learn a lesson and get a taste of reality. Money only can get you so far.

22. when she stated that this punishment is "cruel and unwarranted" i think she's confused. if any average person had been ticketed for a DUI, pulled over for driving with a suspended license, and also not following the terms of his/her probation, they'd have an equal (if not worse) punishment. i'm tired of reading/hearing how these people think that just because they have money, they're above the law. yes, the jails are overcrowded, but she should still have to serve her sentence. it's not a waste of tax money for her to serve her time. instead, wouldn't it be a greater waste of tax money to have to clean up the road after she drives drunk again and kills someone?
perhaps it's my midwestern thinking that determines my stance on the subject, or maybe it's my job as a social worker, but i think that by even hinting that she may get her sentence greatly reduced only furthers the ideas that these people have that they're above the law and that they can really do no wrong.

23. Listen carefully:
Paris is gonna walk.
These days, there are no judges left with a moral conscience-he'll get paid off and take it.
Even if she does go to jail, it wasnt because she deserved it, it's because she's a celebrity and the judge is already biased.
This whole Paris thing is not a national tradgedy and therefore does not need step by step attention. There's a war going on people!
When the Lord comes to claim His people, and ya'll are left standing there waiting in line for hell, then maybe ya'll will think then that you should have spent more time reading and studying your bible instead of this crap!

24. She can blame her publicist all she wants for her still driving but the fact is she still violated her probation by not attending the alcohol education program that was part of her probation.

25. What kind of IDIOT thinks that it's okay to drive with a suspended license?

She got just what she deserved

26. Who mislead her about attending the alcohol ed program? The tooth fairy? Or maybe it was Tinkerbell.

28. Minz is clearly out of touch with the rest of the world, in my opinion. (Well, he is in Hollyweird) He said he thought young people did not identify with politicians and looked to celebrities to represent them. He's totally lost it. Is there something in the water in Hollyweird? Maybe it's time ol' Elliot hung up his spurs. (Oh...and Paris' legal problems were not his fault. Be grateful that you're outta there, dude. Your email was far more gracious than mine would have been - peace.)
