Paris Drops Appeal

Paris HiltonUPDATE: Paris' lawyer has now officially filed a document with the court, abandoning her appeal of the sentence. Documents to follow shortly.

Courthouse sources tell TMZ that Paris Hilton has officially decided to drop her probation violation appeal.

We're told Hilton's lawyer had planned to file an appeal at 1:30 PM today in Judge Michael Sauer's courtroom. Sauer is the one who sentenced Hilton to 45 days in jail.

But we're told this morning, celeb attorney Richard Hutton had one of his peeps phone the court and say nevermind.

What's behind all this? Yesterday, Hutton met with Paris and informed her that the Sheriff has agreed to reduce the amount of time she'll have to serve to 23 days. The Sheriff has also agreed to put her in a celebrity cell, away from the general population.

Apparently, Paris feels her lawyer has gotten her the best break she can possibly get. So the intended appeal will not materialize and Paris will do the time.

46. Absolutely pathetic. She could have received 90 days but instead got 45 days BECAUSE of who she is. That should have been enough consolation right there. Another person who posted the question had hit right when they made the statement that people are awarded a reduced time in jail for good behavior, AFTER they behave well. What is this? It's absolutely rediculous.

52.
Paris' shrink, Dr Charles Sophy stated in court documents that PH is emotionall distraught and traumatized. I'm sure Paris has been prescribed some good psychotropic medications ~ Los Angeles County guarantees continuity of these medications if you were taking them prior to entering jail. Paris may be trying to get into the medical section of the county jail but I personally don't think that's too wise ~ I know people that have had their asses kicked in that part of the jail.

55. PARIS SHOULD TAKE ADVANTAGE OF AS MUCH TIME IN JAIL AS POSSIBLE. IT SEEMS THERE ARE MORE THAT HATE HER ON THE OUTSIDE OF JAIL. WHO WILL BE HER CELBRITY JAILMATE?..IT WILL BE CRUEL AND UNUSUAL PUNISHMENT TO HER CELLMATE!!!

56. As much as I detest Paris, her sentence is pretty much in line with what happens in Calif. and many other states. Even if she would have killed someone while driving under the influence, she may only have gotten 16 months... the low end of the mandatory sentencing for a misdemeanor DUI manslaughter case. Even people in prison or jail for manslaughter cases ofter get parolled after a year or so and have no driving restrictions placed on them. Pretty pathetic, but very common.

57. How can a Sheriff reduce her sentence in half, when a Judge made it very clear that she was to have 45 days ? This is ridiculous ! If they do this for her, than they should do it for everyone !! This is not fair at all !!

58. Oh please, give me a break. She made herself a "quasi" celebrity! No special treatment should be allowed at all. She should have thought about her actions..... if this is true, it is special treatment and it is disgusting.

59. "What a bunch of crap. She should go into general population. That's the only place she might learn something. She is NOT special, she just thinks she is. She should do the full 45 days too." Posted at 2:30PM on May 17th 2007 by GSDSRULES

I totally agree. It pisses me off that they even HAVE "celebrity" cells! Screw them... they break the law, they should be treated just like everyone else.

60. LIBERITY AND JUSTICE FOR ALL.

WHAT A BUNCH OF CRAP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

LIBERITY AND NO JUSTICE FOR THE POOR FOLK, RICH MURDER, DRIVE WITHOUT A LICENSE, GO THE WRONG WAY ON THE FREEWAY, USING WEED, HIT AND RUN, DRIVE DRUNK WITH AN OPEN BOTTLE GOING 80 OR 90 AND GET A FREE STAY AT THE SPA OF YOUR CHOICE, COURTESY OF THE LEAGAL SYSTEM, PURE BULL.
OUR LEGAL SYSTEM SHOULD BE INFORCED, RICH OR POOR, OUR JUDICIAL SYSTEM STINKS. PEOPLE SHOULD BE MAD ABOUT THIS. THIS DOES NOT MAKE THE JUDICAL SYSTEM LOOK GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOD, NOT AT ALL. LOOSING FAITH. NEXT TIME JURY DUTY, WON'T GO, HANG THEM ALL.
