Stallone Pleads Guilty to Hormone-Import Charge

Sylvester StalloneSylvester Stallone pleaded guilty this morning in a Sydney court to bringing banned muscle-building hormones into Australia, and will be sentenced next week.

The actor didn't appear in court, but said in a letter to Sydney's Downing Center Local Court that he had "made a terrible mistake" because he was "ignorant" about local laws, according to the AP. Stallone was accused of bringing the restricted growth hormones into Oz when a customs search in February turned up 48 vials of Jintropin, a human growth hormone. Then, said a prosecutor yesterday, Stallone threw four vials of the male hormone testosterone out of his hotel room when customs officials searched it.

The maximum penalty for Stallone's offense could be 5 years in prison and $91,500 in fines, but Stallone will face up to $18,500 for each charge because his case is being heard in local (not federal) court.

Stallone's lawyer Phillip Boulten said the actor should be spared a criminal conviction, saying Stallone took the hormones for medical reasons that he did not specify.

"The defendant, Sylvester Stallone, is extremely mortified about having been involved in this incident," Boulten told the court. "Had he known that what he was doing was contrary to Australian law, he almost certainly would not have done it."

But Agius said Stallone had demonstrated a "consciousness of guilt" by throwing the testosterone from the hotel.

Boulten said Stallone was taking both substances under medical supervision.

"This is not some back-alley body builder dealing covertly with some banned substance in some sort of secret way," he said. "This was a legitimate medical condition being treated by doctors of the top ranking order in the west coast of the United States."

22. I know this was illegal and he will pay consequenses in that country. but it isnt as though he smuggled heroin or some dangerous drug like that in the country, Get off this guy, He could have done much worse. And he doesnt llok 'old' and bad . I think he looks pretty good for his age.

23. I stopped watching any of his films when he decided he was always too busy to go and entertain the troops. even back when he was popular. he knew the steroids are illegal, but like many celebs, he thinks he is above the law. I hope they nail him good, and give him the MAX
