49. No, this is not JUST the newest one. Do a little bit of research. This is a dangerous cult that charges a huge amount of money to learn the basic tenets of the "religion". This is a cult that has filed more lawsuits than all legitimate religions combined. This is a cult that harasses, intimidates and sets up critics for things such as bomb threats. That forces families to "disconnect" from anyone who dares criticize its practices. Google Lisa McPherson or Elie Perkins, then tell me it's just the newest religion. Uninformed people like you are why these cults thrive.

50. #19...You're correct! Jett is austic and should have had medical treatment when he was originally diagnosed at the age of three. They have just shut him up in his room with a Sci-Church "nurse". Once they had their daughter and she was "normal" they never brought Jett out in public again. Social Services should take Jett away from them ASAP!

52. Scientology isn't much different than the whole "Heavan Gate" gang that killed themselves because of a comet coming with aliens. If a comet came early on in Scientology, they probably would of put on pairs of "Keds" (instead of Nike) and killed themselves too. The problem was no comet came and they turned into this huge powerful money making machine.

That said, cult or no cult, it's a religion (there are plent of Christian cults too), albeit, a very strange one, founded by a crappy sci-fi writer who fictionalized his entire background. So he fakes his background, but his religion is "real"..whatever..

The definately fit the definition of a cult by all standards, but what is scary (admit it), it some of Hollywoods biggest stars are involved. People laugh at Paris Hilton being a role model. I'd rather have my kid spend a summer with HER rather than Tom Cruise.

A lot of stars obviously are Scientologist and a lot of "closet" Scientologist (J-Lo, etc). TMZ wrote this article as a kind of support for Scientology because frankly, they didn't know how to handle this "kooky" story and Scientologist are known for vindictivness. Can't piss off 1/2 their subject matter now, can we. And to say Scientology doesn't brainwash is just plain crazy. And if Travolta/Cruise aren't brainwashed, I question their overall sanity.

I'd actually have a LOT more faith in the possibility that Scientology could POSSIBLY be valid...MAYBE there is something there..WHO KNOWS..(as none of us really know..all we have is our faith)..however, when the founder is a complete proven fraud..(of course they deny evidence after evidence)..well..all doubt goes out the window.

Plus, besides being a fraud, Hubbard was also a Science-FICTION writer. Scientology is just more of his fiction. He just took a "book" one step further in a way to increase personal wealth. Actually pretty smart for a little cheat.

In response to what you said, I haven't overlooked what Scientology has done so far, but the reason why I didn't mention it is because people abuse their religion all the time for their own needs. I kind of thought that it was implied. However Christianity pretty much overshadows anything that Scientology has done so far. Unfortunately, as time goes on they may try to top Christianity's past atrocities.

After watching the documentary in it's entirety I can completely understand why John Sweeney lost control, but of course the Church of Scientology won't show the absolute harrassment and stalking that the BBC crew had to deal with while in America. I could not believe that they were followed whilst driving, they were stalked while at their hotel and even eating in the restaurant. If they truly had nothing to hide, why go to those lengths. I think those of you who are having 'a go' at Mr Sweeney should watch the documentary and not just what the scientologists want you to see. You will also then see the very professional apology from Mr Sweeney.

1: Scientology has no diety ..no jesus, no GOd no nothing, so bringing up a comparison between xenu and Jesus is not valid

2: I dont know of any religions where you have to be deprogrammed or are actively ruined when you want to break ties...most people hop from church to church without consequence because humans need freedon of mind

3: I dont know of any regular religions that discourages you from making ties outside of your religious group..afraid that interaction with outsiders or WOGS will discourage your pariticipation in thier amateur pyschological games

4: I dont know if any religion that shuts itself away exclusively from world view and will not streghten their mental thinking capcacity by experiencing other writings and being confident enough in their teachings

5: I certianly dont know of any religion that you have to lied to upfront and manipulated to get in further and further, where the teachings are hidden and only shown as you progress..I can buy a bible, the Quran/Koran , and others on the market and explore fo rmyself before joining. Scientology operates in secrecy

58. I think Travolta and Cruise mistakenly somehow credit Scientology for their success.
It was perhaps a tool that (in their minds) helped them find their focus in their formative career years, but it's my firm belief that they would have found that focus on their own. They would have become and been 'clear' individuals based upon their own existant core strengths, character, ambition and intelligence, and don't give themselves enough personal credit. I think that's a shame, because personally I feel they came into their own and became stars in spite of their Scientology involvement. It has become a crutch, and the Scientology personnel have become too interwoven in their business for them to ever consider breaking free, and to disengage now would also cause a loss of face. I'd like to see what would happen if one of their big '$tars' decided to chuck Scientology.

I just finished watching Panorama and I must say John Sweeney the journalist, had the patience of a Saint,.Unfortunately he fell into the trap pf losing hi stemper with Ann Archers SOn tommy davis, who claims to be a cruise lookalike...If I were sweeney,i think I will be using my shot gun and it will be pointed at Davis right between the eyes.

I think Sweeney should file a harrasment suit againt John Davis for following him around and being a nuisnace to the point of disrupting scheduled interviews and the others should file a defamation suit against davis for bringing upo their private matters in the media\\\
