Celebrity Justice
Paris Drops Appeal

Paris HiltonUPDATE: Paris' lawyer has now officially filed a document with the court, abandoning her appeal of the sentence. Documents to follow shortly.

Courthouse sources tell TMZ that Paris Hilton has officially decided to drop her probation violation appeal.

We're told Hilton's lawyer had planned to file an appeal at 1:30 PM today in Judge Michael Sauer's courtroom. Sauer is the one who sentenced Hilton to 45 days in jail.

But we're told this morning, celeb attorney Richard Hutton had one of his peeps phone the court and say nevermind.

What's behind all this? Yesterday, Hutton met with Paris and informed her that the Sheriff has agreed to reduce the amount of time she'll have to serve to 23 days. The Sheriff has also agreed to put her in a celebrity cell, away from the general population.

Apparently, Paris feels her lawyer has gotten her the best break she can possibly get. So the intended appeal will not materialize and Paris will do the time.

196. What a surprise Paris is getting a "Get Out of Jail Card" supplied via that Sheriff that has just become a new member of the Hilton Family of Bought Public Figures and that she's getting a free ride (no pun intented).

Boycott all things Hilton and all things Paris.....that's the only power us peons have...the power of the purse is all the Hiltons understand....

It will be interesting if by the time June 5th comes, Paris is totally free!

What a joke the justice system is in this Country. Too bad I don't think our forefathers intended it to be this way.

197. I am outraged at the way our justice system works. In every city and state the system is corrupt and in need of desperate overhaul.
If a person other that Paris had committed the same crime, they would have been serving extensive jail time. Why should she or anyone else with money be any different? Celebrity or not, you do the crime, you do the time. Point blank! But it seems as though, the almighty coveted dollar will allow you to even commit murder and walk the streets a free person. Come on lawmakers, get real about punishment for law breakers. Change the laws, so people will pay for their mistakes. When Paris kills someone, make sure you don't smack her hands too hard and break a nail. That would be a travesty!

199. I think we should start sending letters to whoever reduces her sentence. SO they get as sick of her as the general public is.
Every day so many innocent lives are lost and yet this evil, worthless dingy is alive, why, why, why???

200. Listen..when someone is told to be back in court at a certain time they are expected to be there ON TIME. If your not they usually send out a warrent to have you picked up and put in jail. First of all paris was pretty late for court and the court had to listen to her moms ranting and raving during court. Not only that they had to listen to paris put all the blame on everyone else and not take blame for her own mistakes for breaking the law and probation. Where does anyone get that she gets half off for good behavior? Where in the world? Would someone please tell me what I have missed because as far as I know and have seen and read....paris has not behaved anywhere near close to good behavior during this whole thing. As far as her being a wreck because of having to go to jail...that is what happens to everyone that is facing jail time. No big deal. Why should she be any different? Let her worry about it. She needs to worry. It just might make her understand that breaking the law does have legal actions and she is should have been made to spend the full 48 days....not 20 something. Also....since she has already gotten half off for good behavior (?)before she has even been put in jail....she better spend the whole time after she goes in. No way should she get another half off after she goes in since it has already been cut in half.

201. I am not a fan of Paris but I have been to County jail, media reports this as reduced sentence for good behavior, bottom line anytime your sentenced to County for going to serve 2 for 1, State jail is day for day, good time actually is when you go to prison and Yes I been there also, they tell inmates its called good time, but either way your going to serve two for 1, Paris isn't getting a deal shes getting standard, and for some reason people just aren't getting it, and think her sentence was cut, no jail officails knew she'd be getting out so they let everyone know it'll be after half her time is served, now if she wasn't being placed in special needs which I've been in many times, she could even have gotten out sooner and boy that would have pissed some people off more that have no idea, if you work as trusty you can serve 3-1 sometimes 4-1, but shes not eligible since she'll be in special needs unit, I don't have money yet I requested special needs only because I asked, plus anytime you mention the word " Sue " believe me if you act a fool and keep saying I'll Sue your ass jail Officials will move your ass away from GP so fast. IMO Paris actually got a rotten deal, I know many who are felons who violated their PO with over 13 vilations with a dirty UA, and where offered classes, One time I had a felony warrent and jail was so crowed, I kept trying to turn myself in and they turned me away, man I wish I could give my name so TMZ would report the real story of us real people who know Paris really got a rotten deal!

Posted at 11:14AM on May 18th 2007 by Yes you do get 2 for 1 in county

202. She's not getting special treatment at all, either way good behavior or not ask anyone who's been to county jail, you know your getting out after serving half the sentence, some people who work as trusties get out sooner, but since Paris isn't eligible because she'll be placed in special needs, it doesn't apply to her, I always requested special needs unit, and believe me I'm no millioniare. I can't believe people actually believe her sentence was reduced in half, basically jail officials are stating she'll be out after serving half, that's NORMAL. I never bought that good behavior speech, I knew I was getting out after serving half no matter what, and the worse part is Paris being placed back on Probation, if a person chooses jail, why not sit out your extended time the hell with PO thats what most people do after they've been revoked, its rare to be placed back on PO so she's actually getting a Rotten Deal, her lawyers if they had any sense would demand she be off probation, now days ppl prefer to serve their time than report and risk getting put back in jail, cause its a never ending cycle, thats why I final said hell I'll go to prison, did my time after going in circles for nearly 9 years, haven't been back to jail since.

203. Of course paris will drive drunk again in the near future. We all know her current behavior is just a fake sympathy act. What wil happen when she has a bad accident and really hurts or kills someone while driving drunk? Just write a bigger check and go on her merry way.

Posted at 9:10PM on May 18th 2007 by paris go to jail

204. Paris is NOT getting special treatment, Although they'll refer this as " good time " a person doesn't get good time that's only used if you go to prison, however in County Jail- your going to get out after you do half your time, many times they will refer it to good time, doesn't matter if I was sentenced to jail today for 30 days for probation violation, on a mis. charge. I know for a FACT - I'LL ONLY DO 15 DAYS! Therefore people know in advance you will get out after you do half the time that your sentenced for, why is this so difficult for lay people to understand? Is it because you actually believe its a race, rich poor issue, well its not - Now if she had been sentenced to State Jail, she has to do her entire time, State Jails and Federal are the only people whom do their entire sentence and even now some states are looking to give 2 for 1 in State Jails but so far its not happening, those are for felony crimes, geez.

Posted at 1:22PM on May 18th 2007 by County ALWAYS YOU'LL DO HALF

205. To: # 213 (you'll alway's do half) Why is it so difficult for us "LAY PEOPLE" to understand? IS IT BECAUSE WE BELIEVE IT'S A "RACE, RICH OR POOR ISSUE?" "NOW LOOK WHO'S GOT A "RICH OR POOR ISSUE?" APPARENTLY YOU THINK YOU'RE BETTER THEN US, LAY PEOPLE. (YOU wouldn't happen to come from a "rich or very well to do family", would you?) Let's just pray that if Paris decides to drink and drive again, because the law is giving her preferencial treatment, That she mame's or kill"s herself instead of innocent people. (Hey since YOU'RE the one who brought up the term, "LAY" people, Why don't you just go LAY down and die, in front of Paris's vehicle with her behind the wheel when she's been drinking but don't forget to leave a will asking the judge to let her off light because she's rich, you frickin' hypocritical a**hole.

Posted at 4:52PM on May 18th 2007 by From just another ignorant lay person? That would be YOU!!!

206. Just for another ignorant person, It'sTrue in County Jail all inmates will serve half of their original sentence, unless your waiting transfer to State Prison, or sentenced to State Jail, you'll serve day for day, I don't understand why all the anger among so many individuals, various people are simply stating their accounts, I'm by far not Rich, I too was allowed to turn myself in, Shoot I have no medical health insurance thats how poor I am, that's also the only time I had ever gotten a pap smear, Hiv testing, mammogram, telling someone to get in front of Paris car when its obvious they're simply explaining, granted time Paris is set to do is Nation wide, in many instances those with misdemeanors various times will serve even less due to overcrowding.

207. Honnestly, i have a lot of fun imagining this spoiled child in a jail.

A little bit more than three weeks in a jail, with, i bet, far better detention conditions than most inmates. That's not the end og the world, that *JUST* what shee needs to realize she is neither too rich neither too beautiful to be above law. That she is just another US citizen, subject to the same rules than the 300 000 000 others.

Posted at 5:56PM on May 18th 2007 by Some guy, not even american

208. First of all I never thought I'd defend Paris Hilton. I'm a black women, I've always felt Paris and her family were racist, but in this case I think its a pity so many people have no idea about why overcrowding has led to early release, including from prison, not just people with money its for everybody. I read where a few have tried to explain how system works but for some reason some of you really think Paris got a good deal then get pissed, others have tried to explain this is how it works despite how much money one has, in reality : ALL inmates doing time in County will do half the time they are given, good time does not apply for County inmates, unless you are waiting to be transferred to State Prison, but they don't tell inmates that because they want to prevent fights and so on, anyone who's waiting Prison transfer know how important good time will benefit them later, so they are on their best behavior, those who are in for a few weeks, or months all know good time is just a term used even before you go in, they want it to apply for all inmates but in reality it doesn't, misdemeanor cases are the only inmates who can get 3 for 1thats because they're the only ones who can work as a jail trusty, at times get 4-1, here's where its unfair to Paris because she has to be housed in Special Needs Unit those inmates DON'T MEET Guidelines for trusty, you have to be in GP, people who get revoked set their trust/commissary in advance so you'll have all your products you might need, like shampoo, food, cokes, candy, I rarely ate outside my cell, there's so many items to buy from commissary, even if she requires some type of facial products, hair shampoo, lotions, soap, all that's needed is a doctors order which her family can bring it, it's not like it was 20 years ago at all, why do you think people rather sit and serve their time today? As opposed to being on Probation? People who been through the system tell others, who are about to go in what all they should do beforehand, you can even have your family bring you magazines, writing materials, Paris has nothing to worry about, people are not mean its all a hype, there are inmates who will do anything for some of those who have money, they'll do their laundry, their chores, clean their rooms, just for a candy bar sometimes, in special needs unit there are some cells that have their own shower stalls in them.Paris you need to have your lawyer request you get taken off Probation, I aint ever heard of anyone, being revoked just to get released to be put back on Probation, do your time, get off PO, its the state who will lose money. So in a way yeah it's about Money, thats why they want you to stay on Probation, going to jail they lose out. I always tell people who don't think they can afford Probation fees or other fines, that in the ned you will be glad you do your time instead, get it over with, you'll be glad you did, Probation is the money scam, not doing your jail time, thats one big reason why its overcrowded, people soon learn PO is a joke, they'll do anything to keep you on it.

209. One more thing you'll be amazed what all you can have in jail today, she can use the phone as many times she wants, Prison you're allowed only on certain days, I stayed on the phone, a lot of inmates didn't want to waste their money on the phone, I also used some of the guards cell phones, why do you think so many people are angry with the legal system today, you'll read about inmates having so many options which they never had previous that is true, thats where USA dollars are being spent in Prisons, and jails, and today people really don't care about sitting out their time.

210. I agree with you guys, once you've been in the system you pick up what it takes to get out sooner, I had a felony warrant with new crime committed, I was going to get revoked, I told PO I had chicken pox, man for some reason County Jail hates when they have to spend money, having anything that requires possiblity of causing so many others to get County panics, they told my PO that I could not turn myself in, they didn't have isolation room, didn't even want me going near jail to check if I really had chicken pox, finally after I did turn myself in I have a heart murmur, its on my file ) I requested jail Doc order some heart testing anyway before I turned myself in I was having them done anyway ) well County isn't about to spend money on any procedures that will cost them a lot, they cut me loose so fast. County Jail time is easy time, sleep all day, you don't have to do a thing, its in prison where you have to work otherwise you could loose some good time. No different for Paris.
