*NSYNC *NCOURT Over Song

Justin Timberlake, Lance Bass and the rest of the boys from *NSYNC, along with their label Jive Records, are being blasted over a hit song from the past that they allegedly ripped off -- and the dispute could cost 'em more than $10 million bucks.

In a lawsuit filed yesterday in a Las Vegas Federal Court, a musician named Troy Alexander (aka "Royal T") claims he met with Jive records in 1990 and introduced them to his demo tape of the song "Up Against the Wall." According to documents, JIVE signed *NSYNC a few years later, who then released a song "substantially similar" to Alexander's work in 2001. The song in question featured the same title and was featured on the smash album "Celebrity." The boys also performed the song on their "PopOdyssey" tour.

According to Troy's attorneys at Callister and Reynolds, the similarities are much more of a "battle of written lyrics," as opposed to sound.

A rep for Jive told TMZ that they were not aware of the claim and had not been served with any papers.

91. I agree with Thammy about it being the record companies fault.. Jive Records had it in their possession and probably gave it to whoever wrote Nsync's version and they got a green light to do so because JIVE never signed him and figured he was a nobody and would never know or couldn't do anything about it if he did. Its whoever their Artist and Development person was that more than likely gave them the song and said here do this over, Up Against The Wall! 3 people were credited for writing Nsyncs's version. That's a lot of writers for one song and to look at Nsync's lyrics..doesn't have much to it...other than Royal T's hook and some of his key lines. Troy Alexander wrote and produced his song alone and it's original, so who would the original writer be? No wonder why its a 10 million dollar lawsuit. I can see why he's pissed. I think the record company is to blame and should pay, not a good look for the Artists because now they look like thieves, they would be better off blaming the record company than denying it, that would be an even worst look and ruin their image if he wins in court, who wants to work with a thief.
